It's completely normal to be disappointed on missing out on the CCG and the Playoff when everything was there for the taking. But if you can't appreciate a 10-2 season with a bowl invite to the best bowl BYU has been in since '96 then something is wrong. You shouldn't only be able to enjoy your team when they're perfect.
What if BYU won 10 games, some by luck, some by skill. What if BYU was rated n the national rating. What if BYU showed real character? What if BYU fans showed kindness and set an example for college football? OH wait, all that happened. We should celebrate the wins this year and with some upgrades in the offensive line, stronger running backs and maybe a tad bit more focus during the games and a sense of urgency, this team can be great. COngats to BYU for all the good that happened this year.
What if we had a competent OC? What if Kalani got his team ready like other HC's did? What if our coaches could recruit? What if BYU could play all 4 quarters of a game? See the logic here? To imply we have to feel content as fans because we did "better than expected" is so lame. this team EASILY could be 12-0 and headed to the playoffs and CFC. The trend here that BYU cannot close out seasons is very concerning.
@@SCrimothy , sounds like maybe you need to take over the team. It’s obvious you know more than the actual experts. BTW, I think you should get fired from your job at 7/11 because even though I know nothing at all about working at 7/11 you just don’t seem to me to be doing a good job.
Love this team!!! Gave me so much happiness this season😊 They played way beyond anyone’s expectations. It is quite obvious they are not championship material yet. They are supermen in my book flying above and beyond.
I agree with you 100%. I think Kalani is a very good coach. The recruiting is starting to pay off. I feel that they are building a really good team and will compete in the top of the Big 12 almost every year. If Jake and the defense can take another step forward, BYU may be able to compete again for the Big 12 championship next season. However, I am still undecided about Aaron Roderick. I like some of his play calls but don’t love others, so I am undecided if he should be fired. I can be persuaded either way. What I think he should do is more uptempo offense which seems to help Jake.
My outlook on this season is good things happened and will continue. Also my opinion on reasons for missing Big 12 championship is QB #1. There were times of course where retzlaff performed but too many where if the Defense didn't bail BYU out the record wouldn't have been as good. I always wanted Gerry and maybe his experience in this same season would've gotten us to where we expected this team to be after the 9-0 start. With that said I'm not crying over spilt milk because I enjoy cougar sports and am proud of the student athletes that represent the school and bring weekly excitement and joy to my life. Go Cougars 💙🤙🏼
I think BYU has a great team all around. I believe that if they can get Retzlaff to tighten up his game and keep the intereceptions down that would have been the key to even more success this year. They had an amazing year, I wouldn't be changing anything up right now.
Retzlaff biggest weakness is a low release point. Makes NFL throws on a regular basis, great leader and great feel for pocket navigating and running. He will be a fantastic return next season. Great returning talent in the backfield, though I would like for them to add a situational 6’ish 235-240 dude for power situations to take some wear off Martin. To often we had to hit the edges on 3rd and 4th and short instead of powering up the A gap. TE room has a lot of talent that didn’t play this year because of the seniors. Expect Swanson, Bowers and Erickson. WRs will be a bit less unknown. Roberts and Lassiter will be gone. Epps and Marion, Phillips, Kingston Hagen and a plethora of freshman. Expect a Wr or two out the transfer portal, wrs line up to play with an established qb. Oline and Dline is where I expect BYU to hit the transfer portal the hardest. Losing Etienne and Pay and Keim is a massive massive hit on a successful line that was turned around by TJ woods. NIL needs to focus on the trenches both sides of the ball.
It feels hollow because it was a massive missed opportunity. If they had just taken care of business at home against KU we would be competing for the Big 12 championship and the first ever 12 team college football playoff. A good season could have been a magical season.
This is my take. Should BYU be disappointed with a 10 and two season? No. Amazing success this year. Should BYU be disappointed about a massive missed opportunity and dropping the last two games of the season, not playing all 4 quarters of football? Absolutely. That’s where the MASSIVE letdown is.
