"Here comes Peter!" Love how excited he is to see his father in law becoming the doctor.
Years before his own wife was even conceived, to boot!
How weird is that to even think about? "I have fond childhood memories of my father in law years before my wife was even born!"
"So young!"
here comes Papa in law!
Funny to imagine a young David Tennant watching this on television not knowing he was watching his future father in law.
Or his future role, for that matter.
@@ShinGallon Yeah that too! For Capaldi as well
@@ShinGallon Yeah...
I thought you were going to say something like, "not knowing he'd one day play the same role" but you're totally right! I didn't even think of it that way, lol 😂✨️
@@Emm_er probably would have been the more sensible first thought 😂😂
This is so adorable. I think it's sweet to consistently see how much love David has for not only the role of the Doctor, but the show as a whole.
I think this has more to do with the fact that it's his father in law than just being Dr Who.
@@littleripper312 I mean I'm sure that's part of it, but he's also made no secret of his love for the show. Pretty sure this was kind of his era too based on things he's said in interviews.
@@littleripper312 are you blind or just stupid, david has been a fan of doctor who most of his life, hes been watching since tom baker, hes a massive fan you can tell in all the rtd 1 behind the scenes stuff
Yeah pity he helped fuck it into a coma in the recent xmas specials really....
@@stephenpieroni3419 I don't agree, but to each their own!
and many years later, "dont blink" got a whole new meaning in doctor who xD
I finished the line when I heard it. Kinda hoped David would too.
In terms of "lining up the shots" for a regeneration, I always remember the confidential footage of the changeover of Derek Jacobi in John Simm and how they kept moving Simm around and then FINALLY got to the actual filming.
I still have incredibly vivid memories of Patrick Troughton frantically choosing his replacement before giving up and regenerating as Jon Pertwee. 1968, I think, and a traumatised 4 year old never forgets! (Nor forgives Jon Pertwee from replacing his hero. Well, not for another year or so, anyway!)
Patrick Troughton’s doctor scared me because his doctor was so nervous himself. I was on 8 when he regenerated, and I much preferred Jon Pertwee. Other than Terror of the Autons, I stopped getting nightmares or being unable to sleep.
I was upset when Tom Baker went. To me his replacement , until recently , wasnt in my mind a good |Doctor. Even todat Tom is MY No1 Doctor, the definitive article!
David Tennant is a national treasure.
Crazy how they did all that even with a weeping angel on set
*So weird, me and David Tennant were watching the same episode at the same time but only one of us became the Doctor.* And all I became was a time traveler.
?
Hale, well met from a fellow traveler.
Aye, but we had to get from 1981 to 2024 the old fashioned way.
@@0megacron You mean the long way round
@@nickpereira4047he travels forward through time at the speed of regular time.
I think it's amazing they kept the shots of the process. We get so spoiled by what we can do with computers and videos these days. The effort they put into the effects of the past .. well done, and well done saving this!
I think it’s because it was a VFX shot it’ll have been kept separately. Everything else would’ve just been thrown away and the edited version kept, but anything that needed VFX had to be sent off separately for processing so was probably kept somewhere.
Knowing that they would be reshown 40 odd years later… For your son-in-law to react to it, no less 😂
David would be surprised how many times we watch Doctor Who Confidential with his change into Matt Smith, the recent behind the scenes clip of David lining himself up with Jodie Whittaker for her regeneration, and hopefully see the change from David to Ncuti in Doctor Who Unleashed.
"hopefully see the change from David to Ncuti in Doctor Who Unleashed." well...
@dibbidydoo4318 even if they did it the way they did it I'm still super curious as to how they managed to film that scene where 15 comes out
Prepare to be surprised.
So interesting to see, and hear David's comments... I remember watching this when it was on telly,
I wasn't a very emotional youngster but seeing Tom Baker's DW pass away felt like losing a family member...still upsets me even watching it with the technical bits...
Baker was interviewed years later,, he said he was tired of playing the Doctor, the physical nature was becoming too much for him, it shows a bit in that clip... he now does ensemble cast audio versions of the 4th doctor with Big Finish Productions, some of the same team used to make the show is involved it's done in the1970s style ie the drama, plots, and the music have the old feel... its surprisingly good
2:53 Can't wait to watch the future Doctor react to old Doctor Who Confidentials leading up to the 90th anniversary special.
