@@Wolfboss7 FF was always in pretty boy territory if you've ever seen any of the artwork for the series from FF1-FF6. It was just hard to showcase in the 16 bit era.
Personally I liked the introduction of Roche as a new character. With all the awe and fear from other characters saying how badass SOLDIERs are, Roche's character as a new adversary highlights SOLDIER as a tiered special operations organization with skilled and well-trained members that stand out as a cut above the conventional Shinra infantry and their reliance on drone weapon platforms. This was something the original game did not touch on, as they were only random mooks you fight without being boss battles. His flamboyant personality captures the essence of how many members of the special operations community are oddballs (IMHO), but also skilled professionals who are force multipliers on the battlefield.
Every single member of SOLDIER we've interacted with is weird; they all obsess over something. People (like Reno) comment on it consistently in the games too. I'm pretty sure the mako infusion screws with your head. It's neat to have it more or less confirmed.

Genesis has an obsession with poetry and being a great hero, Angeal is a clean freak and obsesses over keeping the Buster Sword spotless, Sephiroth's obsessed with his identity and destiny which leads to bigger problems for everyone else, and even Zack, despite being one of the most normal SOLDIERs we see in all the games has a really big obsession with being a hero. We already know how fucked up Cloud is in the head since he was pumped with 5 times the normal amount of Mako along with Sephiroth's cells. One might say his obsession is living out his childhood dream and keeping up his fragile sense of reality. So Roche really isn't out of place and I don't know why people keep pretending like he's some huge departure from the norm at this point. SOLDIERs being weird has been a part of the lore for a long while now and the Remake further adds to it with the President confirming that all SOLDIERs go through accelerated cellular degeneration following the Mako infusion which further adds to their unstable state of mind.

The only thing I didn't like is the introduction of 3-C SOLDIER as normal enemies at some point during the game. SOLDIER or anybody in SOLDIER should have a character arc on their own. Perhaps SOLDIER trainee would have been better for those later on enemies.

Cloud was never into Soldier anyway, he was just a Shinra grunt and when he later says to Reno that he used to be 1st Class, Reno laughs at him cause the 1st Class are really few and really well known. Also Shinra would never let a 1st Class just up and leave.
Purist can suck it, I’ve played the original already, I rather play something fresh and not know what’s going to happen. I for one, am looking forward to more new characters.
@@jet44444 The original game still exists so it's not like the remake erases it. A remake should refine the source material and add to it, as to remake something is to rebuild it from the ground up. If you are going to do that just copying the original is a waste. IMHO Characterization in FF7R is vastly superior to the original, its full of nuanced little moments, with Barret in particular standing out.
This dude better be the Goro Majima of this remake. He's an awesome addition! Also Roche's theme sounds very "Heroic" more than villainous. I hope there is a twist where he joins Cloud.

One thing I really liked about the remake is how they made up completely uncanon characters like Roche and Leslie, but they did a good job making them worthy inclusions. Square knocked the whole remake out of the park.
This is my favorite battle in FF7R. The music, the directing, those mid-battle cutscene camera angles. The dialogue leading up to this is also hilarious. Jesse: What is that guy’s deal? Cloud: Same shit. He’s just being a dumb-ass.

Shinra probably he's one of their elite so he definitely gets special privileges like being able to drive like an utter lunatic without any repercussions.

Hes actually a 2nd class if you all remember in crisis core blue uniforms were 2nd class and zack sported the same sword and uniform Roche is wearing at least that what was I recall I could be wrong
That's exactly what SOLDIER is meant to be. Like Special Forces. You need to be a bit... off in the first place to get into it in real life and it's refreshing to see they've kind of made that comparison in FF. Your academic special forces equivalent would be an engineer or chemist etc.
I was stationed in Fort Bragg as part of the 82nd Airborne. Fort Bragg is where they train US Army Special Forces, so I met a few. No, there are not crazy. They have aptitude tests to weed out any sort of mental issues. They are just confident people. Almost like the idea of failing doesn’t cross their minds. They are the type of people who fracture their legs and still march for miles or could beat someone to death because they ran out of ammunition or will try to do calculus after they been sleep deprived for days. Very trauma resistant.

He can ignore the planet because of his "will" / mental strength etc. but he somehow went absolutely mentally ill reading a few books in Shinra mansion. That doesn't add up.
@@Enavor well said place had JENOVA really really nearby as well. It's highly possible Jenova was influencing him from the moment he came to Nibelheim causing him to go over the edge.. after all Jenova and Jenova cells are pretty powerful and Sephiroth did use a similar ability on Cloud

The Jenova cells inside him further corrupted his mind. He is able to manipulate others who have been altered with Jenova cells (Soldiers). That is how he is able to manipulate Cloud’s mind.
I'm pretty surprised that a 3rd Class SOLDIER like Roche can hold his own pretty decently against someone like Cloud who has the fighting and mako skills of a 1st Class SOLDIER.

He's a fan favorite due to his wacky, insane antics, and over-the-top nature. So much so that he became a playable character in the series' prequel Yakuza 0, and got his own unlockable campaign in the remake of the second game, Yakuza Kiwami 2.

