Im from British Columbia and yeah our plates don't make much sense but the first letter usually indicates what the vehicle is/used for. for example, if its AAA - 123. (3 letters/nums then 3) its a car. if its AA-1234 its a truck, Specifically farm trucks start with an A or a G as the first letter. special permits for cheaper insurance, and use of marine fuel. There is a few others but from working at a rural gas station i kinda had to know this lol. Its a weird system but we are a provincially based insurance, legit no private insurance, weird regulations and insurance premiums. The yellow sticker yes is your insurance you get the "tag" every time you renew it and you gotta put it there, the cops here have auto scanners that detect plates and can read those and see from a distance if you have proper insurance/Registration and even who the registered owner is and if you have a valid license. That plate tells the cops everything.
And the rust in the wheel wells is so common in BC and all around Canada since our government loves to salt our roads, you can see it on cars as new as 2005 some 2010s. but yeah the undercoat from the dealer legit saved this thing otherwise it would probably look 10x worse
Very pissed to see one of the few SR5's in Canada leave. Now I know what the Japanese gearheads must feel like when they see R32's and R34's flying off the shelves in Japan and going over to Canada/USA/Australia.
Brilliant! I appreciate the effort he's gone to in bringing them home that sr5 is mint! I had an ae82 with a 4ac in it for my first car that we ended up putting a 4agze in. That 4ac was a strong little engine that I tried to kill before the conversion but it just wouldn't die and was perfect to learn how to rally.
Bc collector plates means OG paint and matching vin numbers and bc just means no rust cus that's the province that doesn't use salt on the roads. Luck you guys have it
Ae86's are popular in Canada no matter what spec. They are extremely rare to see rolling down the street. Glad to see it restored before it got too bad and was sent to scrap.
For sure! I used to love seeing normal people driving them around Vancouver when I lived there in 2015, there were a good few still knocking about, I doubt it’s the same these days
@@juiceboxforyou thats awesome. Im over in Ontario where we use road salt so they disappeared quick. Ive seen 3 total ever. 1 in the junk yard back in the day and 2 on the street.
@@juiceboxforyou I'd call them rare, see a couple driving around in the summer and they don't come up for sale more than a few times a year. There aren't many nice ones. Got my GTS four years ago and dont see any as cheap or nice now.
BC Parks plates are the best looking plates in Canada by far. My miata got blessed by the government of BC with a PK69. Sticker is for insurance tho on BC plates, not taxes, unlike other provinces. Cops can till if your insurance valid by pulling the plate number.
Here in Germany we got I think 3 or 4 sr5‘s that have been imported. Honestly I thought of getting a similar sr5 and putting a 4AGE and GT Apex bumpers on so I‘d have a wannabe 86 GT Apex.
The SR5 and the GT-S have different interiors. From what I can see, the zenki SR5 interior has the JDM AE85 interior parts And the zenki GT-S has the JDM GT-APEX interior parts The kouki however, the SR5 had slightly altered zenki GT-S door panels (shown on the car in this video) and the GT-S had the JDM GT-APEX Kouki interior. However, some late 1987 cars came with JDM AE85 interiors. Another thing to mention is that in the US, all AE86s came with the USDM Celica's 2 spoke steering wheel, however the Canadian cars either had the JDM AE85 2 spoke steering wheel on the SR5 or the JDM AE86 3-spoke on the GT-S, with an added leather wrapping.
Would you Consider doing a deep dive video into all the trim levels, model year changes, market differences, engine/gearbox options of the E85/E86? Would be a very interesting video.
My friend is a canadian ae86 fanatic mostly inspired by the late 2000s guys bentmafk films also from canada. He'd love to see this specially since its an sr5
What a beaut, he did a great job restoring that eight six. I think its true how you said the Irish love eight six's and old Toyota's, I'm mostly Irish and live in the U.S and growing up my dad and I love Toyotas. I got an 88 celica gts im slowly restoring, I'd kill for a proper eight six.
Just wow...I have a buddy here in Manitoba Canada that found a black 86 GTS in Vancouver bought it from the original owner. He scored big time cuz it was mint. He semi restored it and now it looks like the tofu delivery car from initial D. Great vid thanks

as an american, any 85/86 is extremely rare & still a joy to see. i’ve only ever seen one in person, he’s close to me in Ohio, he lives in Indiana & i believe you actually follow him haha
The North American Corolla Sport GTS (with the Twin Cam 4AGE) actually had 'AE88' stamped on the VIN if I recall correctly. The 'AE86' on the VIN for North American models indicated the lower trim SR5.
In Queensland ( Australia) we don’t have rego stickers anymore they stopped a few years ago now it’s all on the computer when the cop puts in the rego number
great to come home from the shop and see you posted these gems. Thanks Brother, wish I could find an 86 in decent condition to build. We don't get the good stuff here in NA until it's too expensive for a normal guy like me.

Well, some people think they're cool now, but I'm pretty sure if the worlds atomakers were making more interesting new cars, people wouldn't give them a second glance. Respect for the SR5 SOHC love! Late model 87’ GT-S USDM interior they used SR5 interior on most. I assume they just ran out of or stopped production on the Ae86 interior in Japan and we got the left overs.
GT86's are common as here in Australia as well. They were $35,000-$50,000 brand new. If you could find one they probably still are. So I guess about €24,000. But average wage here is €750 a week so I don't know how that compares dollar for dollar.
So cool to see the full story on this. Been curious about it since the IG post. Like most Irish petrol heads in Canada I am always trying to think what two cars I would bring home when the time comes. Seeing this proves it’s definitely worth it.
