I don't know why people and other websites like gsmarena call the front camera a selfie camera. Because for me front camera is not just for selfies it has more use than that like video calls, face unlock, face scanners, vlogging and more. Anyways I also prefer the Huawei because I don't need a secondary camera if I already have a front camera on the other screen just for video calls this time of pandemic. Before when it was still nokia era in 2005 we only call it front camera only for video calls remember the nokia N70? Way before iphone got a front camera until iphone 4 came out the first iphone to have it. Phone's front camera today is even better than the web cams of laptops which is going extinct in todays time because they are removing web cams in laptops to decrease the bezels so I can see people will use phones for video calls now than a laptop which has trash camera. Anyways I am aware that if you look at gsmarena that they also call it a selfie camera which I think is a dumb thing I think they need to change the name and just make it front camera because a lot of people might think that it is just for selfies.
I bought the Z fold 2 the day of its release and I'm still using it today and love it almost 6 months later. It's been way more durable than I could have ever expected. That said, I love the Mate X2 for two reasons, first its wide front display and subsequently bigger inner display (also the taper between the two sides. Excellent design). Second, this kind of competition only drives innovation faster which is best case scenario for us consumers. 👍🔥
Hey, 6 month user here as well, has your inside protection screen started to peel around the crease? Mine has but I push it back and it sticks for a few more days before I have to do it again. Samsung said they have no backup protection screens to sell.

I m gonna wait and see how much it holds though. As far as I noticed it is fairly durable and even deep scratches have healed by themselves almost completely which is why I m reticent to third party screen protectors but when the time comes... It comes.
@@gingerdude94 It was folding the other way. Actually Mate Xs was as good as it could be for that kind of implementation. Obviously X2 is a more practical device but less elegant in execution because it has 2 screens 2 set of cameras (3 set on the Fold).

If it sold in the US, and had google back, it would no doubt surpass the Fold 2. Id buy it but i aint gonna pay full retail up front for a phone that doesnt have google services or anything 😞

One of the best phones in market, in industry, complete package but it's a shame that it doesn't have play services! People outside of China don't know what they are missing! One of best hardwares in the industry are pushed behind by lack of software support!
In the end, the US government actually did Samsung a HUGE favour, cos come to think of it, with the likes of the P40 series, mate 40 series and now this mate X2 having full Google support, Samsung would have been left in the dust by now. Simple as that!

Again Ben, excellent video. For years I was a HUAWEI consumer until this year when I couldn’t handle the missing part of google services. I know how to get them but still is too much. So sad can’t get that piece of art because of that and the high price here in western counties. Keep healthy and safe.
I won't afford any foldable devices anytime soon but I'm glad Huawei still produce amazing hardware to push the technology further more and create such a competition/challenge to Samsung, Apple and other competitors. It's best to us customers.
Gotta remember, an inside front camera isn’t just for selfies. They’re useful for video calls too with a larger video display or if you want to do so while propping the device up in landscape

Damn Benny Boom, just when I thought I had a decent foldable with the fold 2, here you come with this joint. It's crazy cause I jumped from the Huawei mate 20X to the fold 2 because I didn't like the outside screen on the first Huawei fold. Now they came super correct and I have to look at switching if Samsung doesn't increase the size on the next fold. I actually think the Huawei fold is set up exactly how the fold 2 was supposed to be but Samsung punked out. I'm glad you're well my man.
@@baliart908 for the first minute on the Fold, there's the crease already...after 1 month, it is still as serious...Mate X and Xs is no different. But with the new hinge design on Mate X2, it helps reduce that crease....so even after 1 month, it's going to be the same. Something Samsung didn't even try solving in all 3 of its foldable phones.
@@BigBoss7777777 lol...i doubt Samsung would. Given their track record, none of their proud next gen of products ever really solve the issues from the last, except maybe the battery explosion issue. They will need to change the whole hinge design entirely to reduce that crease to be honest. Their existing design won't do, and their folding gap is another huge problem for a folding device. Unless they plan to put their Samsung pen in their as a design next.

Z Fold 3 is coming in a few months time with much INNOVATIVE improvements not copied ones from other's hardwork. Because Samsung started all this, spent money on R&D, took lots of bashing for past failures and made improvements just for another company to copy, make it better and take all the credit.

Thanks Ben for this video. I think you guys in Asia are enjoying with all the phones released there that don't make it here in Europe. Huawei is a great company is unfortunate that the Americans want it dead but I think they will survive and come out stronger. I don't know why all the reviews of the Fold 2 don't mention the very narrow outer screen. I decided I want going to buy the phone until they made the outer screen like a normal phone screen and Huawei had done that. Samsung need to sit up. If with the US been Huawei is this good guess how they would be without the ban?
Been waiting for this review and i knew for a reason that you'd be doing this review before many mainstreams out there, which would still not be better than your's in terms of keeping it real. ✨🙌🏼 The only caveat and a Big one is that the X2 missing a camera inside. Not just for selfies (good thing we can take selfies using the main lenses as well) but video conferencing mainly. I mean, Can't think of any good reason why they didn't do it. For that reason alone, guys might still lean closer to the Z fold 2. Apart from that like you mentioned the hardware, the innovative folding design to keep it flatter than the Z fold2 etc are just 🔥💯.