Totally agree, this was a super EXCEED season. Most frustrating was how sloppy we played in the last 3 games and even more how flat we were in the Kansas, ASU and Houston games at times, not sure why there wasn't total engagement all 4 quarters in all three games given the stakes? A "what-if" question is what would have happened if we played Utah in the typical Rival Weeks time slot of last game of the year?
Yes I was a little disappointed cause they were so close in those games for a close come back. But they were 5-7 last year and were close to winning against OKST but lost that game in 2OT, preventing to becoming bowl eligible at 6-6. This year they surpassed all expectations finished 10-2 and going to a bowl game. So their in a post season game all is not lost. Their projected for the Alamo Bowl Against Colorado another BIG-12 team that they were not scheduled to play this year in conference. BYU is in a P4 Conference and in their 2nd year they won so much. Should give you optimism for the future.
And yet the advanced metric show that both units are actually pretty close. The office is not as bad as people seem to think. Well the defense isn’t as great as people seem to think. What really helped BYU this year or special team to touchdowns and then timely turnovers early in the season, which didn’t happen as much later in the season.
We will have such a better bowl game this year then we have in a very long time. The Houston win was definitely not for nothing since it put us higher in the league standings for the best bowl possible.
I think the main reason why I am so disappointed is because we were literally 2 yards short of winning in both of those losses. People keep saying I’m unrealistic for being mad after a 10 win season but I only feel this way because I believe this team is better than 10 wins! They should be in the playoff
If you haven’t noticed, BYU has been getting worse every game now and is not the same team that started the season. This almost always seems to happen in November when injuries mount and our lack of depth rears its ugly head. I’m not that sad BYU is not in the conference championship where they would likely take another loss. Give me a mediocre to good team in a bowl game with the possibility of 11 wins on the season and I’ll be happy. #byufan
2 plays??? really, how about dominate the whole game so that we do not depend on 2 plays or a last minute touchdown like we have in 3 of the games. lucky is lucky and luck runs out because luck is for losers that win games they should not win, a real team and coaching staff dominate each opponent and give it a worthwild fight every game and in every quarter. We did not play one game this season where we won every quarter. Being passive does not win.
Jake, we were a different team in the first half of the season. The bar was super low at the beginning of the season. It was raised when they played well. Then we had to lower it when we played crappy against crappy teams. I’m overall happy about the season though.
I think the frustrations out there have less to do with this season (which was great) and more to do with BYU’s historical tendency to allow glory to slip through their fingers time and time again. This century we saw - 2001 crap the bed in the final game of the season. - 2006 suffer a couple of close early season losses in what otherwise was a BCS caliber team - The Max Hall era of being allergic to hype - The 2016 best QB/RB tandem we’ve ever seen criminally underutilized in what should have been an undefeated season - 2020 allowing a team none of us had ever heard of keeping us out of the NY6 - 2021 crapping the bed vs a mediocre Boise team - and now 2024 pulling a 2001 imitation None of the above were bad on their own, but as a collection it’s incredibly disheartening while in that 25 year period we’ve watched countless inferior programs do what we couldn’t when it really counted. I still have hope for the future, but find me a more tortured fanbase than BYU when it comes to the mirage of a special season.
While I don't have a problem with BYU playing Colorado or ASU in bowl games, I prefer to see Big 12 teams play other conferences to see how they stack up. I would love to see BYU play a Big 10, ACC or even an SEC team. I think the Big 10 and ACC are unfairly overrated compared to the Big 12 this year. Regardless, I agree that BYU needs to play well and hopefully win their bowl game.
Your perspective has changed mine to an absolutely incredible season. After 9-0, 40 years after the National Championship, I started hoping 🙏 for the same manifestation....
There's no what if, they can't control the past they can only learn from it. That was a great stinking season, one of the top 3 of all time and with the toughest schedule.
