      Adam Chabni. Basically those tires seemed over pressurized they need minimal air pressure than their normal pressure. In doing so It'd improve wider tire footprint for better grip and will also reduce vehicles bouncing uncontrollably. BTW Nice video. "Land Rover!"

    We had a Land Rover- sold it because it was always in the shop
    Broken that- leaking this- electronics not working right-
    Bad sensors- got rid of it right after the warranty expired
    Have had a G class Mercedes since
    Only 1 issue - 1 bad spark plug
    Otherwise just oil changes and brake pads and usual service
    Now 10 years old-347,108 miles runs great to this day
    We take it off-road monthly in the desert of CA- no freeway baby miles-
    No driveway Queen-
    She was up to her steps in mud two weeks ago and did great!
    Sold On Benz!

    Both trucks make it to the top of the obstacle, but the Land Rover does it with less fuss, and on the second attempt.

    Funny how those, like HG, who could never afford a good car, say stupid things! LR is voted the N° 1 car in the world by one or other of the comparison sites almost every year. The Merc - if like the oneI had is just fit for the scrapyard; and, it is not only the driver but 90% of the success is the tyres. The film shows the difference. The LR Traction control is the best in the world.
    Sorry HG

      @swampfox1953 7 лет назад +8

      Richard Leaver I hate to disappoint you but I have personally experienced a climb in a Range Rover Sport that was just as difficult. Put a good set of off-road tires on a Range Rover and it will go anywhere either of these two can go. The only people that deny that fact are people that don't know Land Rover very well. I have been off-roading with both and can tell you the stock Range Rover is probably actually more capable when compared to a stock Defender mainly due to it's superior traction control system.

      Don't worry, wasn't knocking a Rangy Swampfox, If you look at my channel you'll see the wife has a Freelander 2 HSE, superb machine !, what I meant was, I'd just like to see an 80k Rangy turn up at that moment and take the piss out of every thing else trying to climb that, we both know you could put two of it's wheels on ice on that slope and it would probably still pick it's way up. We went on the Land Rover day out near Skipton, North Yorks when we got the Freelander, they put me on a slope with both it's passenger side wheels on rollers then they said set off again, after a second or two it figured there was something a miss down one side and put all it's power to the drivers side wheels and simply climbed the rest of the hill, stock Landy with stock tyres

    Lets see the truth: this more then 70 years old Landrover- construction is better on field than this new Mercedes G. Other example: Mercedes Smart. A construction from a Swiss engineer, sold to Mercedes with the hope this would be the new and best electric car in the world. Cheap business for Mercedes but they are not able to construct an electric car. (I shame: first car, first car engine, first electric engine from Siemens etc. they are all Germans). To my person: I drive a Landrover Defender and I'm a German.

    Ok so you quit playing Minecraft 5 months ago, I'm sorry that I jumped to a conclusion. For what it is worth, if we were to go wheeling I would hold off on the body work and paint until afterward.
    But it doesn't matter, none of it. Don't be embarrassed for being a youngster because every adult was young at one time. Just don't think you know it all like my teenaged son. Heck, nobody knows everything...

  • @VIDEOZAL
    @VIDEOZAL 12 лет назад

    (1) They are better in the way you can beat shit out them. Your fancy LR is good only when the dealership and tow-trucks are nearby...
    The reselling price for LR is unimaginable... For example 2000-2004 LR with 100K miles costs $2K-$3K in a perfect condition. When The cars I mentioned before with the same mileage and age cost $5-$10 sometimes even higher... Why is that? People just get tired fixing the shitty LRs...

  • @VIDEOZAL
    @VIDEOZAL 12 лет назад

    Toyota still makes FJ, Tacoma, 4Runner. Nissan still makes Pathfinder, X-Terra. Jeep still makes Wrangler. All these cars will eat Brand new LRs for breakfast. Taking your brand new LR from a dealership to a few mountain holes is not off roading. Beating a shit out of the vehicle that's off roading. If yo like Jeremy ok, he himself said that British cars suck in reliability... One more time, I respect LR for its history, but now it's just a history. There ARE better 4x4 now...

  • @VIDEOZAL
    @VIDEOZAL 12 лет назад

    I don't ask you to agree or disagree. I saw new yotas, nissans, jeeps making circles around stuck/broken LRs. It's too much stuff in them to brake and it's unacceptable for sport vehicle whether it's made for a speed track or off road track. Plus the price is TOO high for an off road buggy plus the maintenance is TOO pricey for an off road buggy plus the mods are limited. Can a new LR climb rocks? Well I can talk about it forever. Don't even start it. I respect a 30 yo LR, but it's over now.

  • @VIDEOZAL
    @VIDEOZAL 12 лет назад

    LR does not make off roaders any more... They WERE making great legendary 4x4s long time ago but not any more... LR is now all about luxury. Put a new LR next to a new Jeep, Toyota or Nissan in a real world off road conditions and it will fall apart. The era of LRs as great off roaders has ended last century...
    Well to be honest the 4x4 sport is dying. It was times when almost every company was making good 4x4s. Now there's just few of them....

