If you notice uneven frametimes at 28271828 FPS it matters, because there's no objectively correct number, it's about personal preference. Second, the higher resolution you go, the more heavy running the game will be on your GPU, and it'll use more GPU. If your CPU runs at 60% playing in 1440p and the GPU at 40%, going up to 4K the CPU % would stay roughly the same, but the GPU % might jump to 70 or smth. @@TheBlueboyRuhan

    • @fulgerion
      @fulgerion 5 месяцев назад +16

      You can't just non-nonchalantly mess with these settings. Knowing how to use FPS settings matters a lot. And the RUclipsr isn't telling you in a short.
      It depends on your monitor and the amount of FPS your monitor can reach and how much FPS you run at. if you cap your frames at 60 FPS, you will have higher frame latency, but no screen tearing. But that frame latency gets lower as you get more FPS. If you uncap your FPS on a 60Hz monitor, you will have lower frame latency, but introduce screen tearing. The frame latency goes lower the more FPS you target so 60 FPS is locked at 16.67ms. And it gets lower from there. at 144 FPS i have 6.93ms frame latency idle.
      At 144 FPS, my frame latency doesn't change synced, or unsynced. So unsyncing only turns on screen tearing that serves nothing but cause eye strain and eye discomfort.
      And if you have high frame latency, if the game is based on FPS, you might lag in other ways due to the game being so dependent on FPS.
      Screen tearing can cause false reactions, and slowed reaction. Because in one frame tears, and an enemy was on that tear, you will react poorly. Or, you will react to a tear thinking it was an enemy.

    • @fulgerion
      @fulgerion 5 месяцев назад +8

      The higher your FPS, the lower the frame latency will be. That's why it's better. Frame capping at 144 is 6.93ms, frame capping at 165 is 6.04ms. There is a standardized formula to maintain smoothness and 100% accuracy of frames. Capping at 60 FPS is 16.67ms. Anything beyond your monitor's capabilities will cause screen tearing because the frames are moving faster than your monitor, and your monitor can't cope with it.
      And for fun, Capping at 30 frames is 33.32ms
      Uncapped my latency is 4ms on idle. An extra 2ms is nothing. Once you get past 72 or 90 FPS with a capable, you hardheadedly notice the difference after that. 144 is
      Also depends on monitor. a 60Hz monitor can't handle 300FPS as well as a 144 could. But 60 FPS on a 144Hz monitor will be worse than 60 FPS on a 60Hz monitor becuase your monitor is faster than your GPU and you monitor sees low latency much louder than a natural 60Hz. So monitor matters, a lot.
      This is why we have Gsync and stuff. But many games hate it, and gsync causes strange issues with frame latency sometimes. Your frame latency tens to glitch out. Some games also hate gsync.

    Note: if you are playing a competitive fps title getting fps above your monitor’s refresh rate is actually beneficial. You are getting newer information/frames on your screen if you are getting above your refresh rate. It also reduces input lag as well. If youre playing a solo game/story game capping your fps is good to limit power usage and such, but for comp fps games, the more frames the better.

      @@AlexMetslov You realise that triple-buffered Vsync (which is specifically designed to prevent tearing) works by generating more frames than your monitor needs in the background in order to reduce latency, right?
      Simply capping your FPS (without Vsync, Gsync, etc.) isn't something that prevents tearing, and it will increase latency. In fact, capping your FPS at just above or below your refresh rate can make tearing worse and way more noticeable as the time between frames increases and their display isn't synched with your monitor.

    • @AlexMetslov
      @AlexMetslov 5 месяцев назад

      @@NabsterHax I don't know what are you talking about. Capping frames didn't introduced tearing on my monitor.
      And just applying VSync was never generating more than 0 frames above what VSync was set.
      When my monitor was set to 60Hz, Benchmarks generated 60 frames, When monitor was set to 75Hz, I got 75 frames.
      Used AMD and now Intel GPU with no problems. The whole point of VSync is to let GPU know how many frames monitor is able to handle and generate appropriate amount of frames.

    • @NabsterHax
      @NabsterHax 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@AlexMetslov That’s just because software benchmarks and FPS monitors don’t count the extra frames generated on the back buffers when triple buffered Vsync is on.
      The point of Vsync is to only ever provide fully drawn frames to prevent tearing but triple buffered Vsync is absolutely drawing more frames in the background than your monitor can display. That’s the entire point of having two back buffers - so the GPU can keep drawing more up to date frames but always keep one complete frame ready for the monitor refresh.

