    I’m rewatching all Dr Dans videos because I find his positivity and personality infectious.
    I’ve also become invested in how he is doing, it’s hard to explain, almost like a friend I’ve never met.

    Dr. Dan, just wanted to rewatch this video because of your current state.😢 I wanted to see again just how different you looked almost exactly two years ago. I feel so sad and in disbelief that your mom wrote in yesterday’s update that you’ve accepted your “possible soon transition.” Been following you since I came across your “2-6 months to live” video last September, so I am fully aware of your decline. Just very difficult to imagine that we won’t ever see your weekly videos again, and I still kept holding out hope that you’d get a turnaround after your “Last Transmission” video. Love listening to you talk and the way you talk and the things you share, because you’re so transparent, genuine, and honest. You’ll be greatly missed.❤ Hope you’re still able to enjoy your favorite foods and movies with your parents. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. ♥️♥️♥️

    Dr. Dan, thank you for documenting your journey. I am 44 and recently received the same diagnosis. I start chemo later this week. There is no shortage of females documenting their journey with breast cancer, but it is beneficial to hear about colorectal cancer and from a male's point of view. Like you, I was very active, athletic, and by all accounts lived a healthy lifestyle. I have also taken your positive/optimistic approach as I walk the difficult path ahead of me. I believe that a positive spirit will help in the healing process. Please keep documenting your journey. It has been helpful for me and I know it will help countless others.

      Wow, Nathan, I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with this, but I like your attitude and approach! The way I see it, this is just another (unexpected) challenge, and a part of our life's adventure. An unplanned part of that adventure, true -- but something that we can deal with optimistically and keep our joy of life throughout.
      I'm glad to hear that you were otherwise healthy going into this -- I'm convinced this makes our outcomes much better overall, even if no one's doing research on this connection.
      Hang in there, brother -- you can do this. We'll both be stronger on the other side.
      I'm hoping you have a smooth experience with chemo; it's not always fun, but I continued working through that process, and staying active. It takes a little off your normal energy levels, but even *some* activity/exercise is way better than none :)

    You did a great job of explaining things as always. Very wise of you to ignore the statistics as much as possible, IMO as the numbers don't/can't factor in various lifestyle elements that really matter - overall attitude and even the expectations of each patient can influence the outcome as well. Statistics are not a match to your positive personality!
    May your final surgery go very smoothly and be free of all complications.
    Take care, Dan.

    I got my resection surgery 6/20, then had similar issues, went to the ER on 6/25. Thankfully while I was in the hospital, I took a shower and saw a stream of liquid shoot out from under my skin by the stoma. It turned out my intestinal loop got twisted somehow and they put the wrong opening out of my belly. I got another surgery within 12 hours of my surgeon stopping by my hospital room and troubleshooting this issue with me to correct it. Gotta say, I am also really looking forward to the reversal! Don’t have a date yet, but praying for one to come soon!

    • @DrDanSays
      @DrDanSays  2 года назад +1

      Thank you, Carmel, and I’m sorry that your husband is going through something similar.
      Because nothing was getting through my stoma due to a blockage, I’ve been wearing a catheter through the stoma, into the bag, to allow food to get through.
      And regarding food choice: the big thing is, easily digestible food that allows smooth passage through the intestines. I’ve had to avoid cheese, fruits and vegetables with skins, or that are tough and may leave me with chunks. Right now I’m eating high protein pancakes, waffles, pasta (mac & cheese!), doing fruit smoothies with some greens and proteins and peanut butter thrown in, oatmeal, protein bars, cereal, applesauce, etc. going as nutrient dense as you can, and calorie dense has been helpful. Smaller meals, spaced out a bit, making sure I don’t eat too much at a time (which os tough, because i’m super hungry all the time!).
      Tell him to make sure he chews his food thoroughly, at least 30 times per bite! If he gets obstructed, that is a miserable experience. My catheter has been a lifesaver, allowing food to get through. But sometimes I have to flush it out with a syringe if it gets clogged, but having the ability to do that has also been incredibly helpful. My doctors don’t recommend it, but it’s been just mandatory for me to do.
      Wishing your husband a speedy and complete recovery, and sending you both my prayers!
