I was 18 in 1988 and moved to LA for a short time, and my first stop was going down to the strip. It was way more hectic along the sidewalks (every night) than what you were experiencing. The vibe was amazing and the women - dear lord! It was a great time.
Wish I was 18 at that time! Totally would’ve moved to LA at that time, and I would go to all the clubs where all the bands would play during the hair metal!
Born and raised in Birmingham U.K. I still can't believe that I actually played at the legendary Whisky A Go Go on New Year's Eve the last TWO years! Both times opening for my favorite band L.A. Guns. Always gotta go to the Rainbow and have a Jack and Coke on each visit of course!
I can’t believe i am just seeing this video. Dagan, i grew up on those streets in the 80’s. I filled in for guitar techs for bands like Warrant, LA Guns, Shark Island, XYZ. Gazzarri’s was our home base and the Rainbow was where we all met at the end of the night. You keep that magic alive man. THANK YOU.
Another iconic place on The Strip back in the day which NO one seems to mention leaves me to question is "Rock n Roll Denny's." That place after a gig & the bars & clubs shut down was off the hook for sure! Crazy Daze WOW!
I waa a Rainbow regular from 75. Spent 100s of hours on the dance floor. Then cruising the Strip to Ben Franks and rock and roll Dennys. Those were the nights!
Entirely too many Strip stories to get into here so I’ll keep it to just a few. When I was 15 I somehow managed to get myself into the Roxy (and get a wristband for drinks lol) to see a very young Doug Aldrich play with his band Lion. I was just getting into hard music and absolutely blown away. Been a huge fan of Doug’s ever since. So that was my gateway drug to the Strip and 80’s rock. Saw LA Guns, Stryper, GnR, Enough Z Nough, Warrant, on and on at the Whiskey. My mom and dad met at the Whiskey at a Doors show! Hung out with Nickleback at the Rainbow when my BFF was their front of house mixer and touring with them. Saw Billy Duffy play at the Viper Room. So many memories. So the Strip is a special place for sure. Oh, and RIP to the House of Blues sunset as well. Fantastic venue that’s gone. Glad you had a great trip here to our little town! ;)
Love your channel been watching for about 4 years? something around that time I had just retired at 56 so I can still enjoy life like play my Gibson Les Paul Standard a retirement gift to myself I've been playing since I was 14 now I have time,I've wanted to check out Sunset Blvd in the 80s and never made the seen isn't like it was back then and the music has changed also
Smashing to see the excitement in both of you!! Gazzari the old man & his hat had his own table at the rainbow. best of times on the strip in the 80's magical
Great video dude. As a kid in the eighties I dreamed of visiting places like the Rainbow. They were iconic places and symbolic of everything that was cool about metal. 🤘😎🤘
I've been to all those locations. Growing up in San Bernardino we had access to the strip. Things have changed so much. Be careful out there and have fun!
Spent much of my youth in the 80s on the Strip, and the Rainbow was the center of it all. The ensemble of important locations on the Strip were The Whiskey, up to the Roxy, then the Rainbow, to Gazzarri's, which is no longer there; but those four locations where the place to be in the 80s metal scene.
Very well done video. Would have been much better if we could have seen the inside of each place in the video. Something at least I have not seen on youtube. Then it would have been awesome ! Could have also been used for promotional video? I am sure each establishment would have let you in for free? Over all very well done. Maybe I should do it? lol. Never been to hollywood.
Thats strange you didnt take your camera inside. All of these are really small places so it would only take you a couple of minutes to walk through each
I've been to the strip. It was less impressive than where I came from. I have no idea why people revere it. Almost every major American city has a better club street.

I'd be interested in seeing Kix, on the Whiskey marquee.
It is said that each year, Lemmy spent nine months touring and three months sat in the Rainbow on the slot machine.

Nice review, thank you
Epic serie
You would have been the absolute number one host for MTVs Headbanger’s Ball.
Social Distortion's only official release live album is Live at the Roxy
Yungblud played all Venus in one night
