It is possible to do that, but it will cost some money. I estimate $2800-$4000 for the parts. The two main things that you that make up the adventure package are the transfer case and axles. The transfer case you would need is the Borg Warner 4494 NR6 Transfer Case. If you can find one used they usually go for around $900 to $1300. When it comes to the axles you could either get both or just the rear. The adventure package axles and base axles don’t have any gearing differences in them, they are the same, except for the fact the adventure package axle has that locking differential you are looking for. One important thing to note however is there is a difference between the all the i5 H3s (3.5 and 3.7) and the Alpha V8 (5.3). The alpha has a different gear ratio which is 4.10 and the i5 has 4.56. For this reason you need to get H3 axles that has the same gear ratio as your H3. So if you have a i5 H3, get axles that come out of a i5 H3 and not a Alpha. You can find a rear H3 axle with the adventure package a lot easier and cheaper out of the two. Usually they go in the price range from somewhere $500-$800 used. Just make sure you're buying an actual H3 axle because many of the Chevy Colorado Axles will have an entirely different gear ratio such as a 3.73 instead of a 4.56. The actual name for the Axle is the AAM (GM) 8.6 10 Bolt Rear Axle. The front axle in H3 is definitely more tricky to find and costly. These axles were only made for two years (2009-2010) in at that time GM wasn’t selling many H3s. What you are looking for is a AAM 7.6" IFS in Cast Iron. If it is made out of aluminum, it is not gonna be 2009-2010. It will be a 2006-08. Finding these front axles can be difficult at times but I have seen them go for $1000 to $2000 So you are possibly looking at $2800-$4000. I am not sure of that price exactly because you basically have to find it first on eBay or a Part Out Company. If you can find it for the right price, I would consider the Transfer case to be a worthwhile upgrade to do, but buying used Adventure package axles may not be worth it. It would all depend on the price and how much labor it would cost to install it. What you can do instead if you wanted locking differentials, is you could just go online and just buy a new locker. Basically you would be buying the actual locking mechanism that goes into the axle and you would need to get that installed. There are a number of different brands out there you can buy from such as Yukon, ARB, Detroit, etc. Basically just go ahead and type in “AAM 8.6 locker” for the rear axle or “AAM 7.6 IFS locker” for the front. These aftermarket lockers can cost anywhere from $300 to $1200.” I would stray away from some of the cheaper options out there as they really don't give you the performance as the factory ones would. Some of them don’t truly lock and may lock up on the street. The cost of labor for one of these can range in price depending on where you're at but could be $500 to $1000. So overall it definitely would be costly, but if you are absolutely certain you want to keep your H3 instead of selling it and getting a adventure package, this might be the way to go. Please note by doing this, you are not adding any value to your H3 as this all would be considered standard equipment and you would not get the money back if you ever went to sell it after doing the conversion. So that is a summary. Let me know if anything was confusing about that because I know this is probably all gibberish to a lot of people. So if you just want take a look for adventure package parts look type in: - Borg Warner 4494 NR6 Transfer Case - AAM (GM) 8.6 10 Bolt Rear Axle - AAM 7.6" IFS Cast Iron
@@4lowmode hey bro.. that a lot of work how about swaping h3 front end w/ a h2 front end and back end i see many of these h2's now in junk yard some crashed in front some in back but we are talking about a package vehicle anyways,, just a thought,, great video bro
Thanks yeah tons of misinformation and confusion out there about what it actually is. Hopefully more people will have a better understanding of it now!
@@Jabadaw Yes you are correct. I just call it adventure package because that everyone in the community refers it as regardless if it is a Alpha or not.
After watching this video I browse adds like a hawk, most show.the dash buttons, however, as you said, unless its someone that KNOWS what trim they have, requesting photos of their dash/radio area seems strange. Thanks again for making these amazing videos, however..... Where are your off roading videos?
i have owned and operated an h3 since 06,, mine has the adventure package , i have never used any of that stuff on the lockers , i go four wheeling a lot ,,,,, didnt know, i will check it out .,.,.,.
THANK YOU!!!! Looking at getting an H3T and feel a lot more confident thanks to you and this channel! Keep up the great work. I can see how passionate you are about this. Some of us still love Hummer and not interested in the Jeeps so keep up the content. Thanks again!
