    Rainbow trout are such cool fish! You should get brook trout for the pond!

      @AverieRose  11 месяцев назад +2

      We would love to but it's hard to find big enough brookies. We can get 8-10 inches but we don't want our bass to eat them all. So they would have to be big ones.

      Brook trout die off even earlier than rainbows. They hate warm water.

      Brook trout need really clean and cool water to survive which is why they are usually in mountain lakes and streams.

      It is like sowing seeds or planting young fruit and veggie plants in your garden in the spring in order to have a bounty in the autumn.
      In this case, you are doing the same type of thing with your pond.

    What do you feed them?

    • @AverieRose
      @AverieRose  11 месяцев назад +2

      We stocked the pond with minnows so they eat the minnows. We bought some trout bait too which is grain kibble type stuff.

    Lived one street over from this place and had no idea it was even there hid it well so ppl are not sneaking in catching fish

    • @AverieRose
      @AverieRose  11 месяцев назад

      lol yes it is well hidden and the shade from the trees probably helps to keep the water cooler in the summer.

    Any way you could stock these where they could reproduce so u don't have to restock and keep spending money? Getting rid of such a junk fish like bass would probably help to not eat young ones.

    • @AverieRose
      @AverieRose  11 месяцев назад +2

      We love our bass! lol Our pond actually gets too hot in the summer to sustain rainbows. They will die off in July or August so we only get enough for the winter and spring. Trout also won't reproduce on their own in a pond; they need a stream. The bluegill, minnows and bass reproduce though.
