    Not only is it an amazing EV conversion, you are keeping a classic on the road instead of the junkyard! Electric Classic should come to the US as they'll do a ton of business here.

    Tesla should focus on selling their batteries and motors worldwide instead of selling cars and they should open conversion and service centres worldwide where people can get their old vehicles converted to EVs. They will find a lot of buyers and wont face the current production issues.

      yes! focus more on diy. could certify ppl who do conversions. there would be a rush of ppl buying used lux cars with 300,000 mi on them. they would still be able to offer the app stuff in tesla cars anyway. keep that bs.

      Tom I fully agree. I did the Jaguar factory tour today and saw what went into volume production. Tesla haven't got the experience of volume car production. It's easier for the mainstream car manufacturers with decades of volume production to catch up with EV technology powerplants than it is for Tesla to ramp up their production. They should stick to what they're good at motors and batteries and supply them to established car makers. Win win.

      Cranes (in both industrial and construction applications) and Bucket wheel excavators are electric nowadays and so are most machines that sit inside any sort of building (such as a factory or a warehouse). • @timmytubede

    An electric drivetrain is so much better suited for off roading.
    With a fossil engine you have an uneven power delivery, you lack torque at low rpm that has to be compensated with a either a lot of gears or a torque converter and you need differentials and locks on them. You also have bad vibrations from an engine and combustion engines generally need air to combust. So you need a snorkel for deep water.
    In an electric vehicle on the other hand you can just install one motor per wheel, so the locking differential is just a software and can be made to be always on, even in corners. You can start and stop and drive at low speeds without a problem due to the working of an electric motor. Electric motors have a very smooth power delivery and usually make no vibrations, that helps you to maintain traction on slippery slopes. Electric motors don't need air to work, you could fully submerge the car in the river and it would still drive, given that all the wiring has been properly insulated and the motor itself is sealed as well.

    Interesting car. I can see the electric motor has enough power to move such a heavy car, it has a good range for a car that heavy. A light weight car like mine ('89 Geo Metro), it's a cheaper version of the Suzuki Swift it would get a better range. Interesting to see old cars converted to electric, doing it you forget about refueling, oil changes, coolant and another fluids, except the transmission and differential oil. Great video

      Well, I'd rather see as much as possible around, so I can take more preventive actions :) Also, I can understand that thing with windscreen and thick A-pillars. However I do really hate those small side windows that are only there for design purposes - "to look it more sporty".
      A whole bus manages to hide behind my C-pillar when I'm pulling out of parallel parking - just behind C-pillar, and just outside mirror line of sight.

    • @mikec5820
      @mikec5820 6 лет назад +2

      Thick pillars are not always necessary for roof strength. Many race vehicles in SCORE off road competitions utilize 1.63 to 1.75" diameter chromoly tubing. High quality materials and competent engineering solve that problem.
      I agree that visibility plays a primary role in accident prevention. These (all too common) upswept beltlines are dysfunctional and unattractive.

    So if Tesla batteries are the most energy-dense available, I'd be curious to see what would happen to the available capacity and range if you swapped out the batteries in a Leaf for Tesla ones, and maybe squeezed some extra packs in there somewhere too......

    • @riggald9864
      @riggald9864 6 лет назад +4

      What would happen? The Leaf would become a $55k - $73k car like the Model 3 is, and not a $29k-$36k car like it is.

    • @Arpin_Lusene
      @Arpin_Lusene 5 лет назад

      Barry Wellington Well not only the battery, tesla's motor is the most efficient EV motor out there, it has more power while being more compact compared to its competitors. If you look at some other EVs out there, on the spec they squeezed in more batteries which means more Kwh(total energy), but the range is shorter compared to tesla.

All the original charm is still present in this RR, but it has had a new lease of life and could feasibly be used on a regular basis. Great show guys!

    Obviously doesn’t need a snorkel to breathe, but can it still swim like a Range Rover?

    • @CalHallows
      @CalHallows 6 лет назад +2

      So the electric motor wont mind a bit of fresh water, but mud and guck or salt water wont make it terribly happy. With adequate cooling the majority of the electronics could be completely sealed (such as the batteries, speed controllers and the like) so it could probably be made to go swimming, but I wouldn't really fancy it on the off chance...

    • @Adrian_Nel

      why not just use a submersible electric motor. The design is not that different. Also, I dont understand why you would go to all the trouble to do a Range Rover. Porsche, XKE, RX7 - yes, but Range Rover? Just to prove you can do it?

    • @Petriefied0246

      Rasputin surely skipping the unnecessary mechanism would make it simpler? Even connecting the motor to the transfer/drop box would be a solution and still allow the centre diff to be locked off road.

Taking an old Rangerover, which in it self is ecological as demolishing electric cars is quit a burden on the eco system anyway, and convert it to electrical is the way forward.
