That0therGeorge discusses his thoughts on the disappointing television miniseries: Obi-Wan Kenobi. Letterboxd - letterboxd.com... Instagram - / that0thergeorge
"But oh well, at least we got 'Andor'" Thank you for watching the recent projects analysing these 'Star Wars' TV shows - I've had a blast creating them!
What a train wreck this series was. Ewan's Obi-Wan was one of my absolute favorite characters in the entire SW cinematic universe, but they turned him into the most incomprehensible and useless Jedi to ever live. It is obvious that the episodes were not planned in advance and they sort of just made it all up during filming. I really wish GL had never sold Lucasfilm and instead had made his own spinoffs or even nothing at all. The levels of retcon here are too damn high!!! RIP on of the best IPs of modern history.
Agreed. Although I do believe he was then overpowered in that last fight. It was confusing how inconsistent he was. I would've loved to have seen what story George Lucas would have for Obi-Wan in-between ROTS and ANH.
In my opinion the show should have been more down to earth. No Vader no sith no nothing. Not even a lot of action. It should have been a spiritual drama about obi wan dealing with the ramifications of what happened. Kind of like that one clone wars arc with yoda and the wills.
Solid commentary. I think you were too kind to how bad the Reva character and storyline line was. Also this show establishes taking a lightsaber to the chest only requires a little bed rest to recover from. Maddening....
Thanks! I think Reva is a bad character, but I guess I don't feel as strongly about her because she wasn't an established character prior to the show. The lightsaber to the chest was ridiculous, but I somehow find it even more offensive in 'Ahsoka' lol.
I think you should touch on Book of Boba Fett, i feel like that show represents the worst about these Disney+ shows from the bad writing, bad world building and character writing to even the member berries.
I have no clue what happened with this series, but then they have also given us a lot of great stuff, 'Andor' being the obvious one. It's difficult knowing who exactly is to blame.
@@buffaloslamhd8380 I have actually seen that. I admire his effort with the editing, but unfortunately I don't believe it fixes the issues I have. I guess people prefer the pacing of it as a film.
as I commented elsewhere AURALNAUTS is the best starwars. they made this abortion really fun and enjoyable in their series 'larry'. I want every starwars fan to watch 'larry'!
I noticed it on a video a few years back. I really like it though, so I always set my projects to 21:9 if the original media I'm talking about is widescreen.
Thank you! For me personally, I think the way Kenobi fits into this series is the biggest issue I take with it. I'll have to check out your analysis at some point.
I feel like my eyes must be to wide open how can you like anohter prequel show knowing that at the end of the day luke doesnt matter lol ever and neither does darth vader the last 3 movies proved that with Rey Sky walker being the end result of all of this
I been hunting through youtube trying to spark a rebelion in the sci fi nerd world if we dont stream anuy of the new crap when it comes they more than likely wont make any more nad ruin stuff we like. lets work together guys.
So I watched the video and I strongly disagree with you. I enjoyed the show. I'm aware it's no Andor, but it does not ruin this character or the others in the series too. They are different from one and another each going at different points in the timeline. Obi Wan does start off with no connection to the Force and grows more connected to it as you progress. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it, but I do understand your thoughts. It's not for everyone. That's fine.

Me: *sees a Star Wars mobile game ad play during the video*
Also me (in Palpatine’s voice): Ironic
That is glorious.

I agree with you for the most part, but I do actually think the show could've featured Vader, just not in the context that they went with.

Ashoka was so much worse!
it's like she was up and around that afternoon!
14:30 Also the end of Rogue One. Also, it diminishes the significance of Yoda lifting Luke's X-wing out of the swamp in Empire.
Yep, those are good examples as well.
I think you should touch on Book of Boba Fett, i feel like that show represents the worst about these Disney+ shows from the bad writing, bad world building and character writing to even the member berries.
I think my next SW analysis will be on 'Ahsoka' but I do many to cover 'The Book of Boba Fett' one day as well.
lol and you didn’t even mention the most embarrassing chase scene in cinematic history
I would've, but I don't feel there is much to say about it outside of "that was kind of embarrassing" lol.
Could you cover the Mr Robot series? I feel the series isn't talked about as much today because of the controversial ending :-(
I might just do that one day.
disney very dumb dumb

glad i hopped off the hype train when i did tbh. at least andor was good i heard
@@mistashiba2 You should definitely check out 'Andor' - it is worth it.
You know you messed up badly when the prequels did a much better job in almost every aspect
I consider the Prequels to be quite a mixed bag overall, but you're right that they executed things much better than this series.
@@That0therGeorge you should watch the Kai Patterson edit of Obi Wan (if you can). He managed to turn a 6 episode series into a 2 hour movie

@@That0therGeorgeIt's because it was actually meant to be a film, just like The Book of Boba Fett.
AURALNAUTS is my starwars.
it's actually well written.
Good channel.
When did RUclips start allowing ultrawide aspect ratios?!

Disney StarWars: Spectacle and Nostalgia Bait with no respect to Lore or Continuity
Unfortunately, yes. Which is a shame because it is possible to balance both include the nostalgic aspects and respect the continuity.
a good analysis, I think I like yours better than the one I did. it does a better job of assessing Kenobi's place in the broader starwars timeline.
Thank you! For me personally, I think the way Kenobi fits into this series is the biggest issue I take with it.
I'll have to check out your analysis at some point.
What song is in background at 4:40?
Natalie Holt - TVA
@@That0therGeorge Thanks! It sounded Kubrick like so I was searching through his soundtracks. It sounded so familiar.
@@ogre77414 You're welcome. It's used in the title opening of 'Loki' - it was my favourite thing about that series.
