I still have incredibly vivid memories of Patrick Troughton frantically choosing his replacement before giving up and regenerating as Jon Pertwee. 1968, I think, and a traumatised 4 year old never forgets! Things like this make you appreciate the enormous amount of work and meticulous attention to detail that goes into getting everything right in even a scene that's only a few seconds long after editing. The old saying, "If you know what the magician knows, it's not magic anymore" doesn't apply here. It's still magic when you see the finished product with an appreciation of how and why it looks as good as it does.