FYI I just gave my $30.18 donation to the BYU Youth Programs Philanthropy to thank the BYU football team for beating the Houston Cougars and propelling Iowa State to the Big XII championship game. Thanks for the assist and good luck to the BYU Cougars, see you on the hardwood.
I’m glad to see other grateful BYU fans speaking up. It’s frustrating to see some fans acting so entitled, as if anything less than a championship is unacceptable. While we’re all disappointed with how the season ended, calling for people’s jobs after an exhilarating season that concluded with a 10-2 record is the definition of being spoiled. Let’s appreciate the journey and the success we had this year. GO COUGS! Cheehoo!!😙😝
Thanks bishop for those nice kind words. Lets excel at being ok with lucky plays and playing half a game and not a full game. By the way, it is all about making the championship. ASK the players if they could or want to play in the championship. That is what they wanted from the start. Do not make light of that goal with accepting poor performance in every game that we had.
Hi Jake, I enjoy your show. Thanks for your content. Yes, the thought of what could’ve been is disappointing, but BYU had an amazing year. Sure, they got unlucky in the Kansas game and the ball didn’t bounce their way. That’s a game they should have easily won. But I could also point to other games where they got extremely lucky and the ball did bounce their way. I think their record at 10-2 is appropriate and given the sluggish or under performing nature of their offense. They are just not a championship caliber team and they probably would’ve gotten smoked in the playoff. Two things are on my mind: 1. At 10-2 Big 12 teams are getting totally disrespected by all the ranking polls. How could Boise State be ranked ahead of Arizona State and how could UNLV be ranked right behind BYU and ahead of Colorado? Total disrespect. 2. With all the seniors that are graduating from the program, I think it’s highly unlikely BYU will have anywhere close to this type of season next year. What are your thoughts?
There's a lot of info in this comment. For some, it might be a bit difficult for some to click the like that we would all do if we like everything that's said. That being said, some of this could go both ways with some Dan's, so that may be why some are passing to like this based on the contents of the spectrum of different thoughts.
Everyone SHUT YOUR MOUTH ABOUT KALANI!!! I LOVE KALANI & BYU 4 LIFE!! There will be more opportunities!! WIN OR LOSE!!! There is the door if you don't like it!!! GOOD JOB BOY'S AND COACHES!!!!
While I agree Kalani should stay it is not good to tell someone they should shut their mouth. People need to vent sometimes and they also may have some valid points. Try to have tolerance and patience with others. Emotions can cause the best of us to say stupid stuff😊
What an idiot. Exactly why BYU doesn't reach elite level - complacent fans. Acceptance of mediocrity. No fire or killer instinct. Just like the head coach. Focus on love over winning. Boo.
Some fans seem to look at only BYU’s advantages and not the unique challenges, so they just can’t even begin to appreciate how expertly Sitake navigates those headwinds. He’s literally outperformed at every level, and BYU’s just getting more resources for him to work with. Sitake is a flat out amazing coach, and he gets BYU like no other coach out there.
Jake, can you do a way-too-early preview of who is expected to return from this team next year and why seeing those players coming back to build on this season’s success gets you excited? Also, could you preview which holes will need to be plugged after some much respected talent moves on? Finally, next season can we get one of those end-of-3rd-quarter flame thrower guys to hold the flame under A-Rod anytime BYU is behind but not running the offense up-tempo?
As frustrating as that first half of the ASU game and the late interception were, the killer was Kansas. And you can’t really look at the pooch punt in a vacuum. BYU wasted so many opportunities in that game. At some point you’d expect a playoff team to take charge and pull away in a game like that. So fair is fair. We’re still miles and miles better than where we’d though we’d be preseason, and I’m sure that success translates to recruiting wins and donors stepping up. I like BYU’s current trajectory. You can’t say the same for Utah, who lost most of their Pac 12 mojo, will be replacing a generational coach, had their recruiting pipelines interrupted and now face serious questions about NIL competitiveness.
