Both Uematsu and Kondo are technically excellent... but I feel like Uematsu is more well known, so i feel like the additional fame gives Uematsu an edge in the greatest video game composer category.
On a cold December nigh me and my family were walking around Sendai city (an usual family weekend). There was a performance of GranBlue on that day, which is a game I do not know of. I only knew that Nobuo Uematsu was the composer . After eating dinner we decide to go back to our car by using a street that goes back of the symphony hall. We thought there would be less people than the main street, which would make it easier to go around with my son's stroller. We were the only people walking on that dark street... we pass a group of people smoking in front of the backdoor of the music hall. I see one person with a moustache and tell myself "no way?".. There is not many people with moustaches in Japan, but then I thought maybe not....we go our way...30 meter or so and then I tell my wife "I think we just passed a very famous composer that I really like...". She tells me "You should go ask for a picture!" I go back and ask the man "Are you Uematsu-Sensei?". He replies to me "Yes". I say that I'm a fan and ask for a picture. Him and his staff were super nice, taking their time for trying to find the perfect spot for this special family picture. They even joke with me "How come you are not at the concert? You still can buy tickets now!" Me and my wife were really marked by his humbleness and generosity. The next Monday, I heard from a colleague at work who went at the concert that Uematsu talked during the concert "talk show" about meeting this random gaikokujin (foreigner) on a cold night in Sendai. I hope I can go to one of his concert and thank him again for being so nice. 植松先生、お大事にしてください。
I wouldn't expect less from him, I believe he knows he created something that everyone can enjoy but only deep fans will put his face to it. To recognize him shows your love for his work that he loves.
I shook Nobuo-san’s hand one day roughly six years ago. I was wearing an Earthbound Papas shirt and he said “I like your shirt.” Then we shook hands; I bowed my head slowly. It was a good day.
The great Nobuo Uematsu is hands down my favorite musician of all time. This guy is an absolute genius and is an inspiration for me ever since I heard his music in final fantasy games from long ago. His ability to create themes full of emotion that inspire thought and feelings of all types is absolutely amazing. A lot of my love for final fantasy is connected through him and his musical mastery. Truly a treasure for his musical talents worldwide. The feeling of nostalgia I get from his music will last my whole life time and will be passed on for generations to come. Thank you so much Nobuo Uematsu for sharing your talents with the world. You have created a bright spot in many people's lives through your music.
A man who fought his way to from nothing to relevancy, and beyond to legendary status. Love his work. Excited to see it live for the first time this fall. Thank you for bringing these concerts across the world. And thank you for continuing to publish such a marvelous series of games.
Nobuo is the greatest composer of my time, and I will always remember all that he did for not only the series that I love so dearly, but also how he was able to get me interested in the people behind video game music in general, giving me a greater appreciation for the composers who work so hard! I LOVE NOBUO
I can only dream to be on stage, singing one of those timeless, forever classic songs like Maria & Draco, in front of the master himself. Thank you so much for all those wonderful years of adorable music.
This man is a musical legend. Uematsu's music played a big part of my life, growing up with these games. The day he inevitably passes will be a sad day. May his music live on for eternity.
It's funny. Just last Friday I spoke with the conductor of the chamber orchestra I'm playing in and about three arrangements I may make for a concert next year. The Main Theme of Final Fantasy is one of the pieces I'm allowed to arrange and I am really really honoured to do so. ♥
@@theblurcafex1655 It's probably not real. I watched another vid of the composer coming up with the one winged angel theme song and there were similar comments like this.
include a lot of the original cast as well. I'd like to see what their vision of Final Fantasy would be for this day and age. but it'd have to have no stupid fucking executive interference.
I'd say the version which best represents the story of final fantasy is 1:03 where it states out slow paced, where the pause isn't to just set a new pace off with, but actually represents what final fantasy meant where it started slow paced in take up at first, followed by a pause (the decision to release worldwide) and the track then starts a rhythm that, for each release they either add to a style or change the style of it... With V having the best use of SNES hardware capability to make the theme shine in contrast with the ending no matter how bad it was, it always ends great, enhancing the songs purpose to be like a memory of the heroes you've been, and the ones you will be... That's why a realm reborn happened, it was meant to represent the journeys you've taken before by blending everything in perfectly to be enjoyed again without feeling like it's all done before already
