I've just gone back to work as a greenskeeper at the age of 64 after 4 years of retirement and 43 years working in aerospace engineering before that. I've never physically worked so hard in my life, but it's very satisfying and great exercise. I'll be out in the rain tomorrow morning at 5.30 changing all 18 pin locations.
I’m a greenkeeper.. and I’m so happy that you have gone behind the scenes to work along side us and show other golfers what goes on and why we do it. Great video James and John 👍🏻
Just make sure you wash down after you get off the course, and don't put anything near your face that's come in contact with the grass. Most pro golfers and superintendents suffer from debilitating illnesses due to extended exposure to pesticides, or worse such as cancer.
I’m 19 and thinking of becoming a greenskeeper. Iv been golfing my entire life and for a year and a half now Iv been working at a GC. I really like getting up In the morning and seeing the sun rise as you are out on a beautiful course with the dew on the grass and the clear air!
Great in depth explanation of what is done and why. I hope those that complain all the time about greens maintenance now have a better understanding of it.
Excellent insight into how the green keepers keep our courses as good as can be. Thank you to all the Green keepers in the world your work is really appreciated 👏👏👏👍👍
Like your videos. I worked on a golf course maintenance crew all through high school here in the States. I did it to get my golf for free and it was great experience and I learned alot about taking care of grass. Now 30 years later it still spills into my lawn maintenance program.
This was maybe the most interesting golf video I've ever watched and I did watch the whole video. Your videos have always been great but this one was the top one. It gave me insight into what actually goes into the maintenance at a golf course and I will never again complain about how the greens are being worked on. Thanks.
Thanks James & the maintenance staff for a good presentation for what goes into golf course maintenance. It's a heck of a lot of work & perhaps many of us will be much more appreciative of what goes on & not complain so much it we see an imperfection.
Excellent vlog - more people need to realise what really goes into the making of a quality golf course and appreciate it. Replacing divots and mending pitch marks make a big difference!!💪👌👍🙂🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Great video to show the work the greenkeepers do to let us enjoy the game of golf. A lot of work goes in and as you said they're not always appreciated for their hard work.
That’s a great video mate! So many people moan about conditions and green fees etc but you look at the work gone into that one green! Can’t wait to get on that course again when we’re allowed! Brilliant 👍🏻🏌️♂️
Hey Hey really enjoyed the vid I am currently studying Greenkeeping at African Turf Academy in South Africa!!! Please tell the club if they have a job opening I will come work For them!!!!!!! Again awesome video for teaching people what happens when they are not there.
Great video mate, I was a greens assistant as teenager it was my first real job and I loved it. This could be a little bit of a series? Pop in and spend a day with the guys once every few weeks (or when they do a big job) I think a lot of golfers could benefit hugely from seeing the work that goes into maintaining a golf course.
Yes James , it gives us as golfer a new perspective of what goes into keeping the course in tip top shape giving us a better experience playing a round⛳🏌️♂️
Never thought I would enjoy the video, but it was really interesting and entertaining. Probably helps that the greenkeeper also has a sense of humour and patience. Really great video.
Always enjoyed golf but I never realized how much attention to detail and amount of work these greenskeepers put in until I decided to put one in at my house. It’s real not that easy to get a nice looking green. Nice job boys!!
Very interesting to see why when we play and the greens are spiked, why they are and what it does to the greens. Thank you James for this video! nice to see the work being done so we can play on fabulous greens!
Definitely do more of these once we’re back up and running. Love seeing course maintenance. Always kept my eye on what they do then copy it on my lawn as best I can. My neighbours think I know what I’m doing when they see me top dressing!
really enjoyed this vid. I really appreciate green keepers and have watched loads of these style vids on youtube :). well done lads keep up the good work
Green keepers do an amazing job and when you get a awesome one at your club look after them Cracking video James and many thanks for sharing it with us
A most interesting video on things that go on behind the scenes on a golf course. When out playing you see the green keepers out there doing their work to keep the course up to scratch. Took the opportunity a few weeks ago to watch the hollow tine machine being used and thought that's going to take some time to get the green back in shape, hardly know its been done now. The green keepers say its going to be hard work to get it how they'd like it to be after the last winter we've had. About time Brad's second fitting video was shown.
Best job I ever had . Straight out a school . Loved it. Apart from the hand held hollow core device , what made ye, valuable lessons learned. Great 3 & half years.
This is a great video James pal!! I've always said just how valuable the green staff are at any golf course. It's like, I've a golf club has a lower than average hospitality team, or a lower than average pro etc you'd just about get away with it. Would Not get away with a poor grounds team, they really are the back bone. Nice to see a bit of appreciation for them
Great vid James. Can't wait to get back out on the course. The greens and fairways should be fantastic after the rest they have had. Keep safe everyone
Should be more of these types of videos watching what the Greenkeepers do. The more we are told the more I would appreciate what the Greenkeeping staff do. Knew they worked hard and had a lot to do, but hadn't the faintest idea its was so much. As ever James a really enjoyable video !
great vlog James one of the better ones you have done, because that is proper work and dedication to please the paying golfers. it is good to see the other side of golf, you should do more. hats off to all the ground staff
As a greenskeeper myself it nice that your showing the average golf what actually goes on and why we scarify, air-rate by hollowcoring , top dress and seed