AGREE 100% - btw your rules at the end are DEAD on but hey that makes it easier to snatch one off a used lot for dirt cheap :P Got an '07 with 38k (not a typo - no kidding only 38 thousand) miles + adventure package with a Rough country all steel bumper PLUS a WARN Power plant with air compressor for only 13k! I LOVE THIS THING!!!... oh and did i mention that its a manual tran. as well? Some ppl don't like this for off road but i sure as hell do...plus no expensive overheating issues like the autotrany is concerned..a cluth is waaay cheaper /easier to replace :)
We just recently acquired a low-mileage '06 H3 with Adventure Package. Not sure how much we're going to upgrade yet but you've certainly given me some awesome ideas! I appreciate all of your videos! Thank you for helping newbies in the H3 Community.
I am glad I saw this video before buying. The place I bought it from had no clue what the adventure package was. So they had it as a base. I got it for 8400! Lol
Great video. I bought my H3T from a KIA dealership in Washington state for $20k because they had it listed as a base model, but was a adventure package with the manual transmission, and only 80k miles on it. Drove it all the way back to Maryland. Had it for two years now and it's been cross country twice with no issues. They are extremely reliable.
Haha yeah dealerships have no idea what they have and are too lazy to care, even after I put this video out, I see everyone mislabeling the H3 as having or not having the adventure package.
Dude thank you very much for all the hummer vids I have a 2007 Hummer H3 with the adventure package and I absolutely love it it is the first one I have ever owned and I'm learning how to do things to make it better and you are helping alot keep it up please
This has been the best and most informative video on the H3 Adventure package. Thank you! Well thought out video with all the right information at the right pace.
Also, partly because of these excellent videos, I bought an 06 H3 Adventure today in that stunning Metallic Forest Green. I'll be going through all your videos. You've got a new subscriber!
What a well done and informative video! You definitely know what youre talking about, plus have a good way of explaining it. Just bought a '10 ht3 adventure yesterday and already knew most of this, but i would feel good about sharing this vid as a great way to explain to others. Thanks for this!
good vídeo, i don't speak english so good... i have a h3 2008 luxury and i think adventure package, is manual and have rear lock diferential, i don't know sure the tyre size.... you think is a adventure? the low range y so so slow, thx from spain!
4 Low Mode hey I'm thinking of getting a 09 H3t adventure with 75781 mileage also is a 5cylinder 3.7L is it good and do they have any major issues electrical issues or transmission issues that you know about is because I was going to buy a gladiator but still Jeep didn't learn from JL Wrangler steering wheel loose issue and recall they had
@@AlejandroP1980s The H3T is great! I Personally I haven't heard of any large complaints about the 3.7L engine. Believe it or not 75K miles is actually pretty low as many H3s today have over 100K+ miles today. Realistically speaking the 3.7L will last anywhere between 160K to 200K before the engine needs to be replaced. That being said I have seen H3s that go way above 200k when properly maintained. There is one widesperad electrical issue that could affect almost all H3s is the blower motor module. Basically the connector module that controls the blower motor speed for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system may overheat and stop working. So basically that means the knob that controls how much AC/Heat the H3 blows out could stop working. There are four fan speed settings: 1, 2, 3, and 4. For me personally I have my number "4" fan speed stop working in my old H3. When I tried to put it on fan speed "4" it would just turn off. So that issue isn't critical, but still one to be aware of. If you have it in the budget I would also look into getting a H3T Alpha which has a 5.3L V8 if you are looking for more power and want to put large tires on the vehicle.
The fitted brush guard was just an option. My Alpha has one. They are expensive to get parts for. 4 pieces at about $800 ea. I had to replace one of the cross bars, but found a guy selling new old stock on ebay, since they don't make the pieces any more.
Are you talking about the H3X Grille guard? That wasn’t a factory option by itself. It was exclusive to the H3X trim level. Yes, you can probably find one for sale on eBay, but whining buying the H3 brand new, you could only get it from the factory in the H3X trim.
Just picked up an adventure package through a sweet trade from a customer of mine. Your video is super helpful. Also, I noticed you have a little coin tray in front of your shifter, whereas mine is all smooth with nothing there.
Glad I could help you out. Yes so there is like 50+ differences between model years. All 2006 and some 2007s did not have the coin tray but all 2008+ ones did. I have had these vehicles for such a long time now, I have noticed so many differences between model years lol
About the diff locks. They are great, but you arent't completely unarmed with open diffs. You can do something called brake torquing. if you think a wheel is spinning keep one foot on the gas and tap the brake. You can also do this from a dig. One foot on the brake, bring the revs up, and control the car with the brake instead of the gas. Also I can't even tell you how often I just sat back and let traction control do its thing. I have a G80 locker and traction control kicks on faster than the locker.
