      It’s a shame to see that much trash especially to see fishing gear and packaging because most fishermen I know would never leave their trash around like that and always clean up after themselves. I know a lot of trash washes up on the shoreline in those spots you can tell the trash was left there and it didn’t wash up.

      @CavyFishing  4 месяца назад +7

      Yeah bro sucks hard! Cavy thank you for caring. Picking up the trash and commenting on it highlights how bad some fisherman can be. I understand some of this trash could be from recent storms and washing out, but surely there have been other people fishing there who have seen the trash and just walk by. I grew up in cub scouts and bought scouts and one thing that has stuck with me was always leave a place better than your found it. Pack out what you pack in and more is always a must for me. of bridges and docks around retaining walls to catch sheep heads on the salt flats shrimp and those small crabs work the best for hard head cat fish and sale catfish use cut mullet or sailors chose panfish from dock and bridges

    As you learned, land access to good saltwater fishing spots is difficult to find here in Florida. Especially without local knowledge. Most publicly accessible spots are well known and crowded, and are usually piers and bridges. If you like wading the flats and fishing the mangroves, it's all about finding an access point. Once you're in the water, it's all public because in 95% of cases you don't own the saltwater (does not apply to federal property, they can own the water).

    When you're in the Keys, one of my favorite places to catch tarpon is at Mallory Square in Key West at night. The wall where the cruise ships park during the day is loaded with tarpon at night, Live bait is a sure thing, but white streamer flies work as well. You can park close by and walk to the wall and there is a ton of room to explore. Bring a cast net and live bait is catchable. I usually bring a cast net with me. A sabiki rig with tiny specks of fish bites on the hooks will get some live bait as well. Slack tide you'll see more than an incoming or outgoing and the best part, no mosquitos.

      @@yadayadayada360 IMO fishermen in general need to take more pride and not only stop littering but also be part of the clean up solution. I do my part and i know many others including Keys residents who also do they're part but it's a major tourist attraction and even the guys from the tri county are somewhat responsible. I agree, We all can do better.

    Heres a joke: There's a Mexican guy named Jose. Jose takes a 30-minute ride to work every morning. One day, on his lunch break, he steps out back and realizes his commute brought him in a big circle. His backyard was just on the other side of this fence. So the next day, instead of driving 30 minutes, he decides to jump the fence. He notices a "no trespassing" sign on the fence, but he decides to jump it anyway. He goes to work. At the end of the day, he goes back to the gate and jumps over again. He's greeted by a policeman who says, "Didn't you see the sign that says 'No Trespassing'?" He says, "It's okay sënor, I only passed Dos!"

    If you want to catch big stuff in the keys its on a boat. I use squid and shrimp for snapper on the coast. The Keys fish are use to people throwing live or real smelling bait way too much for them to fall for plastic ones. I would have tried catching a boat to an island off the main road maybe those fish would be more susceptible to lures. The bridges are fished out mostly so I use live pilchard on a slack loose line with little weight. That might be better for the rolling tarpon. It's sad to see all the trash but in such a congested place it's hard to weed out the riff raff. Thx for the trash pickup I do it anytime i see it.

      I'd sure be careful travelling in the Mexico part, two of our surfer boys from Australia (brothers) were murdered there recently apparently for the alloy wheels on their pickup. Then a few years back some Aussie surfers sleeping in their fan were burnt alive. Dangerous place these days it would seem, was there around 30 years ago and don't remember it being that unsafe. Cavy is our Aussie fishing legend all the way back from when he Brooksy and Briggsy showed us all what land based fishing was about with the Morning Tide series.

    As soon as you got to the states or even before you should have looked up the laws, rules and regulations of fishing in the area you were in. Every state and sometimes counties have different rules. And if you see a sign that says no trespassing or government property, stay out. Then stay out. I was quite shocked in another video I watched of yours that you didn’t get a fishing license. You could have been fined and kicked out then but you got a good cop. The reason our waters are so plentiful and our fishing is good is because we have strict regulations and it’s working. I’m sorry this happened to you but I hope you took something from it so it won’t happen in the future. I hope you enjoyed your time here and I would love to see you come back. Cavdog don’t give up on Florida yet bro. I can’t speak for soflo but out west it’s difficult as to fish nearshore right now with the water temperatue so high. Once it drops to mid 70’s it gets good especially with the migrating species passing through and spawning. Hope to see you hook up with some big mackerel, red fish, trout, snook, tarpon, flounder maybe even pompano or permit. Maybe try beach jetties a bit more or some shallow wading back bays. That’s where the big snook and redfish usually are. I don’t care for piers either but there’s some wild footage of people catching king mackerel and sailfish up northwest.
