    I would make a soakaway under the astro turf using gravel

      Hi Robert, that's a good idea. Fast drainage will really help, but you do need to use an enzyme cleaner on a regular basis or you'll get a build up of wee eventually. :)

    You need to use an Enzymatic cleanser regularly but I would recommend power hosing the area first which will aggesively tackle the grime and at the same time lift the muck out of the base of the turf. Whilst doing that, use a wet vacume so you remove the sediment. Then apply cleanser over it ( preferably a double strength enzymatic cleanser ) which will introduce live enzymes into the turf which will constantly be breaking down the uric acid crystals which are forming when the usrine solidifies. Uric acid "activiates" when there is heat and moisture which ultimately releases ammonia which is that horrible smell.