Yes that is a fair point to make! Some hummer owners call it "The Poor Man's Locker". I didn't include it in the video because it would have gotten too confusing and would have taken even longer to explain. But that subject might deserve a whole video in itself! I'll add it to list of videos I want to do in the future.
I learned that trick in the army in HMMWV training. People say the trick is H1 specific because it has torsen diffs, but no. Brake torqing has a more pronounced effect on torsen diffs but it 100% works on open and any other non-locking diff also.
@@christopherwilson9140 For sure! When the Hummer dealerships were around, they would teach new Hummer owners this technique on the off-road courses they had out back.
Thanks..l now know that i have regular h3,but its called a luxtury package..with all the chrome bling you mentioned. No Locker buttons ,only traction. Question: what does the 4 high do thenif the ittlw lock symbol means not a locker.
The Luxury Package is actually something different than the H3X Trim Level that I mentioned. (The mega chrome edition). The Luxury package came with leather & heated seats, chrome handles/mirrors, and a Monsoon Subwoofer. You can actually get a Luxury Package Combined with a Adventure Package. The H3X does include all the things in the Luxury Package plus the H3X exclusive things like a the Chrome Grille Guard, 18in Wheels, and Hard Tire Cover. Buttons: So those buttons with the locking symbols are the transfer case buttons. They basically change your 4wd gearing and settings to make the H3 better at driving offroad at low speeds. These buttons should only be used when offroad, never on the street because they could break your H3.
Great vid!!! Any suggestions for rust forming where the weeping hole is on the bottom of the driver rear door. The way dirt and mud form on the inside of the rear doors is crazy. I think they designed the door to be a mud flap!
Great videos. Thank you. Any suggestions on aftermarket front and rear lockers for those of us who didn't know about the adventure package when we bought our hummers? I have an '07 w/ 191,000+ miles on it.
hello i am from Canada province Quebec , iha a h3 2006 whit adventure group . i just by the hummer this week , the abs and traction control does not work , is this affect the 4x4 hight and low 4x4 and the lock on the differentiel because the thruck do no go on these mode . plus i dont see the light when I am on neutral
Love my h3 and it was so fun to tell the place i got it from after I got it what they had love the lockers if gm advertise it im sure the h3 would have done so much better
working my way thru your content mate. si Ive been searching for the full Alpha with both front and rear lockers. Wow as rare as rocking horse poop and expensive. So my question is am I better giving up to an inline 5 or an alpha with rear only. ??
I am not an expert at all, but I have a disagreement. I purchased a 2007 H3 in 2008 for my wife and the dealer had an off road set up behind the building. One obstacle in particular was to have 3 wheels on rollers so they would spin with one wheel on the ground. The H3 will distribute all power to the one wheel that has traction and will pull up over the obstacle. I was there, I saw it and drove it. It also crawled over a 16" vertical wall. I don't know what the traction is called, but it will distribute power to the wheels with traction. Also, we live in Alaska and the H3 has NEVER been stuck on ice, the traction distribution has been absolutely amazing for ice conditions.
That must be the electronic traction control kicking in. It uses the breaks to limit wheel spin. For snow/ice it is probably the better option than a hard diff lock. The latter is mostly for crawling.
Thanks for watching! Its a pretty significant feature that GM really never marketed properly and it is really hard to know what to look for when looking at a H3
@@taddmansilla598 Haha yeah! Don't believe anything they say because they have no idea what they are talking about. Just to confirm yourself by looking at the pics!
I watched your video on the body lift, (love all your videos by the way) but I was wondering if you had a suggestion on a kit that I could get 2-4 inches of lift on front and back. The rancho one most people talk about is discontinued I believe. I already lifted the front about an inch just by adjusting the torsion bars, so idk how that affects my options. Thanks for the helpful videos.
nice video man! could you please also describe the difference between 4493 and 4494 transfer cases. Is it possible to rebuilt 2.6 to 4:1 , what actually I need to change in TC? thanks in advance!
Great vid. Sucks in a way cause thanks to youtube, people are starting to know about these gems with the package and the alpha and people are starting to scoop these up increasing values and making them harder to locate.
Hello 👋 Is it possible to put a h3 5 cylinders 09-10 front differential to a H3t alpha ? I have a hummer H3T alpha 2010 and my front differential doesn’t work any more, what can I do to fix my problem? I tried on looking for all the parts of the differential and fix it but I couldn’t find all of them , and I was looking to put a front differential from a H3 5 cylinders but i don’t know if that’s possible, what can I do in my case?
