This video was entertaining but a bit lacking in analysis. Much of the video consists simply of summarizing the plot rather than explaining what makes the episode itself so brilliant. For example, a lot of this would not convince someone who had not watched the show, since it isnt super clear what you think is so good here.

I feel Jesse was absolutely corrupted, he murdered Gale, unlike Mike's son and Nacho, who were fucked whether they tried to leave or if they stayed, Jesse had many opportunities to leave, final example being when he almost set the White house on fire, only stopped by Hank, who promised him revenge against Walt, Jesse didn't have the same lows as the others, sure, but I feel he was definitely corrupted, and El Camino was his successful attempt at escaping that place in hopes of leading a better life, but make no mistake, he is a killer, and he will always be one

Amazing video, as always, but I think Mike was talking about Victor and not Nacho when referring that he had a guy, Nacho was never Mike’s guy (as in part of the daily operations), Nacho was more of a mole for Gus. Also, seeing that Victor had been killed during that same season in BB and Mike was visibly shaken when Victor died, I think he meant Victor.

Both Nacho and Jesse are complicated, fallen individuals. Jesse's mind has been ravaged by meth beyond repair. Nacho went in too deep with the cartel to get away. They both did horrible things and even their well-intended moral choices are often questionable at best. @@Josh-gp9up This is shortly after Victor is killed with a box cutter: Mike is mad because Victor is killed indirectly due to Jesse’s actions. Victor gets killed in the beginning of season 4, and then Gus has Jesse tail Mike, in order to push Walt and Jesse apart (make it easier to kill Walt and have Jesse take over). Mike wanted Nacho to get out of the drug trade: there was no way that Nacho would continue to work under Gus if he was “let free”. It doesn’t really make sense for him to refer to him as a dependable guy who he could rely on to have his back when working under Gus.

For one they had the element of surprise and blew it (not to mention ‘character notices gunman right before they fire and reacts last second’ felt like a cliche action beat I could see in a bog standard police procedural). The moment that really stuck out to me was when two whole assassins in the tunnel didn’t turn back when their guy outside the tunnel stopped responding and got taken out like bots. @danielkaiselgruber1750 2 года назад +8

Ima copy paste this here cause ive ranted about the same thing on a different vid, so enjoy my video (text?) essay
Honestly one of the only things I can say genuinely frustrates me about this series is the way that nacho got caught.
Gus hires the "best" hitmen that he can possibly get his hands on (which are probably the best hitmen in the area period) and yet they act like bumbling fucking idiots the entire time while they're trying to kill lalo, literally acting like they've never had to clear a house or anything like that ever before.
      Let me elaborate:
They shoot the young guy in the kitchen (can't remember his name now) while lalo is standing literally right there, first of all, why don't they just... yknow... keep shooting? There's obviously TWO guys there, so just shoot until they're both dead.
Second of all, you're telling me they could see clear enough into it that they could see there was a person there and shoot him perfectly center mass in what I can only assume to be the heart with how fast he died, but they can't see through the window well enough to see lalo hiding around the corner or at least see him move around it after the young dude gets shot?
Then they go into the kitchen to clear it, first of all, why are both of the guys that are going inside to clear it aiming at the same doorway?
Second of all why is the guy going around the kitchen counter like that? He had all the room in the world to clear that corner and he decides to take the tightest angle possible with a goddamn rifle like he's just asking to get stabbed or worse.
And even if he's going around the kitchen counter that way, close to the corner, why isn't his rifle pointed at the corner? That's obivously the only place in the room someone could be hiding and still be out of sight, so why's he aiming at the doorway that his buddy is already covering?
Then he finally gets the grease thrown on his face, and instead of just shooting blindly in front of him, HE DECIDES TO MAG DUMP THE FUCKING CEILING.
First of all, you don't just shoot your entire magazine in any direction just because you got hurt or even severely injured, you just don't cramp up like that.
Second of all he KNOWS where it came from, he SAW LALO BEFORE THE GREASE GOT THROWN ONTO HIM, YOU'RE A PROFESSIONAL, EVEN IF YOU CAN'T SEE JUST SHOOT IN HIS FUCKING DIRECTION, YOU'RE GONNA HIT S O M E T H I N G.
The rounds going through the wall and maybe hitting someone on the other side is also a non issue as the other room has clearly not been entered by friendlies yet anyways, and the walls are thick enough and made out of sturdy enough material to stop most any round anyways.
Disregarding even all of this let's say lalo pulls all of this off without even so much as catching a stray round from two guys emptying an entire magazine in his general zip code.
Why do they send two guys into the tunnel? Why two? It's not like if he's waiting at the end the second guy's gonna be able to do anything the first one can't already do, they're still in a tunnel barely big enough to crawl through.
Lastly (I think) the guy guarding the entrance of the tunnel.
      Come on.
      Really?
He's just casually fucking standing there, and even says something to give away that he's in there, you don't have guys maybe securing different parts of the house that are on alert? Also, for all you know there could still be more armed people around the compound, so why are you casually standing there, not even close to ready in case a threat shows itself.
I'm really sorry for the massive rant, but it infuriates me so much that a show so well written telling a story that I got so massively involved in uses some of the laziest writing I've seen to start the "death march" of an arguably main (and inarguably very beloved) character and actor.
There were 1000 ways they could've done this better, and I have to assume the episode wasn't written or directed by vince himself because he would've never let something like this slip through.

