I get that a lot. Everytime I go near the tank,my clown fish, Japanese swallow tail angel, always swim towards me like telling me give me food. I will give them since they ask for it but they dun stop asking. End up i always overfeed them. They are big liars.
My tank is in my bedroom, and I can't move without them going mental wanting a feeding. Have been overfeeding them because I felt guilty letting them down, but no more, they're liars! :)
My fish are like that as well. As soon as I go in the room. They get excited cos they think it's feeding time . I try not to over feed them. But I want to make them happy. It's my angel fish that are the liars .
Apparently long term exposure to fish tank water is actually the fountain of youth!! You haven't change a minute ❤️ I really like seeing how far you have come! Gorgeous tanks and fabulous info.
Thank you! Very helpful, I am always concerned I’m not feeding my bettas enough but you actually have real information beyond “what they can consume in a few minutes”
"They're not hungry. They're liars." Perfect! I overfed in the beginning because I'm gullible and I also love to eat. My tanks are cleaner and require less frequent cleaning now that they're not eating everytime I do! Lol
I love what you said at the end of the video, how many times have I fallen for that, only to find more poop & old fish food at the bottom of the fish tank.... no more, no matter how much you look at me with your excited to see me look & behaviour when I approach the fish tank, less is definitely MORE.
I know this video is old, but you guys always have the best answers. My tank has 1 Betta 10-12 (cause there hard to count) Green Neon Tetras 3 Black Neon Tetras 2 Speckled Cory Cats 2 Panda Cory Cats 3 Otos 3 Mystery Snails Everyone's getting along great (The Betta feeds the Tetra's, by biting the algae wafers when they get soft and spits it to the Tetra's 😂) but everyone eats at there own pace, and it's hard to tell if everyone is getting what they need, and advice? Like how long do I wait for the snails and oto's to eat the wafer? When do I call it and pull it out. Also when I feed them Zucchini how long should I leave it in the tank? Do I drop a sinker for each Cory or do I do like 1 for 2. I have a lot of anxiety (in general), and I want to give my fish the best that I can but I'm always worried I'm missing something. Please, and help or advice would be wonderful 💞
I am in Texas and have 15 tanks. I can really appreciate the time it takes to feed that many tanks and even longer when you Video it. Would like too see a Vid of you cleaning all those tanks. Now that's some work I bet.
They are so cute swimming around with the krill in their mouths. You have a small guy in there with the arowanas that looks like he may be having a hard time getting the krill down. He may need something smaller. However, I know I'm not perfect lol and I haven't been keeping fish long so I could be wrong. Just something to check just in case. Great video and now I think I overfeed my guppies!
Fish are like my dogs begging for extra cookies after they've had full meals for the day, lol. Such little liars trying to convince everybody that they're poor starving critters. Great video, Lisa. Somewhat better...How dare you! I love your videos. 👍💕👍
My betta is such a glutton lol. I got sinking crab pellets for the mystery snail and tried to distract him with his own floating pellets but he dove down for the crab pellet, swallowed it whole, tried to chew it, then spat it out lol. He also tried eating snail poop because it probably looked like a worm and he spat it out and sucked it back in about 20 times before he left it alone
I really liked this video it was informative and what I was looking for. Y’all stank are gorgeous! Your planted betta sorority community tank may was my favorite! Thank you for the video and keep it up!
Fish vet made what i feel to be a valid oint when he said that the trend went from overfeeding to underfeeding our fish. I personally keep a close eye on it and feed small amounts twice a day just to try and make sure every fish gets his fill
This was a great help! I’ve read varying info and seen videos that don’t explain well. Thanks for the tips! My family and I have gotten into the hobby recently, there is so much to learn. 😅
I am so off to watch all the older videos, as I need to absorb all the information your content is amazing, yes your a natural now, but hay everyone has to learn, so do I as new to fish keeping x Thank you, for every thing you do, just wish there was new content from KG everyday, Love from the UK x
Great job! Of course, impossible to show every situation, but you gave enough examples - and showed them - so that hopefully everyone can adapt your advice to their own fish and tanks.
in a large community tank, I'd recommend feeding both a sinking and a floating item at the same time, at least for one feeding a day, and add it evenly across the width of the tank. Perhaps one pinch on the left, right, and center. This is especially important if you have territorial fish in your tank who will guard "their" food source from others (Discus are notorious for this). But that way, it ensures everybody has a chance to get some food. With a bigger community tank, it's actually better to feed a bit more heavily, imo, and just ensure you clean more regularly.
Thank you for this video feeding has been a complete unknown .. I have over fed for fear of under feeding. I have seen else where that feeding frozen peas can be good for cichlids also spinach what do you think about these?
At a certain point all aquariums are different. All my aquariums require different ways of feeding. My large Angel tank. At feeding at night they git 6 cubs if blood worms about the same amount in beef hart and bring shrimp. I make this food myself. But there is also 60 Cody’s for one hundredTetras. Plus it a very densely planted tank. It took a while to figure out how to handle that tank. It’s beautiful it’s a great dark water tank with a dirt substrate 3” deep 1” cap of gravel I’ve found this works best for me. With that said it gets a 50% water chance a week. And the bottom stays very clean and water perimeters are always good. But it took some experience to get it straight. My heavily planted dirt tanks always gave a better balance. My 10 gal Bettas tanks can go on for month without a water change. I just need to keep the them vacuumed. There is no standard for feeding. They tell you the amount the fish can clear in 5 minutes. My juvenile Mollies can consume a large can in 3 minute. Though that’s about 300 of them. Feeding is learned I over feed some tanks on purpose like my barbs. As long as your doing competent maintenance you’re good. Something I think would be a good topic would be how the grow and make your own foods. It took me a long time to figure it all years ago and that was before the internet. I save hundreds on foods. Some simple like frozen beef heart. Some harder like worms.
We have a BN pleco in with our community tank. Even after we feed the group (more than I should be after watching this), they still go after the food I through in for the pleco. It's in with parrots, Angel's, congo tetras, etc, and they all go after the wafers or bug bites we throw in. Any way to try to avoid that, or is it time to remove her from that tank?
When I had a hair algae problem in my tank I took the advice of an older guy who worked and my local chain lfs and had obviously been in the hobby for decades. He told me every other day was ample because after all, they don't get 3 squares meals a day in the wild. 😊 My fish are now 4 years old and looking great. And yes, I've learned fish are absolutely capable of giving you the 'stink eye' when their pleas for food go ignored. 🤣
Hey lesia, great video i have something funny for you. Some people tell me fish are stupid. I then tell them, did you know fish own 70% of the earth. About 70% of of the earths surface is water
I like the way she goes over the material too. I feel like I'm being educated and not preached at. Please no offense. I love your husband too but you just present in a way that is humble which people watching RUclips like.
So i just got a tank and single micky tailed platy fish for Christmas. Ive been told to feed him a pinch of flake food once every 2 days. Does this sound like enough? The friend who gifted me the fish said he will eat the pinch and on the second day scavenge for any uneaten food. I also keep a lot of live plants and he seem to like nipping at them as well However even tho i have a small tanks and only only one small platy, am i underfeeding him?
Now that I think of it, anytime I have seen fish in the wild, they have been treading water or simply swimming around. They're not gorging on some food source. You are right, they're Liars. They don't need to eat every few hours, they just want to.
I am such a sucker. I try to feed every other day (a mix of nutritious foods). I start off really restrained... then I get worried about my smaller peaceful guys as the tangs are pigs. Or I think that feeding the tangs everyday will keep them from being a nuisance to anyone. But then if I’m feeding the tangs I feel bad for the others... Last night I turned on my pump and wave maker after feeding and realized how much uneaten food was blowing around. I ended up holding a very fine mesh net in front of the wavemaker for a while and extracted more gunk than I care to admit. I might put a sign above our tank reading “The fish aren’t starving. They’re liars”.
Not only have you gotten better in front of the camera but in my opinion hotter! Not trying to be sexist or rude, just observant. Oh, and yeah my fish lie to me every day. Especially my Betta George. Every time I feed him he looks at me like he's saying "finally"!
That video had been on my mind alot lately. I knew it was horrible and feel better that I redid it. Looking at video #2 next lol and the best part is making fun of myself because it really was bad 🤣