He would definitely be back for Part 2 and so on. I mean he's never a loyal SOLDIER to begin with (even Shinra soldiers are scared of him), so he might already be out of Midgar after the brief skirmish with Cloud.
Idk man Roche seems to have hidden agendas, I mean he is introduced as a villain but he constantly helps cloud (killing the enemies the motorcycle scene, heals cloud before the fight starts). Also he has a similar battle stance with a certain someone in a previous game, using a similar sword. Hmmm
To be fair that’s a standard Shinra sword. In crisis core however you do see some Shinra troopers use the sword, to bad you never fight them though. Edited for auto correct errors.
Cloud might not have ever made it to 1st Class SOLDIER, but he sure knows how to fight like one. And to think who and how broken he used to be back in the day.

best part of the battle the way he look to his sword was epic you can see the joy on him like he never felt that way long ago this why he called cloud as "Friend"
I'm gonna make this prediction. His whole character arc will always be an adversary. For him all he seeks is the thrill of battle. That said he's pretty close to dying. So he figures he might as well choose how he dies. That said he finds potential in Cloud and decides that he will slowly train him up with the Majima method until he is able to truly make for the greatest duel of his life so he can die honorably instead of dying from something like mako poisoning. That's at least the vibe I get from him.
Ik a lot of people were mad about the remake changing stuff up. I understand how they feel and I have no quarrel against those opinions even thought I feel the opposite. However one thing I can't deny is Roche being added in my opinion is actually an enhancement to the game. In the OG they always talk about Soldier and all the classes but if they exist why don't we ever see them around. If there is a terrorist group with some high level fighters such as Avalanche I'm sure Shinra would've sent some soldiers after them, but that never happened in the OG. So if anything Roche is good for world building. The OG did plenty of it but I think the Remake is actually enhancing that a lot.
Such a wasted opportunity not to include Roche in the crazy motorcycle escape from Midgar, but not understandable. Still, he was easily my favorite of the new characters introduced. By all accounts, no one like him could exist in real life and live doing the crazy shit he does and he's an absolute middle finger to physics. But I don't care, I can't help but love him. His insanity, larger-than-life attitude and noble demon behavior endear him.

Roche was probably a tough opponent for some of the people who are new to this game. He didn't seem too hard, since I don't have this game I don't know how many times you fight him. I like the fact that he fought Cloud one on one. He could have used backup I assume he's with shinra.
Roche is such a interesting character like i wanna know whats his goal, what does he see in cloud more than just a rival, like will these 2 ever team up n have some cool lil history like clouds n seph or him n Zack. I jusy dont wanna see his character get put to waste

Roche vs Cloud was so cool, Biggs and Wedge and even the Shinra Troops just watched it quietly.
God I can just imagine Jetstream Sam’s theme to this fight, definitely one of my favorite bosses in the remake

He's a fan favorite due to his wacky, insane antics, and over-the-top nature. So much so that he became a playable character in the series' prequel Yakuza 0, and got his own unlockable campaign in the remake of the second game, Yakuza Kiwami 2.
I fucking love this Roche. One of the best boss battles and characters in the game. I hope he returns in part 2 and 3.

He would definitely be back for Part 2 and so on. I mean he's never a loyal SOLDIER to begin with (even Shinra soldiers are scared of him), so he might already be out of Midgar after the brief skirmish with Cloud.
Idk man Roche seems to have hidden agendas, I mean he is introduced as a villain but he constantly helps cloud (killing the enemies the motorcycle scene, heals cloud before the fight starts). Also he has a similar battle stance with a certain someone in a previous game, using a similar sword. Hmmm
To be fair that’s a standard Shinra sword. In crisis core however you do see some Shinra troopers use the sword, to bad you never fight them though.

I'm gonna make this prediction. His whole character arc will always be an adversary. For him all he seeks is the thrill of battle. That said he's pretty close to dying. So he figures he might as well choose how he dies. That said he finds potential in Cloud and decides that he will slowly train him up with the Majima method until he is able to truly make for the greatest duel of his life so he can die honorably instead of dying from something like mako poisoning. That's at least the vibe I get from him.
Ik a lot of people were mad about the remake changing stuff up. I understand how they feel and I have no quarrel against those opinions even thought I feel the opposite. However one thing I can't deny is Roche being added in my opinion is actually an enhancement to the game. In the OG they always talk about Soldier and all the classes but if they exist why don't we ever see them around. If there is a terrorist group with some high level fighters such as Avalanche I'm sure Shinra would've sent some soldiers after them, but that never happened in the OG. So if anything Roche is good for world building. The OG did plenty of it but I think the Remake is actually enhancing that a lot.
Roche wants to fuck his bike and Cloud more than Sephiroth wants to fuck the timeline.
Such a wasted opportunity not to include Roche in the crazy motorcycle escape from Midgar, but not understandable. Still, he was easily my favorite of the new characters introduced. By all accounts, no one like him could exist in real life and live doing the crazy shit he does and he's an absolute middle finger to physics. But I don't care, I can't help but love him. His insanity, larger-than-life attitude and noble demon behavior endear him.

Roche was probably a tough opponent for some of the people who are new to this game. He didn't seem too hard, since I don't have this game I don't know how many times you fight him. I like the fact that he fought Cloud one on one. He could have used backup I assume he's with shinra.
Roche: "I'll see you on the road, my friend."
Narrator: "Roche returned to his home planet and died."
Cloud and Roche seem to be the Final Fantasy version of Dante and Vergil....only backwards since Cloud is very serious and Roche is wacky woohoo