Which is the other way around. Hwawei copied samsung. They did the same thing on the edge display. Some of the workers at samsung had been sentenced guilty for leaking edge display tech to China

I think you're missing the point on the FOLD2, I have it and I can use 1 hands to type and scroll like I did in my Nokia days, even better with the FOLD1, because the so called "candy bar" grip fits perfectly in my hand and I can use 1 hand to do almost everything I need, BUT with the new Huawei it's too wide, I don't wanna go back to the wide screens that require me to use two hands, 1 hand to hold, 1 hand to type. We should only use 2 hands when it's unfolded, right? So the new "wide" screen on this Huawei is a turn off, I can't explain how but my left hand had it's own brain and totally recalled the feeling of holding a Nokia and loving the grip and feel of using only one hand to type, so when my left hand recalled the comfortable feeling of using the Samsung FOLD1 there was no going back to wide screen or Notes again, I use FOLD2 now and its slightly heavier than FOLD1 but I can still use 1 hand to type. I hate now the idea of pulling out a wide screen phone and using 1 hand to hold and 1 hand to type together. Haha Ben you won't remember me but we met in HK years ago in Mong Kok East, I'm in Shenzhen, anyway, love your vids and keep up the good work. (Missing HK so much.)

@@wrnlb666 that's the main worry. Harmony os is in a quite usable stage right now, perhaps. But the 5 nm chipset production poses the greatest concerns. It seems Asian countries should unite to build a new architecture to decrease the dependability on the US. What say! But even then, I mean there would be problems, tho not in China, as people there hardly use us app based products. Seems like people of other countries will have to adept to new means. I literally see crypto coming and ending these problems to a far larger extent.
I must admit, hardware-wise, the Mate X2 appeals more to me than the Z Fold 2 because it’s actually the size of two full sized phones connected, rather than two 2/3 phones with the Z Fold 2. I feel like that’s how the Fold should have been all along.
It's nice you have the camera buttons on the selfie front screen. We don't have that on the fold 2. The front display is just to show what the camera sees. You still have to use the folded display to take a photo.

Genuinely shocked by how good the Mate X2 is looking. If it had a selfie camera on the larger inside screen it'd be near perfect. Amazed by how fast foldable display tech is evolving.
This is as good I'd imagine folding phones to get visually. And huawei has done it. Obviously next step is durability. In terms of appeal this is the perfect form of a fold as i had imagined. Came even sooner than expected.
I'm working off a Fold2 which I love, but seeing the side by side with the Mate X2, clearly Huawei is knocking it out of the park here! I really need access to Google or else I would be purchasing one of these. Here's to hoping the end of the Huawei trade sanctions so Americans don't have to accept the 2nd best options. Good job👍🏽 This Huawei is what the Samsung Fold should have been from the start, I think they could do it but did the technology retention to give the impression of an evolution to each iteration. I hope this will be a good lesson for Samsung. On the other hand no selfie inside is a very bad idea since we are forced to fold the smartphone for video calls so surely to interrupt what we were doing just before the call.

I am amazed that Huawei made a better folding phone than Samsung. The Huawei Mate X2 outside screen is bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 and the phone is thinner and better looking. I hope that the two phones have SD card slots and the price of both phones come down in the future.
Note 20 Ultra will be the first and only Samsung device where they get to have my money. That was ultra disappointing. I go back to Huawei as it's still the best phone overall. Google hurts the device badly but they tried make it up for better phone overall.

As my primary use will be media, multitasking so I can have a secondary Google account and use it. Now real question is how long will it take to get the price right. Any idea ? I may wait for another 1 month or so.
hi, unless you live in China it'd be pretty hard to buy a Mate X2 without paying a severe markup. so unless you're willing to pay likem US$3,000 or more (right now it's over US$4,000), you are better off just getting the Fold 2. blame US sanctions for making this phone so limited.

They will need to change the whole hinge design entirely to reduce that crease to be honest. Their existing design won't do, and their folding gap is another huge problem for a folding device. Unless they plan to put their Samsung pen in their as a design next.

Z Fold 3 is coming in a few months time with much INNOVATIVE improvements not copied ones from other's hardwork. Because Samsung started all this, spent money on R&D, took lots of bashing for past failures and made improvements just for another company to copy, make it better and take all the credit.