You can technically put a front diff in from a I5 H3 into your Alpha, but the I5 H3 has a different gear ratio than the Alpha. The I5 H3 comes with a 4.56 gear ratio while the Alpha comes with a 4.10 gear ratio. So you would either need to change front diff ring and pinion to have 4.10 gears or you could change the rear diff to have 4.56 gears. If you want to run larger size tires and go offroad I would reccomend you change the rear to a 4.56 gear ratio. Whatever you do, you need to make sure you are running the same gear ratio in both diffs. Also I would only reccomend you run a 2009 to 2010 I5 H3 front diff because they are made from cast iron. The I5 H3 came with an aluminum diff from 2006-2008 and it is weaker. All Alphas came with cast iron differentials. You can tell the difference between the two pretty easily. The aluminum one will be a grey color and the cast iron one will be a black color.
I'm glad I watched this. I was fixed on the FJ for a bit for reliability. After watching this though, not for the reliability, but, it's definitely more comforting considering the features I would of gotten for the higher 2012 model FJ. I want a hummer h3 so bad, but, the Fj, in features, was definitely the better buy. Not after this video! Thanks!
I have only traction control buttons no locker buttons but it’s type my tire size is 285/75R/16 but my car module not American it’s Middle East package so is it Adventure or not ?
Amazing information, thanks! I wonder how hard would be to cannibalize adventure car and replace non-adventure one to add transfer case, differentials and controls.
I am pretty sure some people have done it before in the past. 1.) Putting in the new Transfer case should be as easy as taking the new one out, and putting the new one in 2.) If you wanted to add a locker, you could either buy a new one and put it in, or use the whole adventure axle assembly for the H3. Note* the I5s and Alphas had different gear rations. I5 = 4.56 and Alpha = 4.10 so make sure you get one from which ever version you have 3.) You will most likely have to wire a aftermarket switch, because you could use a button stack that has the locker button on it, but getting it to work may be super hard since it is apart of the H3's electric system.
@@4lowmode Thanks for reply. I had a hunch transfer case would be less of the problem. As I don't have adventure mode, I still want to have at least rear diff lock. There is Eaton lockers I have seen people installing on H3. But looting crashed Adventure H3 might be cheaper, will see, project for future!
I think you can get the T-case for a little more than $800 and its a direct bolt in. If I had a non adv I think thats the only part I would take and then just do my own rear locker, tires, and suspension. If I decided I really had to have the front locker I would buy the original H3 locking front diff because its cast iron (and then stuff it with an ARB or an OX). That is a direct bolt in also and both things can be purchased new from a parts dealer.
Just found an H3 Alpha with the 265 tire plaque. Was it possible to get the V-8 without the adventure package. I thought all Alphas were front and rear lockers
Yes it is possible to get an Alpha without an adventure package. Just like I5 H3, the adventure package was an optional factory option like the luxury package (leather heated seats). Technically on the Alpha it would be called the "offroad package" but it is the same exact name and many people just refer to it as the adventure package.
Good video but you do not have to shift to Neutral to go to 4Hi Lock. Also in your videos with open diffs, you'll notice the Traction Control engages eventually getting them moving again. People just don't usually give it time to work. I now have an Alpha/Offroad. A tremendous vehicle.
Don't forget the 4:1 t case. Technically the adventure package did have slightly higher ended shocks, but they weren't anything that special over the standard. Also most H3s have over 100K + miles at this point and it is recommended to change the shocks every 50K miles so if you buy an adventure, it may not have those original shocks. Other than that, there were no additional changes to the suspension when it comes to the optional adventure package.
