    Let's be honest. The scariest part of the ride isn't the speed or the animatronic. It's the LIGHTNING STRIKE OUTTA NOWHERE.

    I remember first riding this as a teen, and then going back to Orlando and feeling conflicted because DisneySea had become my favourite theme park, edging out Epcot. LOL I also wouldn't shut up about the amazing lava monster animatronic. My wife and I recently moved to Maihama and are planning to buy yearly passports for the Tokyo Disneyland resort, once they offer them again. We can actually see Journey To The Center of The Earth and The Tower of Terror from our bedroom balcony. :)

    Definitely one of the greatest Disney attractions ever designed and built, and certainly my fave. An amazing experience, and the queue detail is phenomenal. I’m hoping that Soaring gives it a slightly better wait time these days, as it was alway so popular!

    ive only ridden this ride once and its easily my favorite attraction for numerous reasons like the music or the show scenes but one of my favorite factors abt this attraction is how the vehicle is used as part of the lands showcase, seeing the ride vehicles zip through the caverns and actually seeing people riding the ride just makes it feel a little more real,
    entirely inclosed attractions can be great but i think that trick has become overdone (example: pandora and star wars) the atmosphere is just different when the attraction is part of the land rather than entirely separated inside a show building i cant wait till we can travel again bc im going straight back to disneysea once we can

      I liked that you can see the ride vehicles, but I suspect a lot of potential riders get scared away by seeing them plunge into a drop of unknown size (which is actually fairly mild).

    Still my favorite ride even after Rise of the Resistance. It may be short, but the amount of detail and world building it crams into those 3 minutes is unmatched in my opinion. I don't know how they will ever top it, just considering the show building alone! Plus that launched helix and drop are surprisingly forceful! Thank you for making this video, it brought back so many great memories!

    The elevator actually takes you to the third level of the show building. You enter the queue and elevators on the second floor while the first floor (below) is all ride show and vehicle maintenance bay. The layout is probably the most well thought out and interesting of any Disney ride.

    I've ridden it! I was suuuuper lucky and came upon the entrance of the queue JUST as they were reopening after a break and I only had to wait like...15 minutes top? I hadn't looked at any video of it so the giant animatronic blew my mind and then the sudden acceleration took me by surprise and I was howling with the other passengers! It was a lot of fun!
    Mysterious Island''s other attraction is also wonderful! 20 000 Leagues Under the Sea really sells the illusion that you're underwater and it's queue is often short enough (on low attendance days anyway, like that tuesday in early December I was there) that they don't activate the Fast Pass stations for it. When I was there the wait time was 5 minutes and below. I think I went three times? (Also, Indian Jones has a Singer Rider queue and I went on that multiple times too).
    I'm hoping to go back as soon as travellers are allowed into the country. I'm looking at February 2022 as a good time to go.

  • @MartinKSmith
    @MartinKSmith 3 года назад +2

    This was the first ride I rode when I visited DisneySea back in 2018. I was there in February and it was snowing, as the car sped up and burst out the top of the mountain, I got a face full of snow, before diving back inside again.
    Due to crowds, I wasn't able to ride more than once. I managed to time things just right and get on pretty much everything I wanted to through a mix of fast pass and queuing, but I don't know if I would have gone on Journey if I hadn't been able to get into the queue as soon as the park opened. The queue for the rest of the day was ridiculous.
    The ride is great though!

    Until this day amuse me the experience that the park offers to you , the atencion to the detail, when you wait in line everything has a propuse , the music , the unique stories , and the twist to hear the caracters and the musical themes in japenesse, also the short time in line, (with the fast pass that are aviable in every ride ) . I went in 2019 in a bussy week (golden week) and I was able to enjoy all the rides , also the price for the tickets and food is cheaper than disney in USA , im from mexico, and if i go to Disney in USA 7 days I will spend more than if I go for 8 days to disney Japan for 2 days (1 day for each park ) and the rest of the days have the oportinity to visit Tokyo,Kyoto and Osaka. You will never regret go to Disney in Tokyo.

    • @Jordantmori

      It’s ‘slot car style’ because the car is given its electricity through a pole in the middle bottom of the car. There is a slit through the middle of the track where the pole goes through. Like a slot car. This technology is used on many Disney rides now, dinosaur, radiator springs racers, test track, etc

      Quite simply, the ride isn't meant to be a straight retelling of the book. It retains the basic gist of the "weird and mysterious world under a volcano" story, but had to be adapted to fit in with the rest of Mysterious Island (the land in which the ride is located). Because of this, Disney took a lot of creative liberties to essentially write their own versions of Mysterious Island, 20K Leagues, and Journey into one big interconnected story.

    Ok this ride is indeed awesome, BUT there’s one major flaw… it isn’t the most accurate to the book Journey To The Center Of The Earth.
    Every time you say Captain Nemo I go HE WASN’T IN THE BOOK! (It’s a minor pain)
    It isn’t just caves underneath but there’s a new horizon in the original book that looks very similar to the open world we live in. The core acts like the sun and gives light to this internal environment.
    However again there is only so much you can do in adapting the book to ride.
    I’ll say this the bottomless pit is accurate to my knowledge and a huge part of the book was trying not to fall down the bottomless pit.
    There’s many more flaws that can be brought over but there’s a few things they have accurate too. The final eruption has a lot of similarities to how it happened in the original book. (One difference of that is the vehicle you are on while launching out. You are in a machine while the book had a raft but I can take an inaccuracy like that.)
    Still it is cool to compare book to ride which adaptations like that don’t come often.

    • @A_A610
      @A_A610 2 года назад +1

      Disney generally doesn't like to do what they call "book reports", or straight retellings of the source material. They'll use the source material as guidance, but they'll adapt and alter the story to make it their own version while still feeling consistent with the original source(s).
      The biggest considerations here were that they had to condense a book that takes about 8+ hours to read into a 4 minute thrill ride, and incorporate the ride into a land that is based on other Verne stories that don't overlap. The solution was to chop bits and pieces of those stories together into one overarching story for the land (Nemo's base of operations), with the rides detailing his explorations of the island and sea. The ride is an adaptation in the spirit of the original book, but altered for those time and story considerations.

      @@A_A610 Fair point but it would be nice if there was more accuracies to the book.

    I love the animatronic but I honestly think the ride and park is overrated, there is much better out there. The title”best theme park in the world” is laughable

      Never been there so no way I can agree if it’s the best or not, but from pics and videos it’s certainly the nicest looking I’ve ever seen

      In terms of theming and overall experience, I do consider DisneySea the best park on the planet.

    This attraction is definatly going onto my Bucket List. As a Canadian, I grew up dreaming of going to the Disney desinations in the USA. As a sixty year old who figures he knows the truth about how the world is really run, I refuse to enter the US. I would have no problems going to Japan. Now I just need the money ha ha. Oh Canada

    The one thing that disappointed me a little (aside from it being a bit short) is that the fact that the ride visibly has a roller-coaster-like drop dissuaded my wife and daughter from riding it, so I had to go alone.
    (The drop is not that big; I suspect it's around the same size as the Splash Mountain/Tiana's drop and maybe not even as steep. But it is a drop.)
    I loved the lava monster and the elaborate steampunk theming of the queue. The part right after the lava monster in which you're blasted up the helical ramp has some strong lateral forces. It's arguably the most intense of the rides using the Disney slot-car system.
