Very helpful video. I had to remove seats from a Transit that had a cargo wall right behind the seats. The zip tie/ screw drive technique solved the problem, even while having to do it from the front of the seats. Thanks!!
Great video..Boy you guys made it look easy..We have the same van..and removing the seats was a true test of our "old" ..muscles..😂..Looking forward to watching your van videos..Thanks for sharing 🤗
And oh yeah - Thank you :) Excellent info!!!!!! Thinking of buying one of these. I like the windows in the passenger vans for traveling with 2 big dogs that can't jump very well and would end up on the ground level. Would hate for them to miss the countryside. Working this issue out.
Hey guys, just wanted to say thank you. The use of cable ties to remove the seats worked perfectly. We had an extra loose strap in the glove compartment which I then reinstalled to one of the rear seats, the other one is still gone (Previous owners lost it I guess), have to first get the seat up to reinstall the strap. Good tip on the cable ties for the belts as well and I already have that done. Just need to run to the store for a 55 Torx bit and I can remove the other two seats in the back and we'll have the cargo room that we need. Again, much appreciated. I'll give you a big thumbs up. Good luck on your adventures.
Howdy Y'all. I greatly enjoyed your video. Y'all seem like nice folks. My parents drove around the world in the 1950s - on a Vespa! - and the travel bug runs thick through my blood. Happy travels!
How fun! I cannot even imagine traveling on a Vespa...but wow, what an adventure that would be. I love to hear that the travel bug was passed on to you. I hope you get to have great adventures often :)
Thank you! We are so excited to see what happens with it too. What we want it to look like and how it turns out could be two completely different things. Haha
Awesome you got the seats out so quickly! Looked like it was fairly easy (cough cough). Haha. Zip ties and a screw driver for most of them. Who knew! Great job, Scotty and Malinda.
We were too excited to wait too long :) The seat removal is looking like it is the easiest part of the build. Haha We have been working on the bed platform build for a week! You know the old saying...measure 20 times, cut once? Lol We are making an extreme sport out of bed platform building. But hopefully it will be worth it when we finally finish :)
Great video. I removed the fourth row from my Transit years ago, but found this video when looking for help with something else. Entirely frustrating that it's so difficult to remove seats, especially the fourth row single seats due to seatbelts. Regarding the third row seats, there's typically a cover over that "wall bolt". It's not entirely intuitive on how to remove it and there is risk of damage, of course. Since I removed my fourth row with no intention of putting it back in until the vehicle is sold, I actually slid black laminate (2 plies) behind the sidewall to close out the gaping hole created by removing the seat belt retractor. I didn't want to put the massive closeout back in place because they just get in the way during loading/unloading. Maybe there's a flat closeout you can purchase from Ford since, I'm anticipating, they use the same interior sidewall panels for a 12 passenger configuration of the long wheelbase van? When removed, you still have to deal with the lugs that are above the flooring, making it difficult to just slide materials in the van without risk of damage to the material (thanks, Ford).
great video! would you know if any of the two bench seats would fit upfront where the front passenger seat is? just we need to fit three upfront, not two!
Great video. Thanks for posting it. Do you guys happen to know how much space is behind the second row bench seat? I want to do a camper build but I also want to have a safe spot for two car seats. Any info you can provide is greatly appreciated.
That could easily be done. We thought about leaving a bench seat also but it would not allow us to load the kayaks under the bed. We sold all of the seats. I wish we kept one set because they are so easy to remove.
@@davidwareham1460 There isn't much of a market for the seats. I posted them on Facebook. It took a few weeks to sell them. A family with several kids purchased a Transit turned into a camper. They wanted to turn it back into a passenger van.
I’m new to this - just picked up our 2017 long wheelbase wagon and removed the seats. I noticed it looks like you have a factory vinyl floor in a wagon model which I thought was interesting. Was that a standard option? I’d definitely purchase that from the dealer to replace this carpet but keep the vent and seat location cutouts.
You may not have the answer to this, but this is the van I am looking to buy and I was wondering if you could take that (3) seat row out (behind driver) and replace it with one of the double seats you pulled out from somewhere else? I have kids and need seats left in but don't want that long 3 seat bench as it just takes space.
Hello Elle B. I really think you should be able to according to measurements. You are not the first to ask us, so we have decided to do a video and show for sure. Hopefully that will be out in the next week or two. Thanks for watching :)