what about axel size, spline count, ect., like the difference b/w a rubicon vs x models? does the adventure package have stronger axels, ect.? great vid
Great question! So The H3 Has: Rear Axle: GM 8.6" 10 bolt Front Axle: AAM-7.625" ifs - From 2006-08 this diff was made aluminum, but 09 from 10 it was made from cast iron. 2008 Alphas also had Cast iron. Gear Ratio: 4.56 in I5 H3s and 4.10 in All Alphas Rubicon: Rear Axle: Dana 44 (This is included on the base as well) Front: Dana 44 (In comparison to a dana 30 axle on the base model) Gear Ratio: 4.10 (In comparison to a 3.07, 3.55, or 3.73, gear ratio on the base model) So That Means: Rear Axle: The H3 has a comparable rear axle to the Rubicon Front Axle: The aluminum version of front diff is weaker, but the cast iron version is much stronger, not sure if it is 100% comparable to the Dana 44. That being said, I am running 38in tires on the stock cast iron diff and I have not broken it yet. Gear Ratio: The H3 has a higher gear ratio or the same as the rubicon depending what H3 it is. Things that the H3 Does Not Have That The Rubicon Has: Electronic Disconnecting Sway Bars One thing I am hesitant to mention is the shocks on both of these vehicles. Apparently the rubicon had upgraded shocks, but some people say they aren't any better than the regular ones. The adventure package also had some tuned shocks, but again not much difference. Also a lot of H3s have 75K+ miles and the shocks should be replaced anyway. Conclusion: They are pretty close but not exactly the same. You do get more out of the rubicon package, but for hefty price tag; In the H3 you get the Adventure Package for no additional cost. Honestly out of all the parts here lockers are most important thing to me. So being able to get lockers for a H3 without paying more is a way better value.
i have a 2009 hummer h3t alpha but it doesnt have the adventure package. my question is can i convert my h3t in a adventure package buying the diff and what else i need to buy????????

Wow. Awesome video dude. I’m in the market for one and was a tad bit confused. The most helpful info in got here was the model years with 2 locking diffs, I’m looking at a 2009 with both, wish me luck
If I’m buying like a side mirror on line and it asked what model is it does it mater ? I have a 06 and I’m not even sure what model is it. It doesn’t have a sun roof or leather.
This is one of the best operational H3 videos I have seen. I am a bit embarrassed to ask but I have a 2006 H3. It has the Locking Xfre case button for the rear only, on the right side but no where does it say I have the Adventure package. Also, the H3 came with P265/75R16 tire and not the 285's. It does have some upgrade package things like leather seats. Do you think I have the Adventure pacakge or at least the locking mechanism?
just got an h3 base model. so it has 4.56 gear ratio, or is that for the adventure models? im having a very hard time getting up these rocky mountain highways. been thinking about regearing. it doesnt want to stop on decending or level hwys. itll be up to 80mph before you know it. so i was thinking regearing some wont hurt me at highway speeds. just dont know what gears to go with. help!

Yes I do! Original engine and trans. I actually bought the truck at 250k. Yeah I have only driven it about 2k miles so far (It is not a daily driver). But yeah the previous owner said he had replaced the Front differential, CV axles, Hubs, Transfer case, Front & rear drivelines in the last 50k miles.
I know this is a older video on your channel but if you see this please try to answer... so I know you can’t go over 5-10 mph in 4 low but I was trying to pull my buddy out of mud and I was scared to give it a lot of gas because I didn’t want to break anything even tho I wasn’t even moving I was giving it more and more gas and yea at one point I didn’t want to give anymore gas because I’m not informed on what would happen
Oh hey! I still respond. For that situation, you should definitely be in 4 Low. You can give it gas, but make sure you are not maxing out the rev limiter at 6500rpm when you are trying to pull. If so, it might be better to manually select a gear such as 2nd gear instead of leaving it in drive. You can also back up a little bit and get a rolling start to see if you can pull him out, but do not yank really hard. If that doesn't work, you might have to do some digging or move some of the mud or rocks out of the way to make it easier to get them out or, have another vehicle help you pull it out.
@@crshedoutt Yes can use the manual gears by selecting 1, 2, or 3 on the gear shifter instead of drive in 4 Low. Also, yes, you can leave it in 4 Low when going in reverse.

I am loving the Channel my guy! For someone with only a few videos and 1k subs your quality and presentation is fantastic! I own an 08 Alpha and have learned a lot through your vids. Looking forward to more of your videos. Quick question, does the Alpha come with the adventure package?
Thanks for watching! To answer your question, the Alpha does not come standard with the adventure package, it was a factory option that you could choose to add on when purchasing new,
@@4lowmode Also, another question I have is about a leaking sunroof. Unfortunately, mine is leaking. Do you know any quick fixes to fix this or do you have any recommendations on what i need to do?
You may have a plugged or disconnected drain line. Look into the front corners. You can try to carefully blow them out but not too much pressure as they could get disconnected, if not already. Then you would have to drop the headliner to get to it. They go through the a-pillar and not readily accessible from underneath.
Wow...you killed it. Good job! 1.) Does the Alpha badge mean its an adventure package? 2.) Did the h3t come with adventure package? 3.) Does anyone make beefier a arms/ ball joints etc for the H3?
