I used to be a hard core into Catfishing in the late 70s every day after school then in the 80s got a job got married had kids then fishing kinda got in the back of the line. Just up the French Broad from the forks there is a bridge that goes over to a boat maker on Pickel Island. When the stripes were running we would go to that bridge and slay them. White grubs and Roostertails. We caught skipjack, too. We didn't know what skipjack were. We just called them green shad and threw them back. lol I saw you went up past there. I swear you have fished in so many places I used to fish 50 years ago. I enjoy the heck out of going with you.

My favorite fish are the ones I am catching... Just got back from the coast... no pompano... no specks,... no redfish... Who cares, I had a blast catching Gafftopsails. The moments we have are almost always better than the ones we don't.
Dave, I always have good luck with rooster tails. Always have a couple of white ones in different weights. Chartreuse is another good color. Rooster tails are great for sandbass and even hybrid stripers here at Norfork Lake and trout for the White River.

Hey Catfish, do you ever fish live bait? Those small white bass look to be the perfect size! As my dad used to say, “when the birds are singing, the fish are biting. Get your pole boy.” He’s been gone 35 years now and he was my bestest fishing buddy! That was before electric motors and I’d rather paddle and watch him than fish myself. I wish we’d had GoPro back then. He could have put Bill Dance and Jimmy Houston to shame and I’d be a millionaire 😂! Keep ‘em coming. In my experience there's only 2 times fish you want bite. Before you get there and after you leave....

I'm coming to Barkley mid month for bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill, and shellcracker. Lived there as a kid and wanna relive good times!

I used to fish white bass. I would use a plunker with a 2ft leader and a larger white fly or rooster tail. I would slay them in the shad pools.

1/4oz white or yellow rooster tail is what you need for them white bass.