We sold ours. They were on Marketplace for a long time, but someone finally contacted us because they were converting a campervan back to a work van. I think we got lucky :D
One thing to watch for. On some of those transit vans the rear brakes go out prematurely. We get some at the shop less than 20k miles on them and the rear brakes went out and some the calipers destroyed themselves. I think its somewhere like the 17-19 model years but I think they fixed it in the 2020 model year.
Thanks for the heads up. We bought Big Tow from a fleet dealer, and it already had right at 100,000 miles on it. Hopefully it will hold up for a while for us. We will pay a little more attention if the rear brakes start to act up :)
Hi! We're looking to buy a van and do just this but I'm very curious to know what you did with all those seats once they were removed? Were you able to sell them?
So sorry to be this late! I have been out exploring in Missouri, and my TMobile service was pretty much non-existent :D This build was so much fun for us. We listed the seats on FB marketplace and they sat there for a long time. I can't remember our original asking price, but it wasn't totally unreasonable. These seats were in really good condition. But we eventually sold them for $250 to a couple changing a campervan back to a passenger van. Lol We both got tired of looking at them stored on our porch. Good luck with your build, and getting rid of your seats :D
Great videos! Just wondering if the 3rd or 4th row double seat will fit into the 2nd row bench seat mounting bracket. I am considering buying a Transit CrewVan for RV conversion. But the 2nd-row bench seat is too wide. I am hoping I could replace the 3-seat bench seat with a 2 seater.
Thank you! I was just wondering the same thing a few hours ago. Our build is going to be functional for us, but trying to keep it basic. And it would be great to be able to add a two seater back in there if needed, without removing our campervan storage. It is on my list to go take measurements tonight after we get home from work. I will let you know 😁
Not completely switching. Big Tow will be for shorter, more wknd type trips. She has a trailer hitch, so we can hook up the camper for longer trips and have our bicycles and kayaks safe and secure inside 😃
Hi guys ! I am thinking of getting a nice passenger van and I want to take the seats out like you did. my question is... what did you do with the seats? I'm wondering if it would be hard to sell them...thanks 💚💚💚(new subscriber)😊
Hello Janis! Thanks for joining us :) We stored the seats at our house after we removed them. They sat on FB marketplace long enough that I had given up on them selling. They were in perfect condition. A buyer finally found us and we let them go for $300. Worth more? Probably. But getting them sold and out of my way was worth more to us. I am wishing you better luck at selling yours quicker than we did :)
Ok at 03:35. Screwdrivers are lodged in place, hubby is at the ready and She says 'the 2nd row is the heaviest, you may want to get help with this bxxch'. I'm like YeeHaw speak the truth! I've been cleaning out my house and painting and am all yucky, she was talking to me! (62yr old woman) ....but she does say 'bench'. You may want to get help. with this bench'. Time for a glass of wine. And then a shower.
Hello, new friend! Scotty and I both still work full time jobs. We started getting serious about retirement about 10 years ago. Living a more simple life and saving money where we could. You will see, our conversion is going to be simple, but functional. We have only bought 2x4s, 4x4s, and plywood for the platform bed so far. That was a quick trip to Home Depot because it is all we have in our hometown :) But yesterday we had a friend tell us about an RV 'graveyard' in a town close by. Kind of a pick and pull parts deal for RVs or conversions. So we are excited to go see what treasures we can get there. We will keep you updated :)
You guys saved my life and us being able to fit everything to haul from WI to TX for our daughter’s wedding! Thank you!!!
Thanks for watching and glad you found it helpful. We had to watch a few RUclips videos also to figure ot out.
Ur a life saver. I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Thank you so much! I love hearing those comments. We are us...if we ever get to meet this is who you will get. Haha
Thank you. Was going to use my van for moving furniture now I know what to do!
There is a lot of space in these vans when the seats are removed. It should work well for moving furniture.

I was wondering how to get my back row of seats out with that latch. Thank you guys so much for the ziptie trick. 👍👍

There sure is a lot of seats in them things, huh? Now to find a place to store them.

Finding storage space for all the seats is a huge task! Lol I am hoping I can talk him into trying to sell them :)
Cool stuff. It is coming along for sure. Going to be a ton of room in there. Can't wait to see what you decide to do.

That would be much better 😁 I could leave a couple of seats stowed away, just in case. This van does not have it though.
Another tip is to put a wooden rod through all zip ties and pull at once.
Why arnt they all pop out like the others
I am not sure about that. My guess is a safety factor, or maybe they just wanted to make it a little more difficult for us to remove them 😀