I remember the episode. I was 14 or 15 and a little sad that Tom as the Doctor was over. He and Sarah Jane were my favorite pair
Things like this make you appreciate the enormous amount of work and meticulous attention to detail that goes into getting everything right in even a scene that's only a few seconds long after editing. The old saying, "If you know what the magician knows, it's not magic anymore" doesn't apply here. It's still magic when you see the finished product with an appreciation of how and why it looks as good as it does.
I would really love the see the whole making of Tom’s Regeneration, we only got a few clips on the a new body at last documentary on the Logopolis DVD, now is the time to see the complete making of please. it would make me so happy 😊
We’ve had it for years. It’s on the Season 18 boxset.
Bruh doesn't have the Season 18 Collection
@@404TVfr I haven't got it, I have the new beginnings boxset which shows clips from the regeneration?
@@TardisMarch there is very raw studio footage on the Season 18 set.
Ok, Thanks for letting me know, I appreciate that 👍🏻
"don't blink" weeping angel flashbacks
The classic series was so fun. I watched the original run in the late 80s to early 90s in the States on PBS 5-10 yrs minimum after they originally aired. They would have fundraisers to pay for broadcast rights to syndicate the show, airing on Saturday nights.
he’s so sweet 😢
David is a terrific actor and a fan who lived the dream more than once. Fantastic!
It’s perfect for 60th anniversary.
I'm as much geeking out over watching this with David Tennant and seeing his reactions, as I am over seeing the BTS itself. Clearly Mr. Tennant is himself a super-fan.
That was so awesome!!!! Thanks for that!! Along with David’s commentary, it was fantastic!!!
You can see him struggling with how excited he is to see this vs. being terrified that they're gonna do this with his behind the scenes footage in the future.
I just watched the regeneration studio footage from time and the rani last night, took much longer because Sylvester couldn't see the monitor for most of it.
This is wonderful! 🙂
Tom Baker is his favourite Doctor his mother knitted him a Doctor Who Scarf when he was younger, he started with Pertwee's final story and was watching when Davison took over, it must have been weird watching Davison as the fifth doctor and then later he would be his father in law and the fact he married her daughter, Georgia Moffett.
What a gem
Love this
How can you not love #10 ❤❤❤❤❤
I'm watching this clip and forgot that he's watching the behind the scenes moments his father-in-law became The Doctor
It broke my heart when Tom Baker left😢
The first time I saw Dr. Who, it was this scene at the end.
Great actors look at it now
Hurrah! My two favorite Doctors in one video! I commented yesterday on a Tom Baker birthday post, that he was the most influential man in me, other than Jesus. Zany, eh?!
Thank you both.
I remember watching this not knowing it was the end of Tom Baker's run, and thinking "Who's this kid? That's not the Doctor!" 😂 There was no Twitter to complain to, just stopped watching and got into other things after that. As we all should at some age.
Same, David. Same.
0:17 "..Don't Blink.."
David Tennant: "Ohh... I know about that too well, lady..."
Put Tennant and Capaldi in a room to geek-out about all the classic bits! Zero concessions to the general audience.
@corridorcrew should cover this! Amazing
🤩
I heard in an interview given by someone that when Tom was finished, he just walked away saying goodbye to no one and just leaving. I don’t think there was any ill will at play, but I think to see it all end affected him more than he realized it would.
Ray, please do a color version of that midi-chlorian picture - they should be a green color (too light and they'll look like grapes).
if Tom Baker was the Superman of Doctors, Peter was the Clark Kent. I wish they would have leaned into the Clark Kent aspect more. I feel like there was a lot of really good story potential that never got told.
I think Peter Davison did a good job. He just had way too big shoes to fill is all. Matt Smith almost had the same problem until he made his own Doctor popular with his mannerisms.
It's actually just frightening that was forty-odd years ago! 😧!
It funny, because david has video diaries on the original dvds of his show.
Perter davidson is David Tenants Father in Law ?? WOW SO COOL Keeping the doctor in the family.
I love this! To this day, I think the regeneration sequence from 4th to 5th is the most beautiful, creative, and brilliant one made to date - I never get tired of watching it.
it's certainly better than Lucozade fireworks isn't it
David, you should never have come back, your moment was incredible, you should have left it there. Fortunately for me, your 11 was nothing like your 14th. Shocking and at the same time sad, that you were sandwiched between two incredibly dull and unimaginative ‘doctors’. RIP Doctor Who, so glad I was there at the start, so glad that I was there at the conclusion. 1963 to 2013.