This guy knows who to make a grown man cry. And I'll probably cry when I'm old and playing final fantasy 25 and finishing it when the credits roll playing the theme song at the end.
Love all youre music nobou san.brings back all the ff memories.you made millions of people very happy with your music.i always go back to ff games when i need to become a little boy again and what i love like music and games
I didn’t know this was the main ff theme, have only heard it in ff iv. It’s always been one of my absolute ff tracks, and it makes sense! Since it’s the main theme.
I really want to meet Uematsu-sensei some day! I'm planning a trip to Japan with my girlfriend after COVID is eradicated (hopefully sooner than later). It would be so great to meet him along the way!
I love all forms of this song it's not just one thing it represents, it's friendships, hardships, happiness, loneliness, victory, defeat, sadness and everything else... if you hate a representation of this track, you can't be a fan
This and Prelude are the true timeless BGM that never get old. No matter countless rearrangement and remixes, these BGM always sound great. Too bad, maybe only gamers esp. FF players ever hear this piece of music.
Nobuo san, you are a legend and this game has a close enough importance in my life to bring tears to my eye's just hearing you talk about it... Thats how powerful it is and thank you for some of the best music I have ever heard in my life. Final Fantasy VIII was the first game I ever finished, the first Final Fantasy I ever played and the reason I am still a gamer today... Every RPG I play, I am hoping to find some small piece of the magic I found in that game. That is also the reason I will play and support every Final Fantasy in the series even when they are not the best ones made. 信夫さん、私の人生で聞いた最高の音楽をありがとう。私は将来すべてのファイナルファンタジーをプレイします。ファイナルファンタジーVIIIは私がこれまでプレイした最高のビデオゲームでした。
Yah I will play any of the Final Fantasy games but it seems the newer ones focus more on graphics and gameplay rather than the amazing story that so many people loved. :-)
Since after FF10 either yoko, or other composers no one match nobuo's compose piece. he is the true soul of FF. 16 should bring him back make FF awesome again
One of the few times it's not an empty overstatement to call someone a genius... His music lifted the Final Fantasy series to a height it would have never come anywhere near without it. Like a lot of others Final Fantasy VII started my love of RPG's. I still listen to his music now. Final Fantasy is much much poorer in his absence.
''Can't wait to see what fans can do with the FF theme...'' meanwhile RUclips and other platforms taking down content due to copyrights... Gladly I think this is now taken care of back in a day it was a issue.
I would like to ask him what his favorite character in all of the series he was involved with including Chrono Trigger and the other squaresoft titles.
Aww come on, FFVIII is amazing. I think it makes sense he got it perfected then though, a lot of the previous restrictions on music in video games were gone and if he hadn't done it in VII then he was bound to get it right in the next game or two.
Well something had to be, because the ability to break the game two hours in certainly wasn't :P Mind you, playing with and enjoying that brokenness is what makes me come back to that game over and over again. That and the French translation - first game where it was better than the English in my opinion.
ew. i always liked the version in IV and XII better. it's more militaristic, celebratory, like the medal award scene in Star Wars. the one in VIII sound melodramatic. fitting since VIII was like a soap opera.
This theme always struck me as "Elgarian'. A term used not just for the pomp and circumstance but things like the melody in the middle of 'Jupiter' from 'the Planets' of Gustav Holst. Here is that excerpt ruclips.net/video/riYG65Vzdn4/видео.html
@ 1:25 No offence but this sounds better than Japan's Kimi Ga Yo national anthem. They should replace current national anthem with Nobuo Uematsu Final Fantasy main theme.

after koji kondo but yea he is awesome xD
Absolutely yes.

So talented man. I met him in FF: Distant Worlds in London and he was very nice :_)
oooh jealous
You are the luckiest person on this planet
I used this song on my wedding day on the way to the altar. So beautiful.
If this played in my wedding I probably wouldn't reach the altar. I'd break down and sob. It's too much for me to handle.
This is also my song on my way to Altar! I cried as I walk^__^

This music is so simple and its such a masterpiece. This music can literally be played for Wedding
You know when that song plays a grand adventure is about to begin!
That's more of a prelude thing - the main theme tends to play at pretty important points though.
The feels a piece of music can bring..
I love this man's take on music. The musical world is not meant to be bound in chains and restrictive. It is about self and togetherness.