James. We appreciate you and all you do brother. The work and time you put into your videos and your awesome attitude. This was a great video to show people what happens behind the scenes of a golf course to show people how those awesome conditions of a course actsiolt become that way! Great job!
I work as a volunteer greenkeeper on our small 9 hole course in the Isles of scilly , if they ever get rid of some of that equipment i'm first in line Derek Metcalfe
Absolutely Fantastic work James. Great staff there taking great care of that course. Thanks for the insight, it's appreciated from my perspective as well. I am heading into my second year as a member of the Grounds Crew for a local course. It will be my full-time retirement job in a few years!!!
This is AWESOME! It's great to see them do it right. And to those who complain after it's done aren't really good enough to complain. LOL 🤣 As a former Superintendent I miss it greatly. Keep up the great work and cheer's! 🍻 🏌️⛳
My dream job..... I love turf science and grass. Sadly I love looking after my own lawn. Great job, greens are so hard to maintain. Nice to hear about the turf nursery, a course I used to play on contaminated the greens with some sand that had oil in it. The sand was kept in ton bags on the warehouse floor, the roof leaked, the floor got wet, the oil soaked in to the sand. They spread it on the greens and it killed 2 of the greens. They had no turf nursery!
Great video James, good to see a behind the scene of what the green keepers do to make the courses great. Defo going to get a day in at Wooly park when this is all over
Incredible video!!!!! All that work just for 1 green. I'm glad I'm not a complainer when the greens are aerated...lol Thank you to all the Greens Keepers for all their hard work!!!!
I loved this video James. I have always watched/moaned at our green keepers doing this from time to time and wondered what went into it. Thanks for this mate 👍
What a great instructional video, James. Always thought greenkeepers were there, like mosquitoes, to buzz in your ear and annoy you. I am really impressed by the work they do. If not for you videos I wouldn't have known!
James what a fantastic video a real insight into what steps it takes to keep greens in good condition. Maybe your back garden could do with a little prep 😂😂😂😂 stay safe 👍🏻
I work at whitensville golf club and we have 2 days to plug and top dress fairways, greens, T's. Long days but its always a good time good with a good crew of guys. Awsome job!
Very educational James... great idea to show us what goes into maintaining a green. Just hope we can get out and play on some before the clocks change back :(
so yesterday in Australia it was announced that golf courses had to close indefinitely, but the silver lining is my course just did its annual core'n'sand so by the time we're allowed back out into the wild, our course is going to be absolutely mint and we won't have had to play through the core repair period...small silver lining in a world where folks are getting sick and dying by the thousands, its blowing my mind that I'm even saying those words, its incredibly sad. I hope you all are keeping well
James that was really interesting, I was on my clubs greens committee back in the 80s in South Africa and it just shows how times and methods have changed in that time.
Super cool - the little dog is a riot! This is a must watch for golfers - maybe they would be more inclined to repair ball marks - correctly (push them in towards the center and not pry up the center.)
Great insight into the work involved in maintaining a green - I’ve certainly learnt from this. Great content James, I know it’s going to be difficult to keep coming up with interesting videos.
lol the most work yah do while pullin plugs, is shoveling them, little tip for yah guys, snow shovels work way better, and use the arrarator like a ice rink zamboni, makes it so you dont have to turn the machine around at end of yur line. I would so work with you gents, looks like a fun crew. AND finally yah using a leaf blower to clear greens and tees of debris!! wish my Boss would learn this trick!! Cheers from DCGC Canada
very good content. would like more of these kinds. see if you can film when they fix bunkers and water hazards or other kind of important work we know little about. also film what other staff do, like reception restaurant etc. always interesting to see what's going on behind the curtains for us to have a nice course to play. all staff need respect and greet.
Thank you! Very educational! I learned alot in your Video and saw all of it on my local course...now I know how long it takes for the greens to repair from those holes
I've just gone back to work as a greenskeeper at the age of 64 after 4 years of retirement and 43 years working in aerospace engineering before that. James Robinson Golf lol haven’t seen you so quiet when you were on the machine, nice work though mate
no shit
Just make sure you wash down after you get off the course, and don't put anything near your face that's come in contact with the grass. Most pro golfers and superintendents suffer from debilitating illnesses due to extended exposure to pesticides, or worse such as cancer.
I'm a greenkeeper.......and I love it.......especially when the suns out
I’m 19 and thinking of becoming a greenskeeper. Iv been golfing my entire life and for a year and a half now Iv been working at a GC. I really like getting up In the morning and seeing the sun rise as you are out on a beautiful course with the dew on the grass and the clear air!
It is the best job in the world in fairness
Diarmuid I’m thinking about going to penn state for turf-grass science. And becoming a superintendent. You recommend it?
Matt 476 if you’re prepared to work hard, go for it!
I’m a greenkeeper in Leeds, best job ever! Also played here at Woolley park and will be returning deffinatly!
Its good to see what goes into how they maintain those lovely greens we all love ti play on fantastic James 🏌️⛳👍💯
Thanks Mark! 🤙🏼⛳️
I don't think most golfers realize the amount of work that goes into a well-kept course. Nice insight for the uninitiated. Thanks, James.
Excellent! Part-time maintenance staff at Indian Hills in Murfreesboro, TN for over 20 years. Had many of those maintenance weeks in years gone by.
It’s cool to see a golfer who appreciates the work that goes into maintaining the course, many don’t
Couldn’t agree more
Great in depth explanation of what is done and why. I hope those that complain all the time about greens maintenance now have a better understanding of it.

