Relative King neophyte here. Historically what kept me away was that so many of his books are long. Currently reading Salem’s Lot. I have the first two Dark Tower books and am really looking forward to that series. Great video, Brad!

Thanks, Dave! Man, I really hope you enjoy Salem's Lot and your journey to the Dark Tower! King definitely has some big door stopper books, but he's also got quite a few "normal" novel length books in the 300-400ish page range. Happy reading, Dave!

Shorter books-Carrie, Thinner, The Girl That Loved Tom Gordon, The Long Walk, The Body, Cujo, Misery.

This was great Brad! My first Stephen King book was Carrie, which I read when I was around 11 I believe.

Thanks, Julia! I was a late bloomer when it came to reading King. I didn't read my first until my late twenties.

Awesome recommendation. King has so much more to offer than just horror. He does such a great job at crafting a story, my only complaint is his endings.

Thanks, Brian! You're right that King is much more than just a horror author. For me his books are more about the journey than the destination (as cliché as they sounds lol) but agree that he doesn't always stick the landing. An ending in particular that stands out to me that was quite a big let down was the ending of The Outsider.

An excellent video Brad! I agree with starting with his short story collections, Skeleton Crew is my personal favorite. Revival is one of his books I still need to read. The Green Mile is a magnificent novel, as is 11/22/63. I would add Joyland to the mix. The Dark Tower is also my favorite series, starting a re-read soon. Full Dark, No Stars is perhaps my favorite King novella collection. On Writing and Danse Macabre are both excellent recommendations.

Thanks, Cliff! I still need to read Skeleton Crew and Full Dark, No Stars. I think Joyland is one of his more underrated books. I'd like to reread the Dark Tower books someday.

Nice! His most recent ones I bought new, but most of my collection I've found at Half Priced Books. A few I bought from people off of a Stephen King Facebook group. Good luck with your collection.
