- The Huawei P50 Pocket is Huawei's newest foldable and it is a clamshell style foldable similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 3. It does some things better, it does some things worse.

I love this design, Huawei never fails to amaze when it comes to design. I'd definitely go for a Huawei phone if it was available in my country.
Huawei was very unfortunate to be caught up in the US/China pissing contest. It really set competition in the industry back a long way because Huawei is a design leader.

I'm still a fan of Huawei and they are still appealing to me but didn't buy any after the p40 pro.. I might go for a honor foldable which looks great and has the Huawei dna sort of speak. I just bought the flip 3 during a Samsung deal for just €531 which I couldn't resist! I do like the looks of the p50 fold better and probably the build/camera's for as far as I can see that is. The only thing I don't like is the small outer screen (it looks estheticly pleasing because it's the same shape as the camera) and Samsung did a better job with that on the Flip 3. Being from the UK there is to many hoops you have to jump through to make it work as a normal android phone . No 5 G , no Google apps at the price is a huge deal breaker.

I love Huawei.I am using P40 pro without GMS & i have no issues. Huawei shouldn't give up.

I'm more of a Samsung fan but honestly I love what Huawei and Oppo are doing,and the pressure they are putting on Samsung to also improve.
These 3 companies are the ones that really advance Mobile technology.
But it makes me weird to see a Huawei with a Snapdragon 😞.
It's like seeing an iPhone with a Mediatek processor from 3 - 4 years ago.
When I think of what the Kirin 9000, which is already 2 years old, is capable of doing, I kind of imagine what it would have been like if Huawei had been able to continue its Kirin.
On the other hand, I'm a little disappointed that Huawei has abandoned its 3D face unlock, and as I said 2 years ago with the P40 Pro / Mate 40 Pro, they should have centered the pill like Apple is apparently going to do on its future iPhones 14.
Instead of seeing a pill bigger than the holes in the screen of Android smartphones, people would have seen a miniaturized and revolutionary Face-iD.
But at least Huawei seems to have solved its photo-video colorimetry problems, but especially its video stabilization problem, that's the main reason why I stopped to use Huawei.
The real big problem with this smartphone is its price, it costs more than an iPhone 13 Pro and Galaxy S21 Ultra, Flip 3...
Huawei must accept that its status is no longer the same and review its pricing positioning otherwise it will be really complicated for them, the proof they have gone from number 1 in China (their home market where normally the absence of GMS should not be a problem) to not even in the top 5.

@@thetwetch2591 im not saying they can not charge whatever price level they see fit, more power to them. However, i am only speaking for myself. To me, it is not transformative or groundbreaking enough for me to want to pay the premium over a Z Flip 3.

Nice summary. Pros and cons but these still to me remain fashion rather than practical, so not my cup of tea. But if I wanted one, the P50 Pocket would be my choice as I am using Harmony OS on my Mate 20X and like it a lot, especially compared to Android 12 on my S20U which is no where near as fast and smooth, or efficient; Huawei are the best Android OEMs for battery life.

Sadly the price is also £500 too much if it had been £1000 and had Google apps as standard it would be my go to next phone
Still using my 7.2 inch Huawei mate 20 X and I can't seem to go back to a smaller screen so this 6.9 would have been amazing plus it's a flip phone

I was quite close to getting the P50 this year but skipped out due to 5G being missing. Google Map is horrible in HK and I don't use most of those G products on my current phone anyways. Hopefully, Huawei will find a way to get 5G back for their next P60.

can install via Petal Search which is Huawei’s search engine to help yuou find apps. it leads you to either official download links or APK Pure or APK Mirror

Samsung really need to work on the hinge and sort out that crease. This Clam shell from Huawei is more of a fashion phone. The price is just wow.

It's a nice phone hopefully things change and you get them in the USA making Samsung and put them more opening up the market to the future.

Looks nice. Pretty much just like a Samsung with a bodykit.
To be honest I think this blows away the Samsung Z flip to hold these both hands on and this one is sooo sleek but better suited for ladies to be honest with the design but if they made a pro version better for guys would be awesome

Unfortunately the official price here in Italy is 1.599€.... much more than the 1.200€ you said. Maybe it's because you just convert the Chinese price in euros. But usually we have always an overpricing! Interesting phone tho. i just feel so so about 5g lack.
The 1599€ is for the premium model. The white model which is currently not available will go for 1200€

Closing completely flat is a bad design due to any little piece of hard dust will dent it.
Flip 3 has a better sized cover screen.

No 5G is not a deal breaker at all. There's 5G in London, but I can't see any improvement in speed. 4G is fine.
Agree, and in fact with people now jumping on 5G in my area, my 4G speed has doubled recently (carrier upgrades as well). So 200Mbps in quiet times and that is enough for most of us.
@@andyH_England some broadband providers support their connection with 4G back up. So I'd say ignore the hype, because for now it's still usable. When my broadband is down, my 4G is still doing the business.

P50 pocket.. Not suitable for my Pocket.
At this point, the only thing Samsung does better over Huawei and many other Asain brands is software (in the case of Huawei, an advantage not, not actually better)
The worse part is the new Samsung Foldables and Flips are going to be released with almost the same battery size as the last one, the same crease as before and with the same noticeable gap in the middle and still sell hot! Interesting world. Like Smart Glasses for example, just wait for Apple's version, that's when everyone will realize that Smart Glasses are a thing.
Software wise, I wouldn't count Samsung's One UI as a plus.
The only advantage samsung has is GMS. One UI is heavy but good. Huawei's software is well optimize so it's down on your preference.
5g aint nothing big phone wise anyway... i wont mind a 4g phone an a huawei phone is T.O.P !!!
