The crime rate in that neighborhood is lower than the national average.

Great job London Breed! Crime is absolutely out of control in this city and your solution is to add housing that’ll probably be $3,500 a month rent for a cardboard box sized room.
Heartwarming story. Safeway looking out for its customer's safety by shutting it down so thieves can't rob it no more. Well done SF and California.
Not saying socal is that much better but we aren’t like those animals in SF/Oakland.
"Criminals" didn't kill this store, Safeway management did; fact is, nobody was shopping there because of its filthy conditions, high prices and obnoxious employees. It was like a ghost town in there. More to the point, what this video DOESN'T tell you is that it is the THIRD grocery store to fail in that location; previously it was a Cala and had another name before that. So it's probably time to make the place into something other than a burial ground for poorly-run food stores.
Amusingly, this will cause the reported crime rate to drop and leaders will pat themselves on the back for it.
@@user-xg8ue7wk7z You're contradicting yourself. If three grocers failed then it's much less of a Safeway problem and more of a crime and neighborhood problem.
@@user-xg8ue7wk7z I'll bite, High prices were due to high taxes and high employee health care and high losses of product. I assume you have never run a business with full time employees (and tried to at least break even)?

I think more businesses need to shut down and move out of the city so these politicians get off their asses and start enforcing the laws. We've been too soft on crime and have made this city too inviting for homeless to live off our tax dollars. I don't mind giving a helping hand in need but you really can't keep giving handouts indefinitely. There has to be a timeline given for people receiving welfare or whatever assistance there is to get off whatever drugs they're on, look for a job, and get off the assistance. If the person does find a job but tries to game the system by quitting to get back on assistance then provide assistance by calculating how long they've held onto the job. If they've worked 30 days then that should be credit for 2 days to a week for further assistance if they lose their job.
Unfortunately there isn't a time machine for people too old to walk 3 miles to a store and 3 miles back. The crime is an excuse to favor real estate interests and $. Fewer stores means more cars and pollution. How did people become so inhumane.
@@Jesse-gr2xo So what is your solution then? Keep the store open and keep losing inventory and money? How do incidents affect the shoppers who have to shop there and witness such incidents? No one wants to be inhuman to another person, but things have been out of control for such a long time in this city. It's not normal and even though the same thing is happening in various cities throughout the US, we should never call it normal and no amount of financial inequality should be used as an excuse and justification for what is going on. At some point things need to reset and start over.

The rampant theft and threatening behavior is what’s sad news, citizens like you don’t take a hard stance against the subhuman behavior in these areas and then you act like it’s sad a company responds accordingly and leaves because they can’t run a clean honest business in a plagued area where no one cares about crime and bad behavior. Good for them for leaving and taking a stand against the Bay Area being so passive about subhuman behavior
Yea, perfect business model. Build a business in the exact same spot someone else’s business was stolen into bankruptcy .

@max420thc What is "stolen into bankruptcy?"
Do you think that any other Grocery Store Executives (or even Trader Joes) are going to open a store after Safeway closed due to theft and operating losses (or low operating profits)?
a grocery store in "nearby" Hayes Valley? not nearby if you're walking
Where was this outrage when people were stealing? The outrage should start with the politicians who contributed to the tolerance of lawlessness all over SF
