One of the most impressive elements of this ride is the audio. The song loops from scene to scene, but blends seamlessly. This is genius songwriting married to brilliant engineering. Also, there are cleverly hidden speakers in the proximity of the characters that have isolated vocal tracks so it sounds like each animatronic is singing their part. It's not just a bunch of speakers blaring "it's a small world..." on repeat. If you watch closely in the scene where Sinbad is picking the lock of the dungeon door with a feather, the magic feather sparkles in time with the chimes in the music. It's the subtlest detail, but someone made a decision to do that and put effort and care into making sure that it synced up. It's the attention to details like that which separate the Tokyo Disney parks from the rest of the world. This is a totally underrated gem of a ride. There is rarely ever a long line and my family and I rode this continuously for almost an hour. I can't wait to go back.

As a totally blind person, I really, really appreciate details like this so much. Also the fact the thunder strikes in time with the music as well!

It is so interesting to see how the elements of the older version of the ride stay the same but the meaning of those elements where redefined into a more friendly way for example as mentioned in the video where the crew of Sinbad who where stealing the eggs of the giant bird where turned into thieves.

My trip to TDR was a game changer across the board, with every unique ride standing out and every remake rising above their American counterparts. But without a doubt this ride is the most memorable one in my mind.
I find myself humming the song (and OF COURSE it’s an Alan Menken piece) at random times. The animatronics are somehow simple looking but more fluid and natural feeling than ones meant to be more realistic. It’s like my favorite parts of Small World mixed with my favorite parts of something like Pirates. I didn’t even really get a good look at the queue because it was a walk on for me, but that just meant I could’ve ridden it 6 times in a row if I’d had time.

This is a hidden gem. We were just exploring this area of the park and found this ride, it was a 5 min walk on and it became my favorite ride of both the parks. Rode it three times, and it was the last ride I rode on our last day at Disney Sea.

For those who are planning to visit TDS to ride this impressive attraction in the near future, the ride will be temporary closed from February 13th to September 24th, probably to fix the giant animatronics that has been seen leaking oil recently.
This ride has been a fan favorite for a long time. Fans especially love the theme song written by Alan Menken, which he usually plays when having a performance in Japan.
Although the attraction used to have literally no lines at all, a few years ago, a Japanese actor, who is famously known for his deep love and knowledge of Disney, introduced the attraction as his favorite in a TV show, making the attraction grow in popularity. Now, the attraction usually has about a 5 minute wait time, which isn't a lot but it's great to see such an underated ride earning more attention.
By the way, the actor's name is Shunsuke Kazama. Some people may have heard his voice since he was the voice actor of Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh!

@@MrStGeorgeIllawarra I'm pretty sure they won't replace anything. We had a same kind of situation with the refurbishment of Pirates of the Caribbean ride at TDL. It closed on September 5th last year and reopened on April 7th. Although there were rumors about updating some scenes such as the bride auction, nothing really changed. It turned out that they were just doing a lot of repaints and replacing old parts of the building.

Chandu is my favorite cute Disney animatronic. He steals the show of every scene he's in. Whether he's tying up a pirate with a string of pearls, bouncing on the drum when they are gifted the instruments, playing on the whale's spout, hiding from the monkeys (same here, Chandu!) or sleeping on the rope where he's all tuckered out after all those adventures.

I’ve been lucky enough to have ridden both versions. I wasn’t a big fan of the original but did like the dark side. However the old Sindbad was an evil shithead!! And don’t get me started on those monkeys!! 😂 The current iteration is just gorgeous. Amazing that so much of the old setup is still there, but being able to reprogram all the animatronics makes all the positive difference. Love love love the new song and soundtrack by the genius Alan Menken. Fab video as always Dom! Greetings from Ireland.

I like that Sinbad is using the roc's feather to free the giant, the scenes seem to flow to one another better. I'm pretty sure the banans wre gifts from the monkey, not the other way around. He's collecting rewards as he goes on. Also, the map at the end of the ride includes Mysterious Island! First (and only) time I was at DisneySea it was under refurbishment :( so I'm looking forward to trying it later this year.

    Great topic and video!
I’ve only been on the first version but thank God they changed it. It was a nightmare! Tokyo Disney Seas is jaw dropping in beauty and scope, but this was the one ride that felt off to me. It was too fanciful and charming and animated to be so dark in tone. And the tone got scarier and scarier. The sets are so large and the music so loud that combined with the yelling , evil laughing of the giant and those damned shrieking 🙊 I wanted a cocktail and a cigarette for my nerves when we got off.
The pacing just didn’t allow the rider to catch a breath. And clearly this ride’s strength is in it’s lavish show. The new version is so much kinder and approachable and joyous which is apropos for this attraction. Disney Sea has plenty of thrilling “scary” rides. Now with the music and the Tiger and taming of the not realistic but still evil a** looking monkeys screaming in your face, the kids won’t be crying in their parents lap. I was there alone and I have to tell you I was looking for a lap to cry in myself!!