Thanks for watching! 1.) The Alpha Edition is the not the same as the adventure package. The Alpha is its own trim level and the difference is that it has a 5.3L V8 Engine instead of a 5 Cylinder Engine. The adventure package can be on both Alphas and regular 5 Cylinder H3s. 2.) The H3T is the same as the regular H3 when it comes to adventure package. What I mean by that is that it was a factory option that costed extra, so not all of them have it. Just like on the regular H3, the best way to check to see if a vehicle has that adventure package is to look at the buttons. 3.) Not sure if anyone makes lower A-Arms, however, there is a company called Michigan Metal Works that makes upper control arms. The main benefit is that they are serviceable, unlike the OEM ones which are not. They are also adjustable which cold help with running bigger tires. Here is the link to the product: michiganmetalworks.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=60&product_id=151
It still would be great it has the adventure package! The later model years 2009 and 2010 would be a bit better, but they can definitely come at a higher price and will be harder to find due to limited production numbers of those model years.
What is the name of your roof rack? I’m looking everywhere for the full size one. All I find are Jeep specific racks.😑I plan on cutting a hole for the sunroof if need be.
@@4lowmode Awesome! I found the gobi racks 10 minutes after I posted that. Thanks so much for clarifying. They're a little pricey, but some day it shall be done. Lol.
Probably a stupid question but is it possible or even worth it to install the adventure package on a standard H3 if I could get the parts?
Finding these front axles can be difficult at times but I have seen them go for $1000 to $2000
So you are possibly looking at $2800-$4000.
So if you just want take a look for adventure package parts look type in:
- Borg Warner 4494 NR6 Transfer Case
- AAM (GM) 8.6 10 Bolt Rear Axle
- AAM 7.6" IFS Cast Iron
@@4lowmode hey bro.. that a lot of work how about swaping h3 front end w/ a h2 front end and back end i see many of these h2's now in junk yard some crashed in front some in back but we are talking about a package vehicle anyways,, just a thought,, great video bro
Or buy traction boards
Finally, someone who really knows what an Adventure package is. Now there is at least 2 of us! Thanks.
Thanks yeah tons of misinformation and confusion out there about what it actually is. Hopefully more people will have a better understanding of it now!
On the Alpha option list it's truly listed as the Off-road Package, vs the Adventure on the others.
@@Jabadaw Yes you are correct. I just call it adventure package because that everyone in the community refers it as regardless if it is a Alpha or not.

As an H3 alpha owner I am very happy to have someone who really knows the H3.
i have owned and operated an h3 since 06,, mine has the adventure package , i have never used any of that stuff on the lockers , i go four wheeling a lot ,,,,, didnt know, i will check it out .,.,.,.
I love this guy. They need to put him on TV 📺
THANK YOU!!!! Looking at getting an H3T and feel a lot more confident thanks to you and this channel! Keep up the great work. I can see how passionate you are about this. Some of us still love Hummer and not interested in the Jeeps so keep up the content. Thanks again!
Did u get an H3T yet?
Lol
Please make a video on how u installed that touchscreen stereo
Dude youre like a hummer guru lol. Good work!!!! I learned alot!!!
Thanks! I have a lot more coming!
Thanks! Plenty more in the works!
Good video bro. No BS just the information we want to know, thanks.
Thanks! There is a lot of confusion out there about this package and I wanted to clear that up!
I appreciate your straight to the point style. Been watching a few vids on the H3 and this has been the most helpful. Thanks!
I am so excited, Monday if everything goes well i will own an alpha model with the adventure package, it is an 08 so only rear locker. 138k miles.

Any idea why the service 4wd light comes on when I try to put it in 4wd high or low?
Maybe this is known already, but I find Alpha package with both front/rear locking differentials also. Very useful video, by the way.

4 Low Mode no I want gas saver not really for off road
4 Low Mode thanks for the heads up

Very good video. I'm looking fwd to buy an H3 from 2009. Now i know exactly what to look for.
Why when in 4 high with snow the traction control always activates?
I'm not clear on the difference between the "regular" 4wd setting and 4hi.
can i change my hummer h3 alpha 2008 to front and rear, how could i modify it
About the diff locks.
Great video, well explained!
Hello from the Russian Hummer Club!
Hello! Thanks for watching!
Thanks..l now know that i have regular h3,but its called a luxtury package..with all the chrome bling you mentioned. No Locker buttons ,only traction.
Question:
what does the 4 high do thenif the ittlw lock symbol means not a locker.
Buttons:
So those buttons with the locking symbols are the transfer case buttons. They basically change your 4wd gearing and settings to make the H3 better at driving offroad at low speeds. These buttons should only be used when offroad, never on the street because they could break your H3.