    Fun fact, uncapped frame rate on league of legends causes lag.
    Back story, i built a new pc containing a ryzen 9 7900x, 32GB DDR5 6k Mhz, RTX 4070. Loaded up a game of league cuz i was curious how much FPS i could get, uncapped it and it was sitting at around 900-1000 fps. The game then essentially ran in slow motion and playing it was impossible 😂

    For me it really depends on how the game's render cycle is coded. Some games I own will have the render cycle properly with vsync but the game logic can go on its own as fast as it wants. Now its more rare to see games like this but it does result in no tearing on top of the fact all the logic (like collisions) stay consistent

    I learned from a friend that the BEST way to go about it is to set the fps limit ON YOUR GRAPHICS CARD and uncap the FPS on the game itself, which is easier on the GPU since it doesn't have to go through a software filter for your framerate output.
    For me it also allows me to use G-Sync instead of relying on v-sync

    Your GPU drivers also just accept requests and buffers them for later, you can get better input latency by submitting game updates later, you can see like 48ms of input latency in some games, with vsync at 60hz, but can cut it back down to 20ms by submitting the frame as late as possible.

    Your GPU running at 100% is completely fine, in fact it's literally designed to do that. As long as you aren't overheating or exceeding your PSU's wattage, it's completely fine to run an uncapped framerate. Even if your framerate exceeds your monitor's refresh rate, a higher FPS will still massively decrease input latency which is ideal for competitive titles. If you're going to cap your framerate, just enable V-sync, that way you eliminate screen tearing. Unless your framerate in-game is below your monitor's refresh rate, or if the framerate in-game is super inconsistent, you shouldn't cap your framerate just because a RUclips short told you so.

    Back in the day (I mean, not so long ago actually) having higher frame rates even beyond your monitor frequency was a huge advantage.
    In Call of Duty 4 Promod, for whatever reason there were boosts and jumps only possible with high enough fps.
    For example on the map Crash, you could potentionally boost yourself over a ledge in the center of the map which otherwise would not be possible.
    You were running the same speed as everyone else, you jumped high as everyone else, but these climbs were only possible with high framerates.
    But alas these days are over and quite frankly I remember there was some game recently that people found out, some animations were bound to your framerate, so people spent watching the ground while fighting someone so they could cast spells faster? I don't remember really, but something along the lines of this

    Remember this is for AAA titles and casual gaming. For competitive u can't afford limiting fps thats especially if u are in professional scene.
    So do whats better for u if you are a caual player who loves competitive fps check the max fps.. and try limiting around that and reduce some special effects and stuff.
    .fps limiting helps with stabilisation of the fps if u have a low end device and prevent overheating and somewhat extends Your hardware life..
    Note that unless u are overclocking your components like CPU and GPU are built and programmed for their own safety and they have their default limits like ur cpu will cut down its own power consumption if it teaches hazardous limits of temprature By Default.. u can also change that yourself from BIOS
    But again do stuff as per your own requirements not copy what works for someone else

    FPS capping veteran here:
    Use nvidia control panel for capping the fps of a game which doesn't allow fps capping option, or alternatively, find v-sync option ingame.
    how to:
    1. launch the game then close it.
    2. open nvidia control panel and find graphics settings for individual apps.
    3. add app -> you will find your game in the top 10 list if you just closed your game 1 min ago.
    4. search options and you will find FPS option, turn it on and put the value you desire.
    I personally prefer 1 more than my monitor refresh rate (which is 144Hz, so I cap at 145)
    tip: for a graphics intensive game(e.g. cyberpunk or gta), cap fps at 75-90, it won't make much difference regardless if you are on a 75Hz monitor or 165
    for valo/cs or other low graphics - cpu intensive games, just take care of your cpu temps (especially for laptop users target 76 degree C stable on cpu)

  • @ujiltromm7358

    Capping at high FPS is the best solution to remove latency. Leaving uncapped means either the CPU or GPU becomes a bottleneck.
    If the CPU is bottlenecking, inputs processing is delayed, increasing latency.
    If the GPU is bottlenecking, additional frames generated by the CPU get buffered and presented later, increasing latency.
    Capping FPS right before either of those is a bottleneck is the way to reduce latency the best, but it requires some work to find the sweet spot, considering various areas of a game will give various FPS numbers (just looking at the sky can skyrocket FPS, but let's not be silly). Settling for "better" and capping at your monitor's refresh rate if you aren't a competitive gamer is perfectly valid.

    Adaptive sync is the most enjoyable gaming experience when it's working correctly.
