We should only stick with him if we play like we did against Liverpool for the rest of the season and get results. We’ve been terrible this season and he hasn’t been good enough and our style of play is a massive red flag for next season.
It would be great if the mainstream pundits actually knew what they were talking about. Forest had no squad after promotion. They also moved 40 players out over the next 2yrs, but no mention of that. The breach only happened because we didn’t take 17.5m less for Johnson, which only took 2 months longer. Gary is well off… he recons Forest spend and staying up isnt working… most of our best players in that side that got promoted were loanees. Not only did we have a poor squad by promotion standards… we then had half that squad disappear. We had half of a midtable Championship team upon arrival and stayed up with a game to spare. No parachute payments to get up and half the psr wiggle room of the rest of the league. It was VERY successful to stay up. You can’t look at everything from the eyes of a big club or an outlier like Brighton. That squad wasnt one of the best 3 in the champ at all… we had no parachute payments… and half the team vanished and we still stayed up. It was incredible if you give it full context. They signed a lot they should do xyz is so over simplified it begs belief.
Phew, I’m glad you’ve said this because it’s saved me a rant! 🤣 it gets boring the ignorance to the situation but I understand why it gets so easily criticised. Nobody mentions that after all that spending we still didn’t have a squad value in the first season that matched any of the top half of the table or that Leicester went down with a squad value that was twice ours was after all our signings! I think our squad value when promoted was around £15m or something like that 🤣
Cry me a fukn river. You had to cheat to stay up ?? Then you should have spent within the rules, been relegated, strengthened with parachute payments and tried for promotion again … you know, like every other promoted team ?
Wdym “parachute payments” you just got promoted, you got given all the money from premier league tv rights etc. no one forced you to rely on loan players for promotion, or forced you to sell other first team players, and spent £200 million on like 16 new players
Too bad. Nobody forced you to choose a squad full of loanees to get promoted from the Championship in the first place. You did that of your own volition. Luton barely have a squad fit for the Premier League but here they are, trying their asses off and putting in a good effort at surviving. There is zero reason you need to be buying 30 odd players in a season whatsoever. I can see 11-15 players in extreme situations but what actually happened is just bizarre.
@hoodyfrog7036 Ten Hag had nothing to do with finding Mainoo. He joined United at about 9 so credit Louis Van Gaal if anyone (even though it would have been nothing to do with him either so credit the youth scouts)
My view (and I may be completely wrong here but go with it), I think Ben simply decided to not put himself in a situation where he obviously isn't comfortable. I think it this was a qualifier international break, it would be different. I think he looked at it as 2 non important friendlies, getting ready for a tournament that he probably wouldn't be picked for so why risk an injury or similar. I think he simply put club football above friendlies with an England team that wasn't even close to full strength for these games.
So grateful to have Clive on to represent us. It's not vibes with him it's solid facts, represented fairly, and with an authentic insight that isn't afraid to go against the narrative we all get fed.
These top games are very rarely won by the away team. In the history of Pep vs Klopp in the Premier league in front of fans, the away team has NEVER won. You then add Arsenal in this season and still no away team has won away against another top team. Pundits like to do lots of bluster because they are paid to provide insight but I feel these games are decided by something as simple as home vs away.
Gary has answered his own question where Forest are concerned. It isn't on Forest, it's on the league and what's at stake for staying in the league much less trying to break into the top six. Easy for Gary to throw stones from the cheap seats when Forest are going to do whatever they can to stay in the league. It isn't Forest, or Everton or Leicester. It's on the Premier League and their allowing it to get where it is today.
The story was something like Holland asked walker a tactical question about city in the run in and walker gave a detailed answer. Then he asked White what went wrong for Arsenal in the run in. White said he didn’t know. Holland used that response as an excuse to try and humiliate White in front of the squad by questioning his professionalism and whether he even cares about football (referencing an interview he once said they didn’t watch football on tv in his house growing up). This has put them offside with each other and White knows they aren’t going to play him. Holland’s characterisation flies in the face of everything that all of White’s coaches have said about him in the past and his professional pride. Southgate then given a choice between resolving the issue or letting it lay for the time being, decided to protect Holland and throw White under the bus in front of the media. Terrible leadership
Trippier made a few mistakes and everyone's forgotten how good he is. 10 assists this season and he locked up Mbappe twice. Last year was the main creator in Newcastle's top 4 team and got Premier League TOTY. Before that was the catalyst in Newcastle staying up. Before that he won La Liga with Atleti and got in their TOTY.
Trippier takes every set piece for newcastle, which is why he has 10 assists. Defensively he has been poor, and hes old now so its unlikely he will recover his form. Its not like reece james, whos only 24 and is recovering from a long term injury, so will go on to be the best english right back
That is the most balanced, reasonable, and accurate discussion of Spurs' problem I've heard in a long while. Neville spot on - we need to occasionally do what Liverpool/Arsenal do and spend big on huge players that change our club. If we don't do that, we'll never progress - we need a midfielder really, we need to go and make a statement signing like De Jong for 100+ million (won't happen) but Levy has not got that in him
Spurs had CL money for years and never went truly big on any single transfer. Arsenal get back in the CL for the first time in 7 yrs and they paid West Ham £50m last summer and £50m this upcoming summer to get Rice. The idea of Levy doing that to sign a £100m player is laughable.
Ben White is a big loss mainly because of his link up with Saka, they play week in week out have a really good understanding and support each other, even if the other players are technically better they don't offer that element
The thing with international breaks is that because England usually qualify without a bother, people just take it for granted. If your national team doesn't steamroll through qualifying, international football is absolutely brilliant and so thrilling. So many games really matter and when you get excited about almost all of your national team's games, even friendlies are something to look forward to.
Southgate won’t play that midfield, he said after the game it felt too open for him. How can a midfield of Bellingham, mainoo and rice be unbalanced? Any good manager would love that trio and make it work easily. Henderson will start most games.
I know we all complain about Man City, Chelsea, Forrest and Everton about breaking FFP rules, but surely you should not be allowed have debts like Man Utd of 750 million under FFP rules either, that needs to be seriously looked into and I've heard the Utd waffle about it's been there before FFP but surely it still shouldnt be allowed be in a club debt as its not for as Gary says a stadium or training ground module, so Utd need docking too...

