To hell with that drumshield.
The couple and their cats made my day enough. 👏😍👍👍👍
Haha! Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😁
The main purpose of drum shield in studii is not to be quiet in room, but to isolate reflections from room when recording it
Very well said! I made a similar point regarding their usefulness in recording situations towards the end of the video for those interested. The problem is however that drum shields are often marketed as a solution to loud drums and people end up spending a bunch of money on something that doesn't fix their problem. And I've seen a few "tests" claiming these reduce 10-20db so I decided to check it out myself
That’s why many people use pads around the drums as well
this was so informative and your cats are hilarious!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
We went full Myth Busters on this one. Drop a Like & Sub for the epic cats 😻
Took me seconds to like the video because of the cats! And it was very informative too, double like!
Cheers! Here's a little secret: it's actually the cats' channel 😹
Always thought the shield was to refuce the db to the listeners in the crowd who would not be hearing the flow over volume from the top if it like the persons on stage as well doing a better of reduction in delayed reflections to the drummer & bleed over to open mics on bkth sides of the shield. Never thought it was meant for recording since bleed over would still be present in the tracks, but not so much in a live situation to the listeners.
I'd love for you to do another test with a live band in the room. You're one of only two videos that has anything to do with this specific product on RUclips and I want to also have one in my practice space to try and get cleaner recordings overall.
I'd do it, but I sold the drum shield. I used it a couple of times and it turned out to be more trouble than it's worth for my personal needs (your mileage may vary). For rehearsals it didn't do much and it created a barrier between the drummer and the rest of the band, which most musicians weren't keen on. And for recording live bands, it's easier for me to isolate the guitars, bass and the vocals from the drums with the way this studio is setup

That drummer is CRAZY. I'm going to steal his style!! (If I can)
He is a badass! Good luck!
Great job, and very entertaining.
Thank you! 🙏
Thank you!
Fantastic video, love your methodology and your attention to detail. I wonder how much is the sound spilling out over the top?
We might have to make an air tight one and feed oxygen through a tube for our drummer 😂
Glad you like the video! It's mostly cymbals that spill over the top. The biggest reduction you get is for the kick. Basically you get way less shells than cymbals. A sealed room with an air tube for the drummer sounds like an amazing idea 😂
Great video!
Thank you. Very useful and informative video. Sounds like you can't beat a proper isolation booth for recording. Or, use electronic drums and headphones. This product is way too expensive to be just maybe OK but only slightly quieter for live rehearsals. Drummer could use baffles, mufflers or soft sticks like 'bundles', but you lose that real drum sound and feel. No easy solution. Then you have also got to deal with the guitar amps . . . . . . . . .
I personally always use ear plugs for rehearsals and in-ear monitors are good too. Most bands that come through are totally fine with that and anyone who isn't, has to deal with the pain 😂 That shield is long gone
To minimize volume you need full enclosure
What was the substance applied on the edges before installing the hinges?
It was soap iirc, but it didn't do much good.. just more to clean up after
Rubbing alcohol works great as a lubricant and evaporates so no cleanup. Laying the panels on their side facing up, then tapping the hinge onto the panel side starting with one end and working your way down is a lot easier. Then the next panel stands up on it's side parallel with the previous panel and hinge, more rubbing alcohol, fold the hinge over to the new panel and tap it on from one end to the other.
May I suggest Astro-glide or KY jelly?
Thank you for saving me about 500e!
great video, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Put a top and back in place and you will have a lot of isolation if that is what you are trying to achieve.
Good job guys
Hi, would you say this drum shield is worth it ? Looking to buy for a church. It is half the price of the clearsonic drum shield that’s why we are thinking of getting it. Would you say the quality of it is good, as in the durability and would you say it’s effective at reducing the sound or should I go for the clearsonic ? What’s ur opinions
Make sure to watch the whole video and you'll see exactly how effective it is. The durability seems to be ok. If it's worth it or not mainly depends on what you need it for. It can help with the bleed for recording purposes and you may get some extra volume without feedback on a few mics when doing live sound. If you only want to reduce the drum volume overall, I'd look into other solutions
@@Garnoo I see, that makes sense. Yeah mainly we just want to reduce drum volume but mainly for the first few rows as we use a small venue that seats about 50 people on average. It would be great to reduce the volume as a whole in the room but if it can reduce the volume for people near it in particular, like the rest of the band and the first 3 rows then I’d be more than happy. We normally have about 12 rows split into 2 so 6 on one left side and 6 and right side in the room and 5 seats each row so you have a rough idea of how small the room is.
@@rnalmighty733 did you find a solution?
isn't that a reduction of the overall sound, that -4db drop. the band need not be so loud to get the same group sound on a stage. and as the drummer is isolated inside his enclosure, he can hear his drum set without a delay
or the room reflecting a echo and the band will be quiter for him as well just a small speaker cab inside his
aquarium to get rid of any room verb he'll always be in the sweet spot
and he'll never be dragging or running the beat off tempo become a metronome perfect machine maybe
and save everyone's hearing in the bargain
Pisici!
Good video very interesting 🤘👍
Thank you! 🤘
Slightly wet it so it’s not so dry when sliding those in
Awh puddy cats ❤
I deleted the footage !!!!!! xD
Nooo, I did!! :))
I see T.Akustik cat :D
shoulda ran a light coat of Vaseline along edges of panels🙄
you 2 are killing me think about it. assembly isn't that hard
I've assembled other drum shields before this one with no issues. It's supposed to be very easy, yet somehow it took several hours because the design wasn't working as intended. I call it like I see it, I'm not here to lie or mislead people.

@@Garnoo Asa e, gasesti DIY mult mai ieftin si poate cu acelasi rezultat.
Iti iei electronice :)))
These ridiculous contraptions are an unnecessary waste of space and look horrible! I've seen many bands over the years and none needed these.I play guitar, not drums, but if i did i would pretty quickly demolish,if they tried to put me behind one. Also, what happens with a drummer who suffers from claustrophobia!!😊
I could have done without the lady yelling like she’s crazy
