I'm Korean and when his story was aired in Korea first time the majority of Korean people had bunch of positive comments of him and we should support him more in many ways.
Korea should sponsor this guy. I mean he's gifted and also Korean Champion in like two months of training... Imagine how well he would do, if he was provided healthy food and spend all his time just training. Poor guy, wish there was a way to help this guy and such a good person to help his grandmother as well even though he has no money for food himself. Much respect Guy, I hope you nothing but the best. Oh and bless the Korean man that takes care of him with food and such~ What a wonderful man.
xlongyujax I diagree. Your just saying that because his black. Its should be about skill. If he is the best for the job they will pick him if there is someone better they'll pick them
Stop making assumptions! Where in my post did I mention anything about him being black? Can you let me know? Do you know these people in person and did they tell you all this? Smh
xlongyujax Okay my bad abiut him bring black. If he is the best person they will employ him and pay him. Its a business not a chairty. There are millions of boxers each with their own story. I am sure there are millions of boxers with sad stories like him and only a few can become a national champion. Not all of them can be a happy story.
There's millions of boxers with sad stories but none of them has won a national championship title with 2 months of training. You need to learn empathy, if he gets kicked out of Korea, he will likely get killed in his country so YES i want nothing but happy ending for this guy. You must start with a positive attitude or you will surely end without one. - Carrie Latet
xlongyujax he will not be killed but maybe emprisoned he is rightfully just scared cause he does not know what awaits him if he comes back. Cameroon (my country) is not like that. i still don't understand why people are trying to got out of the country(Cameroon) by any means, alot of people do that here. Were not in war, except boko haram attacking the northern part of the country, its a nice peaceful country.

Okay I cried watching this. I don't know why but I think I could see him working so hard for what he wants and he fights to keep it alive every single day. Such an inspiration 💯 one of the reasons why I love this show is that I hear someone or other ends up helping those who feature here so am hoping he has a table & chair to eat by now. I wish this show updates on past people after show. Would really love to know . There are so many stories that personally touched me in those 120 ep. Love from India 🙏
Jhopeful __ theres weight categories on boxing champions. Lets say he stay at welterweight, thats that. Dont hv to worry about middle/heavyweight which have bigger body than him
I know that sucks but there is no way he could become a champion with the skills he has at his age... I'm a boxer myself and i dont even understand how he became a champion in korea lacking so much skills, the boxing level must be very low. I hope his situation is better now and i'm pretty sure he'll find a good job but he should keep boxing as a hobby.
I enjoyed this one: it showed how kind Koreans are and the struggle of some of those who face serious issues, and have to leave their home and seek betterment in Korea. I hope he makes it. Hes hard working and wants IT! I was heartwarming to see that he sends most of his $$ to his Granny. I like his heart. Seems like Korea would be proud to claim him as their own. This might just get more Koreans interested in boxing. If so it would be nice to see them box international.
I like Assan he's the type of person that you wish the world had more of doesn't take nothing for granted and is appreciative of everything. Assan stand up guy has not forgotten about the woman that helped rise him and the plight of his friend. Love the coach passionate and cool guy. My heart hurts soo badly for him..when I saw him eating instant foods all the time, I wanted to make him a home cooked meal myself T.T But Im glad he has alot of friends who support him and a coach that believes in him. Can't wait to see an update on his story.
Good news for Assan - he has finally been granted a refugee status in Korea! His life will be definitely better now. As a refugee you are given free housing and allowance so hopefully he no longer have to do odd jobs to survive.
Charlotte Nixon thx for the info. I really liked Assan. You can see that he is a very good and kind person. He puts others first and then himself. I'm really happy for him.
Never seen an episode quite like this one before, most guests struggle financially, or with cultural differences, but with assan he pretty much has all of these struggles plus he has to figure out how to remain in Korea and basically stay alive. There is no plan B for him. It's heart breaking how oppressed some people live in certain countries and no one bats an eye. I hope his situation becomes better, everyone deserves to live their one life happily.
i feel so sad how their whole life is surrounded with threats its so sad to see someone not leaving a liberated life when everyone was born equal ,i hope assan lives happily soon and everything gets settled down good for his friends in cameroon. wishes assan goodluck and coming comfort .