Bruh Huawei been killing it with their devices. Too expensive for my pockets but I appreciate their craft and attention to detail and of course their camera hardware.
Well 🤔 I’m not the biggest fan of foldable phones to say the least 😂 but, the way they’ve done this with slightly larger display and the tapered off thickness to keep the bulk down and shut mechanism looking very swish 👍

Huawei is a great company is unfortunate that the Americans want it dead but I think they will survive and come out stronger. I don't know why all the reviews of the Fold 2 don't mention the very narrow outer screen. I decided I want going to buy the phone until they made the outer screen like a normal phone screen and Huawei had done that. Samsung need to sit up. If with the US been Huawei is this good guess how they would be without the ban?

Been waiting for this review and i knew for a reason that you'd be doing this review before many mainstreams out there, which would still not be better than your's in terms of keeping it real. ✨🙌🏼 The only caveat and a Big one is that the X2 missing a camera inside. Not just for selfies (good thing we can take selfies using the main lenses as well) but video conferencing mainly. I mean, Can't think of any good reason why they didn't do it. For that reason alone, guys might still lean closer to the Z fold 2. Apart from that like you mentioned the hardware, the innovative folding design to keep it flatter than the Z fold2 etc are just 🔥💯.

Bro, I have both the Huawei P30 Pro and Mate 40 Pro. I download a lot of Apps via APKPure and Aurora Store, everything works fine.
I think you're missing the point on the FOLD2, I have it and I can use 1 hands to type and scroll like I did in my Nokia days, even better with the FOLD1, because the so called "candy bar" grip fits perfectly in my hand and I can use 1 hand to do almost everything I need, BUT with the new Huawei it's too wide, I don't wanna go back to the wide screens that require me to use two hands, 1 hand to hold, 1 hand to type. We should only use 2 hands when it's unfolded, right? So the new "wide" screen on this Huawei is a turn off, I can't explain how but my left hand had it's own brain and totally recalled the feeling of holding a Nokia and loving the grip and feel of using only one hand to type, so when my left hand recalled the comfortable feeling of using the Samsung FOLD1 there was no going back to wide screen or Notes again, I use FOLD2 now and its slightly heavier than FOLD1 but I can still use 1 hand to type. I hate now the idea of pulling out a wide screen phone and using 1 hand to hold and 1 hand to type together. Haha Ben you won't remember me but we met in HK years ago in Mong Kok East, I'm in Shenzhen, anyway, love your vids and keep up the good work. (Missing HK so much.)

It seems Asian countries should unite to build a new architecture to decrease the dependability on the US. What say! I must admit, hardware-wise, the Mate X2 appeals more to me than the Z Fold 2 because it’s actually the size of two full sized phones connected, rather than two 2/3 phones with the Z Fold 2. I feel like that’s how the Fold should have been all along.
It's nice you have the camera buttons on the selfie front screen. We don't have that on the fold 2. The front display is just to show what the camera sees. You still have to use the folded display to take a photo.

Genuinely shocked by how good the Mate X2 is looking. If it had a selfie camera on the larger inside screen it'd be near perfect. Amazed by how fast foldable display tech is evolving.
This is as good I'd imagine folding phones to get visually. And huawei has done it. Obviously next step is durability. In terms of appeal this is the perfect form of a fold as i had imagined. Came even sooner than expected.
Great review. I like the Huawei Mate X2 much better as well. Wish we would life the bogus band so we can use it in the US.

I'm working off a Fold2 which I love, but seeing the side by side with the Mate X2, clearly Huawei is knocking it out of the park here! I really need access to Google or else I would be purchasing one of these. Here's to hoping the end of the Huawei trade sanctions so Americans don't have to accept the 2nd best options. Otherwise, I hope you are right, Ben, and that the Fold3 matches specs and isn't just an iterative change. Thanks for your awesome reviews! This Huawei is what the Samsung Fold should have been from the start, I think they could do it but did the technology retention to give the impression of an evolution to each iteration.
I hope this will be a good lesson for Samsung.
On the other hand no selfie inside is a very bad idea since we are forced to fold the smartphone for video calls so surely to interrupt what we were doing just before the call.

I am amazed that Huawei made a better folding phone than Samsung. The Huawei Mate X2 outside screen is bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 and the phone is thinner and better looking. I hope that the two phones have SD card slots and the price of both phones come down in the future.

Note 20 Ultra will be the first and only Samsung device where they get to have my money. That was ultra disappointing. I go back to Huawei as it's still the best phone overall. Google hurts the device badly but they tried make it up for better phone overall.

Hey Ben, I just hold up my decision to buy a Fold 2. I was going to buy tomorrow. Now thinking to wait for Mate X2. As you said, I can use Google services here. As my primary use will be media, multitasking so I can have a secondary Google account and use it. Now real question is how long will it take to get the price right. Any idea ? I may wait for another 1 month or so.

hi, unless you live in China it'd be pretty hard to buy a Mate X2 without paying a severe markup. so unless you're willing to pay likem US$3,000 or more (right now it's over US$4,000), you are better off just getting the Fold 2. blame US sanctions for making this phone so limited.