I agree. There’s no way you have teenage kids. ;-)
🥰
Ohhhh, so that's why I look like I'm 12!
Liar!
Make a shirt that says fish arent hungry, they are liars
I agree. They love putting on the
"We're Starving" act..lol. It's tough to resist. Nowadays, I skip a day.
My Bettas love doing that. They know exactly where the food drops in and will swim there when ever I pass by like they're starving.

Less is best...is true. But best is best is also true. Most is NEVER true.
Good grief!!! I’m sooooo over feeding!! Thank you so much for this video.
Very few aquarium fish have ever starved. The opposite is the number one problem for rookie keepers.
And those that have are bottom feeders that people don't think about feeding

Hey Lisa! Loved watching your first YT video! I understood your message that "less is more!" I follow that rule and my beta is doing great now! 😄👍🏼✌️

Great video 👍
Curious about that community tank. I thought betas were supposed to be solitary but it looks breathtaking! Would love to hear more about what's in there and why it works out! Great vid thanks!
Bettas can be in community tanks, it just depends on their temperament
Generally female bettas can be kept with smaller schooling fish. But it doesn't always work out and you gotta do research on tank sizes and fish compatibility before hand.
simple thanks x
Thanks for the pointers.
I have a snakehead,Oscar and a bichir in my tank they eat twice a day for the Oscar and the bichir 10 feeder fish for breakfast 15 for dinner . And for my snakehead 2 catfish a day,1 for breakfast and 1 for dinner

@KGTropicals, can you do a video on what chemicals you use with routine water changes if you use any at all, I have started using stuff likes stress coat, or prime when I do my water changes and I wanted to know if those chemicals are necessary or not after a water change? Hey John just wondering how many kilos or pound of gravel I need for a 55 gallon
go to your local petstore for that answer!

I have snails in my community tank. Should I do anything more for them? Thanks for the info.
Only video so far in which I absolutely LOVED Lisa! Keep up the good work and you should do more solo videos! And so should John!

I find this so confusing can you clarify, i use a pinch a day, i have at times done 2 but some have died and im sure this is from overfeeding, so once decent pinch a day should be enough for 125 tank with approx 12 fish in also when using tap safe during water changes is one cup in each bucket of water enough or too much as this is also so confusing, please let me know as this is driving me crazy, thanks, lee
Where would you guys purchase a container of JumboKrill for the Oscars/Arowana?
John purchased the can of Krill in the video on Amazon.
What is the exact kind of krill or brand, that you feed the oscars and arowana? Im interested to get it for my Oscars and Datniods.
I recognise the can as Tetra Jumbo Krill.
Great video. I loved it.
OMG that OB was amazing!!!! Wow !! Skittles my ass!!! This OB you have is so beautiful ❤❤❤💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽🤗🤗🤗
What size( in oz) container is that krill you feed the arowanas
Hey, not sure if you'll read this or even reply. But I watch yall videos About fish and aquariums so I thought you know. I don't have any other options. My tropical fish is eating the pebbles. I put at the bottom of the aquarium and she's got a whole belly full. Is this normal?
I have a question for John, why would a male and female African peacock cichlid “lip lock” or “jaw lock”?
Great job Lisa!
