    • @kb5509
      @kb5509 Месяц назад +12

      Would they hire a manager with little to no success at a major club? Yes, they've done it multiple times. Only in England do you have to have competed for major league titles and or the Champions League to get a decent club job. Also helps if you're from an in vogue foreign country. Which is why there'll never be a top England manager again, because the English managers that could be that aren't any chances to prove it.
      Even if you only look at managers that have only had success at international level, they've all done it. Rijkaard, Lopetegui and Klinsmann only had managed international teams. Big European clubs don't misplace so much emphasis on the manager, which is why theirs get a chance and England's don't.

      He became a good right back. The first few years he wasnt very good. Obviously wasnt good enough to play his preferred position at CB. Fergie just seemed to stick anyone in at RB. Paul parker was good enough for CB, so put him RB. As mentioned there with Keano, we'll stick you RB for a while. Phil nev, john o shea, wes brown, smalling all played quite a few games there. I think because a lot of those players could play other positions they became squad players. Gary wasnt good enough to play other positions so was left at RB (occassionally back in at CB if there were injuries).....If gary was playing RB for another club would United have signed him? I think Gary's take on which position is the most difficult is 100% spot on. GK and CF are both the two most isolated positions. CF you have to be insanely patient and, like he said, receive the ball with your back against play. GK you're inside your own head the entire game and have to be on it immediately when called upon, and every single mistake is scrutinized.

    I feel like I'm in an alternate universe. Southgate shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Man Utd. His credentials are underachieving with England and getting Middlesbrough relegated.

    • @Viewer41
      @Viewer41 Месяц назад +7

      Underachieving?
      England hadn't been to a Semi Final in 30 years.
      They hadn't been in a Final for 60 years.
      Also, Klopp got FSV Mainz 05 relegated from the Bundesliga and won NOTHING.
      Yet he still got the Dortmund job.
      Don't forget, Sven and Capello FAILED to get past the Quarters with a team full of Champions League winners. So Southgate has already done better than them.

    Daily Star is where the Southgate “rumour” comes from and then ends up getting discussed on here. Track the source… it’s literally a piece for reaction. United fans see it get annoyed, rival fans see it and laugh. Just using United to create noise during the international break.

    • @smsm-xb1lt
      @smsm-xb1lt Месяц назад +22

      True. I’m convinced they had the piece ready to go straight after the Liverpool game thinking Liverpool would win and Ten Hag would be sacked. SJR said yesterday on that Geraint Thomas podcast that Arsenal did well to give Arteta time… says a lot for his plans. 2 maybe 3 finals and a trophy in 2 seasons and a 63% win rate buys him a season under a proper structure for me.