I hope he and his friend get the refuge card and have good live and mange to bring his grandmother as well because she will give him a lot of help and power . please update us with what happened to him after this.
Wow Assan story was so touching I'm so glad I watch this episode.😢 He has suffered so many hardships in Cameroon, and it's sad that he would've died if he stayed because of army not allowing him to exit after serving 11 yrs. It is true for him going to S. Korea was a blessing, he wants a better lifestyle for himself and his dream is to become a world reknown boxer even though boxing still not a popular sport in Korea yet. I was also a bit afraid how he will be perceived with his dreads, but I'm glad he washes and takes really good care of his hair and gets touch ups at shop. Assan to me is like 아프리카 사자 (Africa's Lion Warrior) especially with his hairstyle. i wish him well and hope his life becomes much better in Korea.Hwaiting Lee Heuksan!!!👌🏽
He is so innocent and you see how grateful he is for people who want to help you, i go in half and I am crying. See that he is satisfied with little, is greatest I could receive from Korea I Will pray for you from now on, assan!
what a beautiful and meaningful name, Lee Heuk San ,and how great and sweet of the coach to act as a father figure to him. Assan/Lee Heuksan, fighting! (Literally)
Eat well do well rest well Assan ...i pray for you. The boss is so good thx for taking care of him ..its so sad seeing him afraid to go back to his homeland and family ..i hope you happy in korea and make your own fam there
This story is so heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. Its such a shame that his friend will be deported but it will only make Assan works harder because he will think of all the sacrifices he and other people made and hopes to return it to them in the future. Bless you coach nim, his korean friend and the student! Wish you all the best life has to offer. Barakallah and fighting Assan!!
Assan is such a good hearted person! He sent the majority of his money to his sick grandmother. He needed that to survive but worried more about her! If everyone in the world had a heart like Assan, it would be a beautiful place! Good luck Assan! Fighting!!!!!
Respect. I was also grown up by my grandmother and I was kind of sad because of that. But this man was really in sticky situation and dont lose the hope. He is in real hard situation and send his own money for her grandmother in Camerun.
At 14:27 he says that ramyon is not healthy, but it was translated to something else. And the reason he saves it, it's because he's too tired after training to cook again.
This guy had a hard past he’s fighting to get a better day for him and his family back home. There are so many nice Koreans who are helping him , this shows such solidarity among human beings so heartwarming
when he said how if he returns to Cameroon he'll be a dead man and how he has nightmares i almost started to cry edit: and his friend not being able to extend his visa in time oh my god my heart is breaking
Ahh the life of a refugee heart breaking most of the time. You go through shit but always being told to be grateful and thankful! Sigh! Hope all works out for him in the end!

Omg good news!!! 🎉Cameroonian boxer wins refugee status in South Korea; 5 Aug 2017
Cameroonian boxer Abdoulaye Assan, better known here as Lee Heuk-san, has won refugee status in South Korea, ending a two-year legal battle to escape persecution in his African hometown.
Assan was recognized as a refugee on July 18, said the Ministry of Justice that handles refugee affairs. He has been given full-fledged freedom to work and travel at home and abroad, the ministry said.
close
Assan became the champion in Korea's super welterweight division, which was hosted by Boxing Management Korea on May 27. It only took six months to lift Assan to the top with the help of coach Thomas Lee of Art Boxing Gym.
He will have his first defense match on Aug. 5 and donate half his fight money to a middle school student suffering rickets he met through ChildFund Korea.
“I want to fight for the world title like my two favorite boxers Mayweather and Pacquiao,” Assan told The Korea Times last month.
He sought refugee status after fleeing from Cameroon’s national boxing team, which was here in October 2015 to participate in the International Military Sports Council (CISM) World Games in Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province.
Assan claimed he had been physically abused and suffered other forms of persecution. But his petition was rejected and he once faced the risk of being deported.
He raised an objection to the decision and finally made his “Korean dream” come true.
Celine Z I'm crying with happiness while reading this! 😭😭😍😍😍
OMG Im so Happy for him!! Im crying like a baby now!lol
Wow thanks for the update!
Any updates on his friend?

thanks kbs for sharing this kind of stories that show the generosity and warm of korean people. Your the best!! I hope you can suport Assan!
The way he ate half the ramyun and left the rest so he can eat it later...
That's just heartbreaking.
Even though each pack is only about 600 won , he still needs to save some for when he's hungry again. On another note, those packs have a ton of sodium. Not good for an athlete, let alone, a professional one.
So happy that he has such nice friends and a good coach to support it.
Lmao at 14:27 when he's talking about ramyon, the subs say :
- "it's very good"
-"it's also special"
-"because they don't have it in Cameroon".
He is actually saying
-"it is said that it's not healthy"
-"to eat ramyon every day"
-"it's not healthy, as it is said, i don't know"
wtf lol
apparently Koreans don't want people to Know eating rameon all the time is not healthy bc the subs are TOOO OFF lol
Exactly, but they shouldn't mistranslate like that as its misleading.
Thanks for the information!
Lol omg
Lol KBS translation is not trust worthy ramen is not healthy for sure! There are some healthier ones organic. Better to eat 냉면 잔치국수
I really hope he stays in korea 😭😭
What a genuine and hardworking guy.. God bless him

