thanks a lot for this video bro, my lat pulldown has been my weakest exercise because I could never nail the form down, but this demonstrated it perfectly.
What helped me with lat pulldowns was pulling with my lats instead of my arms. When I got into that mindset I naturally retracted my scapula and arched my back
Your physical demonstration was correct but your terminology was a bit mixed up. What you're looking for on a lat pulldown is scapular downward rotation, and the chest poking up should come from thoracic extension. Scapular retraction is what you want for horizontal movements, not vertical.
you can do scapula retraction vertical or horizontal. Im speaking to the masses not a physical therapist. You google scapula retraction pull ups then google scapula downward rotation pull ups let me know what you find .
@@nostagnation Just because this video is aimed at the general public doesn't mean you can't use the correct terminology. I'm not a physical therapist and I'm able to differentiate between retraction and downward rotation. If you really want to simplify things you can say "pull the shoulder blades down" instead of downward rotation. Second, cueing for scapular retraction is just bad advice on a lat pulldown. 1) The client is going to focus too much on pulling everything backwards and turn the lat pulldown into a row or 2) they're not going to allow their shoulder blades to move naturally while pulling up and down, making the movement more awkward to perform.
