I don't consider myself a world-class driver--which is why we sold our Audi Fox and bought the least expensive model of Isuzu Trooper in 1987. Have you seen where a base model '87 Isuzu Trooper can go, even with such a klutz as I am at the wheel?!!
Because it was the most modified vehicle in the video. The Humvee was the closest 2 bone stock then the defender then the Disco. The Disco use multiple camera angles and multiple edits so we don't know if that was the actual climb or not. The other two vehicles used one camera angle.
Love the sound of mine i upgraded ny exhaust to the magnaflow aftermarket exhaust and it sounds even better. Thats the real v8 in the discovery unlike the defender thats a diesel hiding under a fake v8 sticker in this video
@@reds7vn644 you can tell pretty clearly by matching up where the two camera guys are standing that they're just editing the boring bits out and that it's all one run, even the other two cars had a couple edits in their runs.
Well. Had no doubt about Hummer but its really hard for me to swallow a Defender being beaten by Disco! Well done and though the terrain doesn't appear as dramatic as some of those rocky ones, yet everyone knows this is the hardest to negotiate with that loose bottom.
Yes it's very loose and very steep. The video really doesnt show how loose it is. As for disco v defender i guess this is one of the times the wheel speed of the petrol v8 ia an advantage.

We spent our 5th wedding anniversary in Australia and Tasmania. We rented a Nissan Patrol in Tasmania and drove that thing places I didn't think I vehicle would go. Rental brochure said I had it had to be a road, they didn't say what kind :) We spent about 45 minutes power washing it the night before we left. I was so impressed with that truck as it rode nice on the highway got decent fuel mileage and was a beast on some of those trails. We met a lot of really nice people there. The only issue was that every hotel room we rented was freezing, we didn't stop at chains hotels though. The last room we rented didn't get above 10-12 C think the heater was broken, still it was a lot of fun and can't wait to go back.
Having driven both whilst i was serving, Land rover all the way :). Those deep ruts will stop just about anything not 'tracked'. lol. Awesome stuff. Cheers for sharing.
The Hummer has lots of low down torque, those wheels were going to keep turning, the Discovery relied on lots of revs, does it have a low ratio? The Defender was defeated by lack of power, as it had similar suspension set up to the Disco, though in LR, ah, never mind.
Go for a good old land rover discovery series 300. Reliable durable and easy to repair. Great fun at affordable prices, depending on your location of course.
Camera doesn't do justice to the slope but a LR 90 might have fared better by virtue of the shorter wheelbase. Like to see a Unimog or Pinzgauer have a go though.
Can't help but think if the Defender was over one way or another by just an inch or two it might have worked. So close. I've seen a lot of cars fail, followed by another that is just slightly different, make it through; then the first car tries another line, and walks through without any problem. Other than the wide wheel track on the Hummer, one of the major differences was his ability to simply hold power on and allow the tires to just work and work and work. The Defender simply does not have the power for that. I could be mistaken, but both the Hummer and the Disco seemed like they were automatics, which in a situation like this, would be a lot easier. The Disco approached the problem differently than the other two.
all cars are very impressive, nice video and respect to the drivers! What do you think about the Mercedes G in this situation? greetings from germany, Ronny
The Disco driver made it because he/she was the only one with the stones to actually use the throttle. It was frustrating to see the two, otherwise capable vehicles, try to idle through an abstacle when a little throttle and momentum is all you need.
i was surprised the Disco made it up where the 110 didn't. my..... that Hummer sure had some hoops there, little wonder he made it up!! i'm not a fan of the Disco purely on reliability issues. still good to see it at work here though.
The way to successfully overpass that steepy slope of loose rocks and a deep hole in the middle is to avoid driving the front left tire into the hole and then forcing the motor to climb forward the heavy and unsteady vehicle out of the hole. Instead the driver ought to maneuver the tires so as to climb them over both sides of the hole, leaving the hole under the chasis and avoiding falling into it.
oldschoolgreentube Yeah its been converted. There are a handful of companies in Oz that do this job to comply them. You will also notice a few alpha bits added to this older model.

It is amazing how we are not looking at the hole being filled up with rocks to make it easier for the Hummer each time it failed. Look back at the start of the Hummer going at it and again at the time it made it up. The hole looks a lot more filled in. I looked at this a few times. I do a lot of off road driving. I could have got the Defender up there with the same help the Hummer had. .. For those who have a keen eye. You would have noticed the hole was filled in for the hummer. :)

Keeping momentum is the key.