I think for the actors who played The Doctor in NuWho have it abit easier doing the regeneration scenes because atleast they stand up and do it while the actors in Classic had to lay down and regenerate that would had been very hard work.
tom wears his boots, peter wears the socks & shoes from leisure hive
um... the don't blink at the beginning. Memories of fear...
I think the people watching the behind the scenes years later have some reverence for the moments involved.
Tom completely ignored Peter just as Jon completely ignored Tom in the regeneration scenes.
big egos
Dont blink...😮
This was fun in the weirdest way :D
David had to do that process 3 times. From 9-10, 10-11, and 13-14.
I'm not so sure that the man who has shot the most regeneration scenes ever is in any kind of position to judge someone else's regeneration! :)
And have you seen the new generation bi generation crap? I think he’s put the nail in his own coffin now what are people gonna think of that regeneration?
@@Alfie-ft3bxEveryone seems cool with it idk
@@YEs69th420 I just mean in the far future
@@Alfie-ft3bx We just got out of Chibnall's run i really dont think people are gonna be that concerned with bigeneration
@Alfie-ft3bx it's Russell being Russell and I'll take that over the total mess that was Chibnall any day. Besides, Tennant is my favorite and any excuse to keep him around is fine by me
I was born in 1981
Funnily enough, when he got to this bit I actually found a jelly baby under one of my sofa cushions
Where is Pappa Who to sit with David? It's his father in law for crying out loud. Get them both! The conversations would be amazing.
Tristan Farnon!
Three words for you, David. Doctor Who Confidential!!
Well David confidential is a thing, all of which is now available in full on Iplayer so sorry bud many of your behind the scenes moments are available and will be reshown throughout time and I know you know this.
Incoming in-law 😂
I think the scarf was Tom Baker’s. It was pretty unique.
@brontewcat Tom Baker said the scarf was an accident. They gave the yarn to the lady who knitted it and just said make a scarf. She used all of the yarn which gave the scarf it's iconic length.
They actually ripped up his scarf well the season 18 one there's a video of Tom saying he had no clue 😂
@@ronaldnelson6692 Yes - that is a well known story.
@@brontewcat I love the way Tom Baker tells the story.
I remember it like yesterday.
I was 5 1/2 and so upset.
Adored Tom baker ❤
Difference was Tom was interesting and entertaining....
"That was Tom leaving Doctor Who forever"... still a bit bitter about missing the Curator, David? I get it.
Loved Dr who as a child. Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker were hard to replace. Peter Davidson did a good job, but lost interest with Colin Baker and those thereafter.
Not this is how a a regeneration is correctly done. None of that Biregeneratiopn BS they did so recently. I was sad as a boy to see Tom go.
Tenant was the one that both elevated then destroyed the IP.
Don't blink, eh?
Sad..that TENNANT had a big hand in bringing back and ultimately destroying the franchise 😢
Tom Baker so tude
he explained more recently that he didn't want to go (affecting his mood) and it was quite tense (having been the longest serving doctor)
Shame on David Tennat for going along with what they did to his incarnation of the doctor.
It's just a role, you know, and he's a professional actor, and one of the nicest people you could meet. He wouldn't interfere with the director or showrunner's vision regards of what he thought of it.
Back when dr who wasn't a woke piece of shit that no one watches.
Dr Who is absolutely stinking now.
Tennant you are a sell out.
Nope.
So angry. It's just a TV show you know. Grow up, move on.
@@sg-yq8pmSo I'm not allowed to voice a critical opinion about a dumb comment now? Funny that. Tennant is anything but a sellout. He's one of the nicest, most conscientious and respectful of the Doctor Who franchise person you could want.
Surprised he's not disgusted by the lack of diversity in this majority male-presenting show.
I’m surprised you’re bothering to claim intelligence when you spout this much nonsensical gibberish all the time.
Chill it's not that deep
Are you okay?
triggered, snowflake?
@@brony606he’s mad that David Tennant supports the idea of the doctor being someone other than a white guy
This is just my opinion, but Tom Baker was the best Dr