  • @bastianfrom77
    @bastianfrom77 12 лет назад

    @2bornottoby My new opinion is (you should nevver stop to leanr): the G has the better AWD-System (Permament+three lockers+2nd transmission) - the landy is the same except for the lockers (only mid-diff lock). The landy usually has the better offroad-suspension keeping all wheels perfectly on the ground for a long time, while the G-Suspension is much stiffer. In this vid you compared a G500 with a V8 to landy with 2.x engine - so the G is MUCH heavier. i'd prefer a G270 instead

  • @cpwillig
    @cpwillig 12 лет назад

    NL land army: Mercedes, our Royal Navy: Land Rover 110 XD's: experience in the sandy dunes: marines in LR 110's: no problem running around (standard), Mercedes (loaded also) stuck mostly; after at least 2 wheel/ tire combinations + diff locks could do the same. Weight distribution is key: LR front axle remains about same load while vehicle is fully loaded; Mercedes LWBase: rear axle pos effectively increases front ax load: earlier stuck.

  • @watannen
    @watannen 13 лет назад

    @acetrucks1 are you trying to piss me off? or have you really no idea? The Land Rover brand started its existence when the Rover company build the LAND ROVER as a 4wd multi purpose vehicle in the 50's or so. It was based on the jeep willis and built with aluminium leftovers from ww2. As the Range Rover and the Land Rover Discovery came along and they went on selling their first model as the Defender. I have really no idea why im wasting time and effort to tell you this when you can google it.

  • @watannen
    @watannen 13 лет назад

    @acetrucks1 im sure that you mean that everybody turns land rovers and not Gs into offroaders because they are less expensive. Did you know the G was designed for some arabian army back in the 70's or so?. The Defender already existed back then. So if it was SUCH a good car, why did they ask mercedes to build another one especially for them and not buy the existing and MUCH cheaper Defender? You only need to fit a good set of tyres to it and the G will offroad and very rarely break down.

  • @watannen
    @watannen 13 лет назад

    even though the land rover did get up the hill, i think the G is still the better offroader. Just look how bouncy the land rover is => it could not have gone up faster even if the engine performed better. The G has way better suspension. much smoother. Then the G couldn't climb so slowly i think because of higher torque that caused it to lose grip. Also the G's driver's foot seems a bit heavy.

    Whats that suppose to mean? Just because I played Minecraft at one time means I can't off road my truck? I never took any videos of that because I don't have a decent video camera, and to be honest it was never all that interesting. My disco needs body work, a new coat of paint, and gets atrocious MGPs, so I'm trying to replace it as my daily driver.

  • @RandomInternetDog
    @RandomInternetDog 12 лет назад

    Resale is a little more than double that, at least around here.
    The parts are hard to find and expensive, and they do require a little extra maintenance. So the resale value going to be lower, its the same with some Porsches and other high-end vehicles. They're worth it though, IMO.
    I'd much rather be rollin' in my disco than some dumbass Toyota.

    Too bad for the G. The newer one stands a better chance if they we're to retake that again but still, Land Rover Defender has been around since 1960's (?) and yet it can still beat or match modern day cars. Go DEFENDER

    yo creo que esa subida engaña. a mi me paso lo mismo. en una subida que hicimos en el video no se aprecia. pero ninguno la pudimos subir a la primera. la gente me decia, que si no la habia atacado bien y tonterias. solo digo que cuando la vimos, pensamos en darnos la vuelta. conclusion: el video no hace justicia.

    Never understood why Landy owners but hi-lift kits on. It does nothing for ground clearance, and moves the centre of gravity upwards, the opposite of what you want when offroading. It's a completely negative mod on that vehicle.

    Judging by your videos, you're actually not as far away as you could be. Not that far at all relatively speaking, but right now I'm trying to start a career. I've got street tires on my truck right now, being unemployed I can't afford gas getting that far north much less a repair if my rover decided to break. I've got a pipe dream of sticking a Defender body on that disco frame one day, maybe then. :P

    In the Late 1970's when Persia (Iran) was ruled by the Shah he was the main share holder in Mercedes Benz, as there was a revolution in the making the shah wanted a reliable and versatile vehicle that was not only reliable and comfortable but one that could be easily adapted for military use and all the variations needed. Then in 1978 the G wagen was in production built by hand in Austria.
    You either love them or hate them ! Most people who have 4x4's don't even go off road so shouldn't comme

    Engine size/power isn't entirely immaterial, esp on hills. "Power hill" isn't just an American concept. More torque would allow the use of a higher gear (low 2nd/3rd) which would help suppress wheelspin on the ascent. A 500cc engine would have to be geared so low that there'd be "zilch" energy/momentum & traction would be lost pretty much @ the base

    @bastianfrom77 suspension set up here makes no difference, articulation is only beneficial climbing over rocks and elephants footsteps to my eyes, the G classes tires were much more agressive. personally I'd think that tall tires and raised suspension on stuff as steep as that looks like it makes it more dangerous as you're gonna be bouncing about much more. seeing as he G has diff loks all round, it should have wooped the Landy, but I guess it's just much heavier.

  • @mrdiavel4807
    @mrdiavel4807 5 лет назад

    G has three diff locks landy only one so the G should have been better but it all comes down to driver skill and tyres , tyres make up 50% of off road ability , you can have $150k Range Rover on normal tyres and a $5k Wrangler on mud terrains and the wrangler will slaughter the Range Rover off road even if your a crap driver .

    Il G ed il Patrol sono molto pesanti: sui ramponi questo crea qualche problema.
    Altra faccenda è la robustezza: il peso in più c'è per qualche motivo...

  • @L110508
    @L110508 12 лет назад

    I think the Landie does better because the G is over power, so difficult for the driver to control the wheel spin when hitting too much accelerator, while the landie driver just floor it and the power is just nice.

    defender wasnt stock and was lighter. also the tires had propably better tire pressure. there is no reason a defender would defeat a G. G classes have three differential locks, a defender has one. G is superior, no matter how much shit the guys in the comment section talk.