BYU fans shouldn't want Colorado in a bowl game. The false narrative within the committee and within the national media is that the Big 12 sucks. So facing Colorado is a no win situation. You either lose and everyone says "see BYU isn't good just like we thought" OR you win and everyone says "they beat another bad Big 12 team who cares". Tom Holmoe should be seeking an SEC or Big 10 opponent. If he can't get that the Pop Tarts Bowl against SMU/Miami/Clemson is a decent option.
I agree. Phenomenal year and it was a lot of fun. However our offense still has lots of work and maybe that’s a new OC I think ARod tries to hard and when his top lineup is out due to injury it almost feels like he losses his ability to call good plays. Some kind of change in the offense is needed to build on the changes from last year. Maybe just a scheme change or something idk. And we don’t want CU in a bowl game, give us the SEC or Big10 they need to be exposed and BYU could do that. Go Cougs!
So what if BYU goes 12-0? 1984 was all about keeping BYU out of a National Championship until it became undeniable. It's still the same when it comes to BYU now. They just have to win and will get no love by polls/committees, etc. That's a given. I'm hoping for a Colorado/BYU matchup in a bowl game this year. Thanks for a good season BYU. Thanks Jake for your coverage.
BYU just needs to build a brand by winning consistently which leads to more primetime games, higher tv ratings, better recruit rankings, better preseason rankings, and a few years of that 10-2 is a shoo-in for playoffs
I don’t want to play Colorado that actually hurts the league, as one teams final ranking won’t make up for the other teams loss in ranking. BYU vs Miami is the way to go.
go to the game anyway and boo every play or make one of those uniforms that is half one team and half the other team and cheer the whole game, get a pennant to wave that says SUN DEVILS on one side and CYCLONES on the other. Get a big foam finger for each team.
I remember several instances when BYU fans wanted Lavell Edwards fired due to his performance. I wonder how many BYU football fans would feel the same way now!
Anyone disappointed with this season is likely to be even more disappointed next year. This is an amazing year that’s not likely to happen again anytime soon. I completely agree Jake.
I don't do what ifs. Jake made huge strides in decision making. He still has huge strides to make in consistency. If he can improve in that category, next year can be even better.
Hey Jake….I’m acknowledging the fact that BYU beat the odds of winning out big on their projected season. Congratulations on a 10-2 season. My gripe is it just doesn’t feel that way. Whether it be missing out on the BIG12 championship or CFP it just feels hollow like you said. Yeah those 2 losses were daggers but there were wins that didn’t feel like wins and the offense didn’t keep the pedal to the metal or didn’t show up in the first half of a few games. Not sure if this was a coaching flaw or the team was just slow in getting out of the gate. Many things learned here this season. My take is that if you wanna play with big boys in the BIG12 you better take advantage of every minute of the game to win. I just don’t think they did that. Slow starts and some offensive play calling blunders resulted in those two losses. What if what if but not this year. Let’s finish up the season with a big W at the Alamo Bowl! Go Cougs!
This was a great season. The reason the playoffs are not going to happen is because when the chips were down, the offense sucked. No one else to blame.
Jake, I think you’re awesome and I totally respect your positive attitude with your comments in this episode. However, although a 10 and 2 record is impressive, you need to keep in mind that when you get to the level of 9-0 those with the real championship mentality will separate themselves to a higher or a lower level… UNFORTUNATELY, BYU has an outrageously terrible “play caller”on offense. AROD COMPLETELY THREW A WRENCH IN A PERFECT RECORD AND IT’S OBVIOUS TO MOST FANS. THE DISAPPOINTMENT IS NOT WITH THE PLAYERS, IT’S WITH AARON RODERICK. The players quite literally did everything they were asked to do but Arod did not let them get into any sort of a rhythm for the past four games. The “WHAT IF” falls on Arod and actually Kalani Sitake for not putting the stop to it. Completely wasting first and second down. It started four games ago with AROD. For all that holy, please bring in an outsider and get this guy gone and give the players and fans what they deserve.