Can people not see Ben whites point even if he gets selected for england its clear southgate picks favourites so he knows no matter what as soon as james and walker are fit he dosent play
The Gary O'Neil mention is related to Mitchell Van Der Gaag could potentially be going back to manage Ajax. United would look to replace him with a good first team coach.
Clive is the perfect representative for Arsenal on this show. Top top analysis and brings nuance to the convo that usually lost with these show. Keep him!
Just a little reminder… even if Arsenal Lose today, they would’ve only dropped 4 points in 4 games to Liverpool and City. 2 wins and a draw as it stands before kick off. Why is this not being spoken about more? The West Ham, Newcastle and Villa losses can happen to you in a season. But only taking a point from Fulham, when we were 1-0 up in both games, is criminal. Win that one 3 months ago and beating both Liverpool and Cigy actually have meaning.
Gary, if you're going to ask someone a question. Can you not at least allow that person to actually answer rather than interrupting them after about four words? That isn't a debate.

3rd or 4th based totally on name, not displays this season. Walker getting older and not as great as he was, same for tripper, was good last season. Trent isn't a better right back than White, but better creatively. White can overlap, invert and cover at centre back. White walks into this squad and should be 1st choice RB.
@@antonyrainsbury4333 that’s ludicrous. You’re purely looking at Walker based on googling his age. Yes he’s getting older (that’s how time works) but he’s not showing it. He’s still one of the quickest players in the league and easily clear of White.
Trent is also clear by a margin. His defensive game has improved dramatically this season and he’s looked solid but going forward he is miles ahead.
Trippier is showing his age a tad. Last season he’d have also been clear of White but this season I’d probably say White is just ahead. Same for Reece James really. He’s a much better player but injuries bring him down.
I can easily see how you could make him 3rd choice. 1st choice is crazy to me. He would play in either that Man City or Liverpool teams (or the Arsenal team if you had all your players fit)

@@Aus_BladeWe didnt cheat to stay up, we were only over the limit for 2 months in July & August this season.

Football is a business now with a lot of money pumped in and a lot in stake.
That’s an unfortunate fact.
Clive really knows his stuff!! Great person to represent us Gooners.
You English fans are so lucky to have a civilized debate about football. Thanks to the fans, Carragher and Neville.
The rules are ridiculous. The transfer window cannot be different from the psr deadline...
Baz should be a third host of this show, up the Toffee TV
Bloody hell clive tell us what happened with Ben White. Im not paying to read the Telegraph
Lmfao right? Was like he was doing an ad for them. Someone should have prompt him.

If we don't do that, we'll never progress - we need a midfielder really, we need to go and make a statement signing like De Jong for 100+ million (won't happen) but Levy has not got that in him
Don’t be silly - a player of his calibre will never join Spurs
Spurs had CL money for years and never went truly big on any single transfer. Arsenal get back in the CL for the first time in 7 yrs and they paid West Ham £50m last summer and £50m this upcoming summer to get Rice. The idea of Levy doing that to sign a £100m player is laughable.
