this i think is actually the best way. When u replace the up pipe portion, it doesn't have the rigidity from that extra mounting point to the cooler and you actually end up breaking the other bellows. then you go a leak. Doing it this way leaves the extra support from the cooler being mounted.
Did you happen to have a programmer to delete the egr for the check engine light? Also, have you noticed any performance enhancements since deleting the egr?
Landon Horn no tuner, I just let the engine light shine. I have not noticed any performance enhancements. We will see how it effects mpg. I did the delete more so for the longevity of the engine. It keeps the cylinder walls from washing and keeps the intake from coking with carbon.
@TorqueMonsters I was under the impression that mine was deleted whenever I bought it. And was even told it was welded shut so it looked stock. I checked on my programmer to see if the egr was turn off and it wasn’t and my check engine light wasn’t on and have never had a code for it so clearly I’ve got to get it done. It’s going in the shop Friday and I’m getting 12.5 mpg so I’m hoping that’s my issue. Will update after a few days of driving!
Looks like you where able to remove the intake manifold without removing the FICM. Most videos i've seen remove the FICM and the radiator coolant bottle. How difficult is the job? Want to do the same on my 6.0L

I would do it same way. It looks original style and ist's 100% fixed. No one can see it and you can usw this method nearly for every diesel.
Dude next time your going that deep you should do the oil cooler, studs and stc fitting.
And Oring the heads....

You should pull oil cooler while you are there if it's bad you are right there to change it.
Most of the time you should really look at the oil pump with a bore scope while in that far too

I use an old android phone and torque pro $5 app to clear the check engine light
Will engine light go on if I weld ends if egr and leave valve plugged in??
It shouldn’t, and if it does just clear the code, nothing to worry about. Mainly only newer diesels you have to worry about that

I just worked on one of these for the first time. Just take it all off. I tried doing it with ficm in, not happening.
Need better lighting under the hood, hard for us to see