I love Kalani Sitaki and certainly do not advocate that he be fired. However, why does BYU always play poorly at the end of the season? I'm not convinced that ARod is a good offensive coordinator.
No we do not need to move on from Kalani Sitake or Arod. But it is disappointing because we played better in the first half of the season and stopped playing at OSU. We thought we were going to the CCG and the playoffs and had an easy rest of the season. I think the team was thinking of that instead of the current games and got complacent. We played clean in the first half of the season and the rest penalties all over the place. We also beat pretty good teams early on and then lose to Kansas? And barely scrape by against a horrible Utah team? Come on. Why can’t we take care of business throughout the whole season (especially when it matters most) and in each game?? I’m not mad that we went 10-2 but I am disappointed that we lost 2 games we should have won. I’m disappointed that we barely scraped by at the end of the season against crappy teams and lost to Kansas. I’m a little ok with the ASU loss.
Many are struggling with the “what if” of going to the college playoffs. The way the team was playing, they would have continued to struggle on offence and would have been outplayed by bigger and better teams. Might they have won the Big XII championship? Perhaps, but I think they would have lost in the first playoff game.
Could Boise State go 10-2 with BYU’s schedule? I’d think not. Too much politics even with the 12 team playoffs. You’ll see a 3 loss sec team in there and big 12 will get one team in.
I'm proud of BYU, yeah they could've gave it a little more gas in the two games, but their doing well. We are going bowling and the program is growing. We need to keep the coaching staff except A-Rod. I feel he needs to go
Keep ARod. Too many keyboard warriors aren't giving him credit, along with the rest of the coaching staff and players for making much better progress this year than anyone expected. I believe they have a chance to build consistency next year - but the coaching staff needs to keep their foot on the gas all the time. No more playing not to lose!
@ You’re right that it could have been more, but you could say that about any season. With the other close games this year we could have easily been 7-5 with a loss to Utah. I’ll take 10-2 with a win at Utah any year.
Why the hate and disappointment? Nothing hurts. Nothing stings. BYU ran out of gas. The way they sputtered down the stretch, they would have been crushed in the conference championship and weren't close to playoff competitiveness. I'm glad they didn't go. They will go to a middle bowl where they might actually have a chance to win. What might have been? An embarrassing crushing based on how they decelerated into the end of the season. Here's my take. They beat Utah. It was a great season!
So you'd be happy with a middle size Bowl game every year. Climbing to the top of the mountain isn't important? Just be mediocre? Live life, but don't do your best? Striving for the Celestial Kingdom or not?
@@DaranTibbetts10721 That's just a poor reply. I've said nothing about the future. This year far exceeded expectations from a year ago. I choose to be happy. Now they had a great season. Expectations for next year are going to be clearly higher. Let's see what shakes out in the transfer portal, etc. I also don't understand your celestial kingdom remark. Mosiah 2-5 clearly indicates that those who acknowledge being less than the dust of the earth, wretched souls and unprofitable servants are who inherit eternal lives. Those who strive to earn it will be on the outside looking in. Matthew 7:21-23, "I never knew you."
Jake, you yourself said that there was a "re-framing" of expectations when BYU was 7-0, 8-0, 9-0. So based on the the re-framing of expectations, BYU absolutely fell flat on their face with the new expectations. Last 4 games: 2-2 with a terrible game against Utah, loss to Kansas, loss to ASU, and a very ugly win to Houston... Yes, if you look at the whole season and where BYU started, 100% they overperformed. My other question- BYU is losing a lot of really good talent. Do you think BYU is in a position to win 10 games next year? I don't think so...but I love to be proved wrong by BYU.
Jake, what evidence do you have that the BYU coaching staff will have the team motivated for the bowl game? They didn’t against Kansas, they didn’t against Arizona State, what evidence do you have that BYU will be ready, prepared and hyped for a bowl game? BYU beat Houston because Houston is that bad of a team.