He's from Cameroon. They speak French there.
I don't get why Africa is the poster child for poverty. Literally every continent has extremely poor countries.
Lev Nenbee is french african official language? im sorry for asking bcs i know nothing abt it.
French and English are the main languages in many African countries but, others can be also found and there are many dialects too.
Memane Leonne I agree with you
Future Spoiler: he got his refugee application approved!!!
Thank you. I’m so happy for him
oh my god what's with the subtitles ??? I am french but I read the english subtitles and he's speaking french and for exemple when he said he ate ramyeon at breakfeast he never said they don't have it in Cameroun he said he heard that it's not good for his health to always eat ramyeon
Hyungwon Staring blankly at nothing face Oh my god! You're so right! I'm French too and I was thinking the exact same thing, like...what?!...really?!
omg really? i thought my french became so bad, I couldn't understand basic sentences lol but if that's the case it might not be that bad actually :D
les sous-titres c'est pas trop ça.. 😂
I said the same thing! I'm sure they did it on purpose though, I mean ramyeon is a popular food. They just didn't want to talk bad about it.
il veulent pas frustré les coréen je suppose
Honestly I love this show so much cause it shows diversity and people’s struggles in life. This story was so heartbreaking it made me cry. But that’s because I have compassion and I’m an emotional person . Assan good luck 👍👍
At 14:28 he's actually saying "c'est pas bon pour la santé" which means "it'd not good for health" not "it's very good" and also at 14:30 he says "manger le ramyun chaque jour c'est pas bon pour la santé" "eating ramyun everyday, it's not good for health" lmaoooo

you: *focused on the color of your skin as a source of supposed pride because you have nothing else that is admirable as an individual*

Marsha Dolbrice great news! Which episode did you hear about him getting his refugee card?
My heart hurts for him because of his past but also because I feel so proud and happy for him! This guy
He is so innocent and you see how grateful he is for people who want to help you, i go in half and I am crying. See that he is satisfied with little, is greatest I could receive from Korea I Will pray for you from now on, assan!
He is so kind... bless him
what a beautiful and meaningful name, Lee Heuk San ,and how great and sweet of the coach to act as a father figure to him. Assan/Lee Heuksan, fighting! (Literally)
The girl who said that he was her type in the beginning. Hahahaha giiiirrrllll. As a French speaker it actually feels nice to hear French
Always a pleasure to watch this show. Assan sounds very calm
Assan fighting..After watching I kno your condition .sad😔.Dont stop fighting.Hope for the best..💪💪💪
I wish him nothing but success honestly... He's been thorough a lot and he really deserves to be acknowledged for all of his hardwork.
Such a heart-warming story. The best of luck to you and your grandmother, Assan.
I wish his grandma could live with him :( good luck Assan!
Eat well do well rest well Assan ...i pray for you. The boss is so good thx for taking care of him ..its so sad seeing him afraid to go back to his homeland and family ..i hope you happy in korea and make your own fam there
I'm so glad for this young man and Korea I love your country. 🙏
I wish you all the best!!🙏🏼😊
I thoroughly enjoyed this video
Tearing up. You see the love of God through these ppl. It gives you hope for humanity.
Respect. I was also grown up by my grandmother and I was kind of sad because of that. But this man was really in sticky situation and dont lose the hope. He is in real hard situation and send his own money for her grandmother in Camerun.
when Assan speaks in french, dont rely on the subs, they are not accurate at all
Lan Le i thought i was the only one who noticed lol
would a native french and english speaker please contribute to translate?
Yea the subs are shit and i understand french and english fluently
김윤식씨 너무 마음씨가 곱다.. 부모님말고 먹는거 신경써주는 사람들 별로 없을텐대 ..천사의 마음인듯
he has such good circle of people around him .
At 14:27 he says that ramyon is not healthy, but it was translated to something else. And the reason he saves it, it's because he's too tired after training to cook again.
There is so much love for him there. I hope he gets the visa and wins world champ
Best of luck Assan hope your dream come to true stay humble and blessed
I hope he will successful and bring his grandma to SK and take care of her.
He is such a nice man and you can see how proud his coach is
i wish him all the best 😢
This guy had a hard past he’s fighting to get a better day for him and his family back home. There are so many nice Koreans who are helping him , this shows such solidarity among human beings so heartwarming

목숨이 보장받지 못한상태에서 저렇게 고군분투한다는것 자체가존경스럽네요 화이팅 아싼!!
I sincerely wish this guy the best and that he gets approved!!
when he said how if he returns to Cameroon he'll be a dead man and how he has nightmares i almost started to cry
edit: and his friend not being able to extend his visa in time oh my god my heart is breaking
africa can be super cruel unfortunatly
I feel like this should be a movie or a full documentary
Ahh the life of a refugee heart breaking most of the time. You go through shit but always being told to be grateful and thankful! Sigh! Hope all works out for him in the end!
It's hard for people living in different country. I hope he'll achieve what he is dreaming of. Good Luck and be healthy!