While there is a bit of cheesy moments in there, he largely uses smart tactics and surprise to pick apart his enemies without giving them a chance to fire back. Probably an unpopular opinion, but I don't feel sorry for Nacho's dad. He said: "You want me to run so you can run." or something to that effect when Nacho tried to have his dad's business purchased; Vargas Sr. knew that his son was involved in organized crime but wasn't willing to help him actually escape that world by leaving with him, he was only interested in judging him and being macho. Nacho wanted out, but he wouldn't leave his dad behind to suffer for his actions so he ended up having to kill himself because the old man refused to move. Vargas Sr. will never be informed of his son's death and will tell himself whatever he has to, to justify the moment when he could have saved his son, but didn't.
I hope Better Call Saul shows Nacho's dad at some point. So we can see how he's doing and how much he's aware of what happened. That last 'goodbye' sounded like he knew it was final.

Nacho's dad was one of the few honest people in that Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul universe. He was a bit naïve because he had such an honest nature, but they showed that under no circumstances, could he be corrupted, even when it came to his own risk and his family's risk. He always did the "lawfully right" thing, because he had faith in the institutions and wanted to believe in "real justice".
I think they drew some parallels between Mike's character and Nacho's dad. Both loved and cared for their sons well-being, but Mike's son was the "lawful good" character, while Nacho was the corrupted one. Mike convinced his son to let himself be corrupted because he feared that he would be targeted for being too "good" if he didn't corrupt himself, but in the end they killed him anyway.
Nacho tried to convince his dad to let himself be corrupted because he was afraid his dad would be targeted for not complying with the demands of the Cartel, but his dad had some foresight to see that it wouldn't make a difference and refused.
Meanwhile, he tried to convince Nacho to be lawful instead, but Nacho was too far down that road to ever get out.
In the end, both of their sons died, leaving Mike feeling forever guilty about "corrupting his son" for no reason and leaving Vargas Sr. perhaps wondering if he should have let himself be corrupted in an attempt to save his son.
However, I think the final scene shows that Vargas Sr. still firmly believed that nothing good comes out of turning to crime/corruption, that it would have always ended the same way regardless.

You’re videos on this channel are so great.
I find that many people just focus on the big violent episodes, but I’ve noticed that the less impactful ones do not at all sacrifice detail and quality. This is something that can’t be said for a lot of breaking bad (at least for me). The fact that bcs can pull this off makes me appreciate the show and crew for what they’re doing more so, which I feel is necessary due to the inability to have life or death stakes for many of the characters.