It wasn't a missed opportunity the barely won Utah and Oklahoma state. Settle down cougs, their luck run out, eventually the ball doesn't bounce your way when you are in close games alot. And they wouldn't have gone far in the cfp. You play the games to know how good you are. No missed opportunities here.
Yeah there's a lot of what ifs the stupid mistakes don't get you into a championship tournament. The way they're playing right now in the first game in the playoffs they would get thrashed.
No!!! Kalani has developed a personality that plays out on the field, EVERY YEAR. Look at the first five or six games each season compared to the last 5or 6 games. His teams records to close seasons out has been terrible. This is more than just a couple poor games. Something absolutely HAS TO BE DONE!!
I reject your ultra successful season argument. The “reframing” as you put it, changed everything. Further BYU could have easily been 7-5 last year. BYU was a better but ill prepared team last year. I’m actually concerned that this season is going to lead to a worse non inspired play next year. Sure it was a winning season, but, in truth how is a 10-2, 9-3 or 8-4 any different? We go bowling no matter what. In fact, has this 10-2 season improved our recruiting? Not so far as we can measurably see. BYU fans would view things better at 8-4 then 10-2. One shows incremental growth, the other shows the utter incompetence of the coaching staff to prepare the players in the most important games of the season.
Another disappointment is that BYU needs to perfect to get into the CFP. Sure being in a P4 conference is great, but the Big 12 is not getting any respect. The SEC and Big 10 will continually get multiple bids. Even the ACC is more likely to get a 2nd bid. The loser of the Big 12 title game is not going to the CFP. It's almost like being in the MWC or AAC provides the same CFP path
Jake, assume the naysayers are right, and they lose the bowl game, doesn’t that shine a light on a problem in the program? You can’t solve a problem until you can identify there is a problem. I’d love nothing more then for BYU to win, however, as it’s basically a meaningless game, I’d rather BYU’s “ills” are exposed so you can solve the problems. We need to improve season to season. I want to see the core problem exposed during the bowl game so that we improve next year.
It's their own stupid fault for hiring a rec league OC and now that there is a 12 team playoff that is the prize anything else is a waste of time and if I was a senior NFL prospect I would be sitting out all bowl game it's playoffs or bust there is no such thing as a good bowl game now
They totally blew it, the two losses they had they should have won, absolutely stupid mistakes. So I have no empathy for them right now. They're lucky they beat Houston they almost gave it that one away too.
BYU’s non seniors played less then inspired ball on Saturday. It’s more than a disappointment, and the issue was our offense. Something needs to change. You don’t want to blame ARod, ok then who? Sure the players didn’t execute but also the play calling is to blame. So, what’s the solution? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again. So let’s stop talking about who not to blame and who not to fire, and start holding folks accountability. And that starts from the head coach on down. Let’s run the hypothetical and say no discussion of holding Sitake responsible, let’s at least acknowledge that his “love Utah” speech is not one that motivates the aggressiveness needed in football. If you want to support the human merits of that speech, then bring in a coach who motivates to have the killer instinct and destroy now mentality. These aspects are missing in Sitake teams. Something needs to be done.
I have always said that Retzlaff is the weak link! While he is fun to watch, he is not the quality QB that BYU usually has! BYU should have been in the BIG 12 championship game! The DEFENSE is the reason BYU has had such a good season! The offensive line, running backs and receivers are great but the QB has been the problem!
I think the disappointment would not be so great if BYU had lost the two games early and then went on a win streak to end the season. I am sure there would be a lot more fans that thought the season was a success. I think they would also be looked at more highly in the national eye. It is funny how the whole perspective changes. I guess it is true, if you are going to lose, lose early. Oh well, there is always next year.