Tough work isn't it James that's what I do for a living. Love it
Good video, let's hope we get a chance to admire all the hard word the green staff put in before the summer ends. Say safe & sane everry one
Great video James - and the boys. I learnt a lot. Dogs were brilliant extras!

I absolutely loved this video. I do this for homeowners and my hats off to all greens keepers and superintendents everywhere!!
i really enjoyed this did not realize how much work went into the process of keeping greens playable. Thanks james.

Absolutely Daniel!!
Great video to show the work the greenkeepers do to let us enjoy the game of golf. A lot of work goes in and as you said they're not always appreciated for their hard work.

Couldn’t agree more Russ!
James Robinson Golf are you applying your new skills to your back garden course? 🤔
Russ Garbutt I don’t have the machinery but I’ve learnt a lot!
James Robinson Golf just get an apple corer and some seeds! Dog will give you a hand won’t it! 🤣
Great to see the amount of work that goes into the greens, always appreciate the work the guys do at my club but even more now!!

More than welcome mate
Those guys really are underappreciated among golfers. Good to see them get the recognition for their hard work. Bravo gents
A great insight into what it takes to keep our courses looking their best ⛳
Brilliant James, great to see what goes on and learn why the Greenkeepers do what they do!
A great video. Nice to see a different type of golf related content. Thanks James (and green keepers).
Great video good green keeps are worth the money they make and more. Glad you did this video most golfers may not understand why things are done.
Great vid. The greens at Woolley are incredible. Thanks for all the great work you lads put in! Can’t wait to get back and 3stab!
Great video James, good to see a behind the scene of what the green keepers do to make the courses great. Defo going to get a day in at Wooly park when this is all over

im a greenkeeper and love how this shows members and golfers how its done
Interesting to see the techniques that very from over the pond. I’ve never seen throwing seed after pro coring and top dressing.
I’ve always wanted to operate one of these little tractors , respect to all the hard working people who maintain our courses’👊👊👊👊👊
Thanks for making this video. It helps the players and community better undestand our duties as ground keepers...
Thanks James really enjoyed watching this video. 👏👏
🔥🔥🔥
Hard work like that does not scare me. I could sit and watch it all day.
Very educational James... great idea to show us what goes into maintaining a green. Just hope we can get out and play on some before the clocks change back :(
Loved that vid every golfer should go out with green keepers every now and then and see y they do shat they do to make the green and cores do nice
Great video james, hope this makes people appreciate the work and effort that greenkeepers put into a golf course👍🏻
🔥⛳️
Absolutely loved that. It’s nice to see how the green keepers keep the greens in check. Bet it’s a long day from start to finish tho.
What an amazing video, fascinating to see what goes on to keep the Green’s looking and playing well.
Great video mate something we all take for granted and never give a second thought unsung heroes 👏👏👏
We golfers take so much for granted when it comes to course conditions. Very educational video. I tip my hat to the greenkeepers.
Nice to see what goes into keeping courses looking great!

Amazing video! Just goes to show what is needed and how much effort goes into making a maintaining a decent golf course!
Nice to see a side of the course you dont normally get to see and a bit of a different video really enjoyed it
Great content. Gives us golfers an idea of what goes on behind the scenes. Respect to these guys, especially in the colder months 🙌🏼
Nice on James. I'm off to work on my short game today, in my back garden! All the best mate and stay safe as they say.
I worked at a course for 15 years, this brings backs so many memories good and bad.
Awesome video James. Great group of guys, interesting stuff, thanks.
Thanks!
A new understanding of the work performed for the golfing world. I think longer handles on the plug shovels might be beneficial for the back.
Great insight into the work involved in maintaining a green - I’ve certainly learnt from this. Great content James, I know it’s going to be difficult to keep coming up with interesting videos.
Great vid man it's always good to see just exactly how much work goes into making a course beautiful.
This was great video James very informative and great to see the other side of the business. Thank you!
Excellent video we should all know how hard our green keepers work and what they do for us 👍
It's nice to see how much effort is put into a course

Love this, great to see what goes on in maintaining our courses
Love the dogs supervising all your hard work. Greenskeeping seems like tuff work