When you dont have it in 4x4 the power Is 60% in front and 40% in rear. When you lock it in then its 50/50.
@@Rogue.Rider0 Yes you got it! Forgot to mention that in the video!
Great vid!!! Any suggestions for rust forming where the weeping hole is on the bottom of the driver rear door. The way dirt and mud form on the inside of the rear doors is crazy. I think they designed the door to be a mud flap!

Do you think an I5 (Adventure Pkg) is a formidable Off Road vehicle or is it too much for the 5cyl?

Love my h3 and it was so fun to tell the place i got it from after I got it what they had love the lockers if gm advertise it im sure the h3 would have done so much better
working my way thru your content mate.
si Ive been searching for the full Alpha with both front and rear lockers. Wow as rare as rocking horse poop and expensive.
So my question is am I better giving up to an inline 5 or an alpha with rear only. ??
So is the basic h3 not a good offroad vehicle???
Thank you. I know what to look for now. I didn’t even know there was an adventure package until i saw your video.
Thanks for watching! Its a pretty significant feature that GM really never marketed properly and it is really hard to know what to look for when looking at a H3

Hello 👋
Is it possible to put a h3 5 cylinders 09-10 front differential to a H3t alpha ?
1.) Putting in the new Transfer case should be as easy as taking the new one out, and putting the new one in
2.) If you wanted to add a locker, you could either buy a new one and put it in, or use the whole adventure axle assembly for the H3. Note* the I5s and Alphas had different gear rations. I5 = 4.56 and Alpha = 4.10 so make sure you get one from which ever version you have
3.) You will most likely have to wire a aftermarket switch, because you could use a button stack that has the locker button on it, but getting it to work may be super hard since it is apart of the H3's electric system.
@@LatvjuAvs Yeah if you can find a Adventure H3 at a U Pull It Junk yard you could get it cheap!
Wow that was some much needed and useful info. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
@@4lowmode Do all 2009 and 2010 w/adventure package have both front and rear lockers or could they be ordered separately.
hey how are you plz i have adventure package but i need a front lock from where i can buy ?
Good video but you do not have to shift to Neutral to go to 4Hi Lock. Also in your videos with open diffs, you'll notice the Traction Control engages eventually getting them moving again. People just don't usually give it time to work. I now have an Alpha/Offroad. A tremendous vehicle.
Did the Alpha come with the adventure package?
Thanks I was wondering how to tell the difference does the alphas come with the venture package also
So, are the larger tires and locking diff the only difference? Any upgrades over the base suspension?
Don't forget the 4:1 t case. Technically the adventure package did have slightly higher ended shocks, but they weren't anything that special over the standard. Also most H3s have over 100K + miles at this point and it is recommended to change the shocks every 50K miles so if you buy an adventure, it may not have those original shocks. Other than that, there were no additional changes to the suspension when it comes to the optional adventure package.
what about axel size, spline count, ect., like the difference b/w a rubicon vs x models? does the adventure package have stronger axels, ect.? great vid
Great question! So The H3 Has:
Rear Axle: GM 8.6" 10 bolt
Front Axle: AAM-7.625" ifs - From 2006-08 this diff was made aluminum, but 09 from 10 it was made from cast iron. 2008 Alphas also had Cast iron.
Gear Ratio: 4.56 in I5 H3s and 4.10 in All Alphas
Rubicon:
Rear Axle: Dana 44 (This is included on the base as well)
Front: Dana 44 (In comparison to a dana 30 axle on the base model)
Gear Ratio: 4.10 (In comparison to a 3.07, 3.55, or 3.73, gear ratio on the base model)
So That Means:
Rear Axle: The H3 has a comparable rear axle to the Rubicon
Front Axle: The aluminum version of front diff is weaker, but the cast iron version is much stronger, not sure if it is 100% comparable to the Dana 44. That being said, I am running 38in tires on the stock cast iron diff and I have not broken it yet.
Gear Ratio: The H3 has a higher gear ratio or the same as the rubicon depending what H3 it is.
Things that the H3 Does Not Have That The Rubicon Has:
Electronic Disconnecting Sway Bars
One thing I am hesitant to mention is the shocks on both of these vehicles.
Never understood the point of 4wheel drive with no locker. Doesn't that defeat the point?
i have a 2009 hummer h3t alpha but it doesnt have the adventure package. my question is can i convert my h3t in a adventure package buying the diff and what else i need to buy????????
