What I miss is Fry's Electronics in Burbank, California. That was the location set up as if a flying saucer crashlanded against the entrance, and when you went in, you saw giant ants and invading aliens all over the place. It was glorious. And in the back was an old-style 50s cafe with all that entails. It looked like a mini drive-in with a theater running sci-fi classics all day, and the tables looked like old T-birds. Not the easiest to get to when you are limited to bus transportation, but it was worth it sometimes.
But Fry's is gone now, though the location still stands. For now.

The store near me had a SciFi theme with a UFO smacked into the storefront and giant ants, monsters and Gort inside. Similar to your your video, they had a snack bar with a 50’s drive-in theme, 50’s cars as eating booths and a classic SciFi movie playing on a big projection screen. Anyway we got to be in the front row to the far right. My wife just fell in love with the kitsch. She had the grilled chicken citrus salad. My daughter (a vegetarian) got the flying saucer Impossible Burger. I convinced her to try it with the portabello mushroom. She loved it. Yeah, her Dad loves mushrooms too! I just stuck with the classic American burger. We saw clips from Plan 9 From Outer Space and The Amazing Colossal Man as well as other clips. My daughter came in sporting a bit of a mood (typical 15 year old), so I started doing the typical _MST3K_ style riffing which got her laughing and in a much better mood by the time the food came. A big jukebox playing the oldies and an electric train running around the entire length of the dining area above the booths.

“Escape from Witch Mountain”. “Cat from Outer Space”. What would Walt have done with Heinlein’s young adult phase of material like “Farmer in the Sky”? Their sci-fi stuck strictly to the Earth. Not even a cartoon sci-fi. Incredibles and Buzz and that one that flopped could pass for sci-fi, but no real space fantasy.
If they acquired George Lucas’ stuff, why couldn’t they get rights to Heinlein, E. E. Doc Smith or Burroughs’ Mars work. Then again maybe now’s not the time.
To think that with all his imagination Walt never made an original outer space adventure for kids?!? Well, I guess Irwin Allen beat him to it with “Lost in Space”. Hanna-Barbera beat him with “Space Ghost” and “Herculoids”.

Of course they could do something like that with a “young adventures of Princess Leia” or Luke. Though I don’t know if they possess the suitable, family friendly sci-fi plot lines, and narrative sophistication.
Come to think of it that “Escape to Witch Mountain” was about alien kids. They could retcon a whole series based on them.

@@kallianpublico7517 More films come to mind. Tron. Flight of the Navigator. And much later, the underrated John Carter. But sci-fi under Walt's watch? Notta. Though park wise, the entire concept of EPCOT is about as sci-fi as you can get. And of course, Tomorrow Land.

@@AtomicSnackBar I still remember seeing those bus billboards for John Carter and having no idea that this was Mr. Burroughs’ John Carter. Even though “A Princess of Mars” was the very first actual novel I read when I was 11 - 13? Really good … and yes Disneyesque.. movie. A lot of killing of the murderous “natives” …but they were all cgi cartoons. Good recall “my Jeddak”!

Not that I'm aware. I've been multiple times and it's always been trailers and shorts. But special events are very possible. The first time I ever went was a Star Wars breakfast.