Again you miss and contiue to miss the big point in all of this, The "what ifs" should not be looked at, We should have burned the Kansas and beat ASU, But like all of the games in the past 3 years, WE FAILED TO DOMINATE THE OTHER TEAMS THRU 4 QUARTERS---------WHY----- because we hired a OC --- AROD back from him working for the Utes and failed to learn what they learned is that we are inconsistant ALWAYS in the RED ZONE. The UTES fired AROD as their Co-OC because of just that, INconsistant in the RED ZONE. WHY you and other BYU announcers fail to ask AROD and Sitake the TOUGH QUESTIONS about the inconsistancy of BYU Football when the whole national scene sees through the FAKE look that BYU has. We cannot be dependant on winning the games we should easily win. We do not dominate the score all 4 quarters, we do not win by 20 or more each game, WE barely pass through each game with a last minute win, WE do not play with KILLER instincts. Sitake and AROD do not do anything but protect each others with the same excuse " we need to learn from our mistakes" Bull Crap. They do not learn. WHERE is the running Game???? Which team will show up to the game, The Byu that wins or the one that barely makes one score a Half. BYU does not deserve to be called special and winning when they did not make a bowl game last year and all of sudden think they deserve accolades for ONE season?????? We are as bad as the UTES thinking they were going to dominate the BIG 12, UTAH TEAMS are here to disappoint. I have been watching BYU Football since Gifford Neilson. I miss the 2 back swing pass of old and the 40 something scores. Where is that BYU, oh it died with Lavelle. YOU have gotten caught up with your own hype and was on the verge of bragging to the other LOCK in podcasters about BYU being great. EAT CROW and a lot of food on your boat trip. Get some sun on you and learn to think outside the PROVO VALLEY WHINERS. BYU WILL DESERVE PRAISE WHEN IT CAN DOMINATE 3 OR MORE YEARS IN A ROW NOT JUST ONE YEAR EVERY 4. IT WILL DESERVE PRAISE WHEN THEY CAN FIGHT HARD AND WIN HARD AND PLAY LIKE A GREAT TEAM ----- ALL 4 QUARTERS OF A GAME----!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIRE AROD NOW. THE UTES DID, BYU NEEDS TO DIP INTO THEIR SALARY BASE AND HIRE SOMEONE WORTH MORE THAN 500K A YEAR FOR STUPID RED ZONE PLAY CALLS AND NONE PREP WORK FOR EACH GAME.

TAD bit more focus, how about a lot more focused to play ALL 4 quarters not just 2.

It was a great season of year two in the Big 12. The priority now is to retain Jay Hill, recruit, and hit the portal for replacements.
If jay Hill says he’s leaving BYU has to offer him the HC job. The program would roll so far down hill. This defense turn around was crazy!
Kalani isn’t the issue.
I’m mixed on A-Rod.
Hill is a godsend.
They are also a few yards from being 7-5. We can argue they are much worse than a 10 win season too and lucky to make a bowl game.
@@zedalvea841it wouldn’t sting as bad if it was a 7-5 season.
This century we saw
- 2001 crap the bed in the final game of the season.
- 2006 suffer a couple of close early season losses in what otherwise was a BCS caliber team
- The Max Hall era of being allergic to hype
- The 2016 best QB/RB tandem we’ve ever seen criminally underutilized in what should have been an undefeated season
- 2020 allowing a team none of us had ever heard of keeping us out of the NY6
- 2021 crapping the bed vs a mediocre Boise team
- and now 2024 pulling a 2001 imitation
None of the above were bad on their own, but as a collection it’s incredibly disheartening while in that 25 year period we’ve watched countless inferior programs do what we couldn’t when it really counted.
Disappointed in way season ended absolutely. So are players and coaches, but not a disappointing season
This was t a disappointing season at all. It was an epic season, with a disappointing ending. There’s a difference
I just hope they give us Ole Miss or Miami for the bowl game
Hi Jake, I enjoy your show. Thanks for your content. Yes, the thought of what could’ve been is disappointing, but BYU had an amazing year.
Sure, they got unlucky in the Kansas game and the ball didn’t bounce their way. That’s a game they should have easily won. But I could also point to other games where they got extremely lucky and the ball did bounce their way. I think their record at 10-2 is appropriate and given the sluggish or under performing nature of their offense. They are just not a championship caliber team and they probably would’ve gotten smoked in the playoff.