Where BCS is most amazing is that it does what NO OTHER show or movie has been able to do and that is establish life or death tension with characters you know cannot die (as the show is a prequel to events in BB). That's what I can't stand about all of these new shows like "Obi-Wan" and the upcoming "Andor" is that we know they can never die. A good example of this is when Mike and Gus had their standoff regarding Nacho. I know that neither Gus nor Mike can die, but the writers were still able to make me forget that.

    • @That0therGeorge

I agree with this, but I think it can work with a protagonist as well, as long as there is a more personal flaw instead. But you're right that an antagonist should often be OP. • @frazfrazfrazfraz
    @frazfrazfrazfraz 2 года назад

I mean it's not a problem that Lalo is that smart during the assassination attempt, I was just always annoyed at how stupid the assassins were. Like, not only do they both crawl through the escape tunnel (instead of one just moving to where it looks like the exit should be, or maybe even both of them [because, you know, the cartel would never leave traps in their escape tunnels for people pursuing them]), but they call back and get no response from their partner, and still proceed to crawl forward without looking back????
Not to mention how likely it is that they would both actually die to that blindfire. I get it, the bullets ricochet. But every ricochet bleeds the bullet's speed and energy, and the assassins are wearing what looks like high quality armor. Are you really telling me that enough bullets somehow still moving fast enough after ricocheting several times made it past both of their armor, let alone hit them both? As much as I like the show, that always seemed really dumb to me.
And if your response is, "They were incompetent men, that's why Mike wanted to choose", I get that to a certain extent. But why is Gus hiring men THIS incompetent? The reason this scene bothers me is because the show usually seems much smarter than this.
Also I just thought about it more, and it seems monumentally stupid to crawl through the tunnel. They can see that Lalo isn't in the tunnel anymore, he's already made it through, so them going through the tunnel just guarantees he gets away because they have to move at a literal crawl while he books it across the desert or drives away in a car. There is like literally no advantage to crawling through, the only reason I can think is if you somehow couldn't tell where the tunnel was going, or they thought it might lead to a safe room or something. But in that case, just send one guy through and send the others to check out the much more likely option that it's an escape tunnel. And they should probably have someone watching the outside/the roads leading out anyway, right?

Ya know, I do have to wonder though, if gus didn’t want any of the assassinarion attempt blowing back on him what so ever, why not have the assassins kill nacho right then n there when he opens the gate ?… also, lefty lalo always holding the gun with his left hand is something I don’t recall ever seeing in film or tv before lol

    • @That0therGeorge
      @That0therGeorge  2 года назад

Nacho was important for opening that gate, killing him there would've likely set off alarms. I believe the original idea for the assassination was meant to go a lot smoother than it did, Lalo clearly wasn't meant to be awake when it all went down. I'll agree that it's vague, but I wouldn't consider it a flaw or anything.
I believe he only holds it in his left when he kills Fred at travel wire, was something I noticed editing this video. Not sure why that's the case lol

@@That0therGeorge yeah ur right, not a big deal for me just something I thought of as I watching this video ..
No dude he holds it in his left hand all the time, it’s wild..he does it in the new season also

@@SayMy_User_Name Just skimmed through the scene of him against the assassins and you're actually right. But he only seems to do it for handguns. When he picks up that one guy's auto-rifle he uses his right hand to fire it, maybe it was just the awkward angle to get to the tunnel gave him no choice

The problem people have with the shootout is that all the "professional assassin" act like idiots as far as military tactics are concerned.

'the guy' was absolutely not nacho. It was Victor, the guy that gus had with Mike to do pickups. Mike is confused but doesn't question why gus killed Victor or why gus is having Jesse go with Mike

Thank you fellow George. Yep it was a mistake, I don't think it takes away from the video or even that section to be honest. Just would have been more appropriate to select a different supporting clip

i dont think Lalo was overpowered when he took out the assassins, I think the assassins were underpowered. I love the show but I think that it was a pretty shit sequence.