Finding these front axles can be difficult at times but I have seen them go for $1000 to $2000
So you are possibly looking at $2800-$4000.
So if you just want take a look for adventure package parts look type in:
- Borg Warner 4494 NR6 Transfer Case
- AAM (GM) 8.6 10 Bolt Rear Axle
- AAM 7.6" IFS Cast Iron
Wow. Awesome video dude. I’m in the market for one and was a tad bit confused. The most helpful info in got here was the model years with 2 locking diffs, I’m looking at a 2009 with both, wish me luck
Excellent explanation of everything.
so i have a h3t alpha with tracktion control button will it go in snow or should i get ride of it and get the adventure package
If I’m buying like a side mirror on line and it asked what model is it does it mater ? I have a 06 and I’m not even sure what model is it. It doesn’t have a sun roof or leather.
It does not matter. All years work. Just get make sure to get the same color as your current one that being black or chrome.
@@4lowmode thanks for replying man 👍🏻👍🏻

@@jesusjj13 im dying laughing !! i wanted to comment the exact same thing!!! just try a few more hand movements lol!!
I want a h3t alpha adventure so bad!! It’s so hard to find, and when I do see one, it’s still $35k! Ouch.
Question please: does the bar/tubing that protects the underside of the H3 indicate an "Adventure Package" or is that just standard equipment?
just got an h3 base model. so it has 4.56 gear ratio, or is that for the adventure models? im having a very hard time getting up these rocky mountain highways. been thinking about regearing. it doesnt want to stop on decending or level hwys. itll be up to 80mph before you know it. so i was thinking regearing some wont hurt me at highway speeds. just dont know what gears to go with. help!
All H3 come with 4:56 gears.
@@Rogue.Rider0 what would you recommend for climbing rocky mountain highways
@@lastbhatalive 285 70 17 (33"). noticed a little less power after going up size. no towing. these rocky mountains where i live have steep and long hwy passes. i have to go over 2 passes to get to pharmacy and groceries. so, i drive the hwy a lot
Great explanation! You have 252,000 miles! Original engine and trans?!
Awesome video buddy! I learned more about my H3. Nice!
I saw a alpha with the lockers after I bought my 3.7. I should have just bought the alpha for the hell of it messed up on that
I know this is a older video on your channel but if you see this please try to answer... so I know you can’t go over 5-10 mph in 4 low but I was trying to pull my buddy out of mud and I was scared to give it a lot of gas because I didn’t want to break anything even tho I wasn’t even moving I was giving it more and more gas and yea at one point I didn’t want to give anymore gas because I’m not informed on what would happen
@@4lowmode is it possible to put the hummer in 1st gear while it is in 4 low?
@@4lowmode and also if I am in 4 low and if I want to put it in reverse do I have to put it in neutral and put it back in the normal 4 mode
@@crshedoutt Yes can use the manual gears by selecting 1, 2, or 3 on the gear shifter instead of drive in 4 Low. Also, yes, you can leave it in 4 Low when going in reverse.
Great info & to the point!
New Subscriber! Looking to buy an H3 nest month. What year do you reccomend for longevity? A lot of 06/07 some 08/09 but the 2010 are hard to find. What year do you reccomend best?
Very nice video!! Just subscribed!! Hoping to see more videos of your awesome H3!! You should do a walk around video of your rig, or common problems of the H3 next!
Yes those are videos that I really want to do next! Definitely will be getting to them in the future!
Good God, kid.
You know your stuff !!!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching! For anyone that has been around H3s for a while you kinda know this stuff. But it is hard for people that are new to H3s to know what they are looking at
Your vids are really good. Keep it up!
Thanks I definitely will!
nice work. Do you know if the adventure kit was available in both the v8 and the I5?
Yes they were both available options on the i5 and V8!
I have 295/75/16’s on mine, no rubbing at all.
Yep! That tire size is equal to 33.4 inches over the factory 33in tiers so you shouldn't have problem!
@@4lowmode Is their any H3/H3T Adventure package with the Alpha engine?
Destaye you can find h3t v8 with lockers
Lol this just goes to show how good these trucks really are. Ad a little brake pressure and they pull through uphill mud even with an open diff.
So 06 wouldn't be any good for off roading?
It still would be great it has the adventure package! The later model years 2009 and 2010 would be a bit better, but they can definitely come at a higher price and will be harder to find due to limited production numbers of those model years.
Thanks I just purchased a 06 hummer adventure package and I use it daily and honestly love it thanks for the video!