Two things are on my mind:
Bloody Tongan🤣
@@aBrewster29 Well said, Kilani is where he's supposed to be. Kilani for Life @ BYU.
Rent free
Go Cougs!
Well said, I think most BYU fans agree.
1984 wasn’t undeniable… BYUs Natty year, they were undefeated in the WAC and an unranked Michigan team lol
@ too late. You can’t take it back. They won the national championship then.
@ that’s valid. But it would be entertaining.
I was planning on going to the CCG, but I'm going to hang out with some friends in Texas instead. I'm still very happy with our 10-2 season.
go to the game anyway and boo every play or make one of those uniforms that is half one team and half the other team and cheer the whole game, get a pennant to wave that says SUN DEVILS on one side and CYCLONES on the other. Get a big foam finger for each team.
@jbrock8596 Haha that would be fun
The players will have to keep working hard. The expectation will be Evan higher in 2025. They gave us a great year. Thank you Cougs
The change came with Hill. If coach Hill was head coach we wouldn’t have lost the 2 games this season.
I completely agree Jake.
hope to keep Jay Hill the difference he has made is incredible
I don't do what ifs. Jake made huge strides in decision making. He still has huge strides to make in consistency. If he can improve in that category, next year can be even better.
Hey Jake….I’m acknowledging the fact that BYU beat the odds of winning out big on their projected
season.
I think Kalani should stick around, but I am open to the option of a new OC.
When did they stop giving away BYU football tickets at the stake center?
Never happened
@@kathleenhaddow7199 no way!?😲
Jake, I think you’re awesome and I totally respect your positive attitude with your comments in this episode.
How come garry didn’t walk with the seniors after the game?
How do we keep jay hill??????
I feel he needs to go
It has been said before in the comments. Each of the losses were possible wins only lost by self inflicted wounds. I enjoyed the season but….see above
Keep ARod. Too many keyboard warriors aren't giving him credit, along with the rest of the coaching staff and players for making much better progress this year than anyone expected. I believe they have a chance to build consistency next year - but the coaching staff needs to keep their foot on the gas all the time. No more playing not to lose!
The only thing I’d add to your comments is that we beat Utah. Any season we beat the Utes is a successful one.
Maybe, but not this one, it could have been even more.
@ You’re right that it could have been more, but you could say that about any season. With the other close games this year we could have easily been 7-5 with a loss to Utah. I’ll take 10-2 with a win at Utah any year.
Wanted 1984 but It was 1985 all over again hahaha
If you keep living in the past, your BF will never marry you, dude. Move on.
@jkemp6791 I called it months ago get over it it is 1985 again hahahahaha
@@ReisterJP - Again, the fact that you live 40 years in the past is probably even sadder than it seems. I feel bad for your Bf, dude.
@jkemp6791 the fact you don't understand parallels is sad. Stop the inbreeding your sister/wife and you should not breed.
@@ReisterJP - Is 1985 when you came out to your friends parents? Is that why you’re so obsessed with that year?
BYU could go 12-0 but I’m sorry we not beating some of them top dogs we are not even close to competing with them imo
I’m sorry but who ever is upset with a 10-2 record an a win over Utah. Yall need help an should seek that help as soon as possible
My money is on them laying an egg. But I'll eat my words if they win.
Our offense stinks. Plain & simple.
Wish yall lost to Houston so we could avenge you guys against ASU🤦🏽♂️
.. if a frog had wings it would not bump it's rump on the lily pads.
BYU would schedule FCS teams if they could hell maybe even hs corner canyon. Go undefeated and think they’re gods gift to the world.
I reject your ultra successful season argument. The “reframing” as you put it, changed everything. Further BYU could have easily been 7-5 last year. BYU was a better but ill prepared team last year. One shows incremental growth, the other shows the utter incompetence of the coaching staff to prepare the players in the most important games of the season.
