I wanted to say thank you to you ‘guys’ for the information you have provided especially the video(s) you have presented regarding the monthly/yearly costs associated with living in TV. My wife and I bought a pre-owned home about 1-1/2 weeks ago and having your cost information really helped convince us that we could own a home here. We are looking forward to being here in TV; initially, we will be part-timers . Also, as you have said regarding your purchase experience, a buyer has to move very very quickly if you find a home because the homes receive offers so fast. Again, thank you for the information you have provided.

I am also concerned about lightening. An electrician told me a household needs layers of protection. He told me to call SECO, and they will install a surge protector on the outside meter box that will cost an extra $5.95 per month. They are scheduled to install this for me in the next two weeks. Sure hope it works!

Yes, those things are good to know. That bike rack is heavy. It's no problem for me but for some people it would be a chore to wrestle that onto the car. It could also be a problem moving it once the bikes are on the rack. With 2 people, no problem at all… but for one, maybe.

I find the extreme heat here in Florida limits me much more than the rain. In fact, I LOVE to exercise outside just before a rainstorm because that's when a nice cool breeze usually comes out and the sun goes behind the clouds. It can be a BIG relief on a hot and sunny day!

My 25 yr old home near 466 had been hit twice before I moved in. One hit took out the AC system but all repairs and AC replacement were covered by the home insurance.
I must add to Melody's post that two of my favorite restaurants to go to are Nancy Lopez country club and Arnold Palmer's. The food and service is excellent at both. I've been to both quite a few times and have never been disappointed. Enjoyed the Chop House also. I can tell you two must have been loved by your students. The way you present information is just so entertaining and informative at the same time. It seems you both were born to teach and guide! I just love it! Enjoyed your joke Giz! LOL

Thanks for measuring! We installed a whole house surge protector in our electrical panel. Prior we lost a TV and the golf cart part (electric). It cost around $350, but took the electrician about 3 minutes, so maybe it could be a DIY.
All of the houses in our area of The Villages were built with a whole house surge protector. We had a lightning strike across the street. One breaker got blown out, but otherwise we were OK. The house that the lightning struck in front of, they lost nothing.
I appreciate your videos. My in-laws live in the Villages and it’s another way to keep up with news about their community and also helps me plan our trips down there to do fun outings with my toddler.

Those of us South of 466A/West of BV, have it just as easy/fast, of a drive to MCO as those South of 44. The closest Turnpike ramp is 5 minutes away for us on 301. When TV finishes building North of Deluna they will have it the easiest with direct access to 301 just South of the Turnpike entrance ramp.

Ground fault protectors. Never heard of lightning striking a house in Florida, but some try to prevent every possibility of anything no matter how unlikely.
Hi Jerry & Lynda. Thanks for the shout-out. Really interesting reading the comments on lighting below from your other viewers. To update you and the viewers. The strike was covered by the insurance company who was fantastic in sending out an assessor to value the claim. The cheque was sent out with no quibbles. (on this point they can't send a cheque outside the US so we had to have it sent to a US address and get our tenants to bank it for us). WE had to rely on friends in The Villages to resolve matters, with all correspondence with the insurance company/contractors being undertaken via WhatsApp and emails. Thank god for remote technology - and the wonderful friends that we have in TV. It was determined that the strike hit the ground externally but caused a surge via the irrigation system/external electrics. This blew the main to the garage door, the irrigation timer, some LED lights inside the house, and the USB sockets in the bedroom. In this instance surge protectors would not have stopped the damage. VERY useful information though... Here's to next Monday :-)
Unfortunately, our home (the back yard) was not struck just once!!!! but twice!!!!! What are the odds? Plus, a house down the rode caught on fire; we think it was because of a lightning strike. I remember looking out at the backyard when the first strike happened. It was like this huge flash of light that kind of blinded me for a few seconds. Plus, it happened so fast; all I kept thinking was thank goodness I wasn't sitting on the screened in patio at the time. A little to close for comfort. And yes, our electric went out and it fried our cable box.

I was on the Glenview Championship course and on my cell phone radar app I saw a thin storm cell coming my way I was stuck on the 8th hole for 35 minutes in a torrential down poor and not one other course got rain. Zip up the cart had my lunch then finished the round I was the only one on the course after the storm.

We think so. I hope you will have the use of a golf cart. We think that is the best way to get a real feel for what The Villages is all about. Without the golf cart lifestyle it would be much like many other retirement communities.

Hi Jerry & Lynda. Thanks for the shout-out. Really interesting reading the comments on lighting below from your other viewers.
To update you and the viewers. The strike was covered by the insurance company who was fantastic in sending out an assessor to value the claim. The cheque was sent out with no quibbles. (on this point they can't send a cheque outside the US so we had to have it sent to a US address and get our tenants to bank it for us). WE had to rely on friends in The Villages to resolve matters, with all correspondence with the insurance company/contractors being undertaken via WhatsApp and emails. Thank god for remote technology - and the wonderful friends that we have in TV.
It was determined that the strike hit the ground externally but caused a surge via the irrigation system/external electrics. This blew the main to the garage door, the irrigation timer, some LED lights inside the house, and the USB sockets in the bedroom. In this instance surge protectors would not have stopped the damage. VERY useful information though...

Unfortunately, our home (the back yard) was not struck just once!!!! but twice!!!!! What are the odds? Plus, a house down the rode caught on fire; we think it was because of a lightning strike. I remember looking out at the backyard when the first strike happened. It was like this huge flash of light that kind of blinded me for a few seconds. Plus, it happened so fast; all I kept thinking was thank goodness I wasn't sitting on the screened in patio at the time. A little to close for comfort. And yes, our electric went out and it fried our cable box.

I was on the Glenview Championship course and on my cell phone radar app I saw a thin storm cell coming my way I was stuck on the 8th hole for 35 minutes in a torrential down poor and not one other course got rain. Zip up the cart had my lunch then finished the round I was the only one on the course after the storm.
That can be scary! 😲😲

Awesome show as usual. Thanks for all you two do. I'm sooooo looking forward to moving there this coming winter. We will be staying in our 5th wheel at the Recreation Plantation for 6 months starting this coming November. Looking forward to getting away from the cold Wyoming winters, and move to Florida!!! Six months should be enough time to check out the villages, and all the area has to offer. Dont ya think?
We think so. I hope you will have the use of a golf cart. We think that is the best way to get a real feel for what The Villages is all about. Without the golf cart lifestyle it would be much like many other retirement communities.
Please ask Sam how he liked the Cleveland area in comparison to the Villages! Love your show!

Just read that Seminole and Orange counties (FL) have most lightning strikes in U. S.
Hope you are feeling better Linda. In 1997 when I was looking at homes to buy, one home for sale had a pot bellied pig in a cage in the living room. The listing agent said she got lots of questions from prospective buyers about the pig. It was something to see!
You should take the time one day and play Silver Lake (when it re-opens). Such a pretty course.
