My mother was around during this time this is what she said: "There were people who were dying of hunger because they didn't have enough money to feed their family, whereas on the other hand the shah was living in full luxury (Search up his palaces) just giving Iran's oil to the west with both hands" She absolutely loved Moassadegh and the poor guy went through a very hard time to achieve this - they made his life like hell - It's really upsetting :(
My Finnish friend spends a good deal of time in Iran; and she told me, that it is overwhelmed by heroin addicts. This I find shocking, as it seems so strict over there... She said there is syringes just laying in the gutters, everywhere you go, there are so many addicts. She also told me they have some good MDMA over there...
IRAN is a beautiful, peaceful country with friendly people persians will never Let this great country get accuppied by enemies Long live IRAN and iranian nation
I live in the west, i live in sweden my friend! Im complaining that the west caused all this shit that Iran is in. Iranians want freedom, be able to live the way you want. Due to lack of freedom in Iran many youngsters feel like life is hopeless and start doing drugs.
The numbering system we use is interchangeably called the Hindu, Arabic or Hindu-Arabic numerals, but they originated in India. wikipedia(dot)org/wiki/West_Arabic_numerals
No I have never been there before. I'm a 18 year old dutch guy, so I don't have the funds and my mother and sisters only want to lay on the beach hahaha I will definitely go there when I have a good job. I feel a great force of attraction to Iran.
I know this is from two years ago but I'm reaallly confused as to how they went to Tehran and saw more of "boots in, full hijab" than the "boots out, sexy hair dyed" whatever. I go to Tehran on a regular basis and most of the inner city are dressed up even MORE SO than the women in Mahnaz's jewelry show.
By the way, I would also like to learn Farsi. Want to become a diplomat and already pretty good at Dutch (native language), French and German. Now planning to start with Spanish!
Another reason is for that is because Iran lies on the major supply route of opiates from Afghanistan and other areas scheduled for Europe and the USA.
Nationalizing the oil means a sovereign state takes over its own oil resources and the related industries. Before nationalization the British Anglo-Persian oil company had all rights to refine and export Iranian oil based on decades-old bargain concessions. Before nationalization, the company used to pay only 20% of the company net profits to Iran, not to mention its deep influence in installing and removing ministers and parliament members to its own interests.
I want to work for vice. Shane, you should do more episodes. and you should get ahold of me so i can get a job with you :-). I am in Grenada in the Caribbean if you want something shot here
Hell yeah that country has picked up a lot from america that was about the Cannibal war lords vice has some of the best journalistic footage and insight I have ever seen
I remember the time America made people slaves because of the colour of their skin. I remember the time most of the western world wouldn't allow gay marriage. What's your point?
I totally agree have you seen the one where he goes to the most dangerous slum in the world the guy goes to a brothel at like 3am with $30,000 worth of camera equipment he has balls
I'm not gonna lie, Iranian women are up there for most attractive nationality. If all of them werent required to cover up so much you would be able to see.
The pretence of the government helps Iranian women to remain in Cinema. Shaking hands is not allowed there. Shane did not mention Iran was above China in Reporters without borders. Iran is very close to Oman. It is our neighbor which has good relations with us. Israel is used to sending its spies under the cover of American nationality. I met many Iranians who do not agree with their religious leaders. Many Iranians live like Europeans although they respect their religious figures.
@@frankh9326 This comment is 7 years old, but I imagine I was referencing the Iran-Contra affair in which US officials sold arms to Iran. This happened from '85 to '87, in a war which lasted from '80 until '88. So it seems my original comment is fairly uncontroversial. The United States directly supplied arms to Iran, something which they didn't even do for Iraq through the duration of the war.
@TheWiseFire actually after the islamic revolution other than having to wrar the hijjab it made womens lives easier in education and in the business of cinema. More than 50% of uni students are females in Iran and a higher ratio of women are studying hard to get in degrees than men - you cant just say the Islamic goverment is all crap because it isnt - Sure it has bad points but also has some good points
Please get your facts right Although homosexuality is looked down upon in Iranian society they're not allowed to punish them because of their sexuality Death penalty is only given to re-offenders & rapists Along with this - It's EXTREMELY difficult to give evidence of a gay couple having a physical relationship - Even if its a video tape its still not regarded as valid proof So please research in more depth before making it sound like there's dead hanged bodies as you walk around Iran
what did you think about iran before traveling there ? do you believe in news ?? of course you do ! because you work for them :))) of course you can find any kind of western music and movies in iran . i just wanna say if iran`s fucking government let roger waters play in a concert in iran ... you can never imagine how many people will be in there ... for god sake study the books , the history , the arts and leave this god damn tv
Roger played in our country a really long time ago when people knew how to respect others and their opinion plus rock was really famous and kicking back then
She is overwhelmed because iran is so strict. There is way ore heroin addicts in the west. People do it because they are bored of all the restrictions and life seems hopeless.
Yeah, honestly I think there was a slight bias of course, I mean we're talking hollywood here, it's pretty accurate but we all know hollywood added a little flavor. But, I want to see Iran's version, because it's going to be extremely biased, lol.
I don't think I was very clear in my previous comment I'm not trying to say its never happens - Anything is possible I was trying to point out that it's not as common as it was sounded out to be & was trying to point out that it's not the fact of their sexuality that they're being punished for but the acts of it which is very hard to gather evidence for However some people fall into the hands of being judged and trialled by very closed minded people which results them in being unfairly punished
Fereshteh makes me so proud to be an Iranian woman. We certainly are not weak, inside or outside of Iran.

I have always admired Persian culture and people.

thank u VICE, from iran
Vice should do a story on movie bootleggers in Iran
I am glad they made him wear a suit. He looks so classy!
this is nice to see!
this guy knows nothing of iran.. terrible journalist to be sent to iran
Iran is mostly a misunderstood country.. Great job btw.. Hope you do more of this type of videos.. :)
Iran may sound bad but Iran was one of the best countries before 1972 but I mean Iran is only being like that coz the Government is protective
it seems that most of the Iranian intellectuals knows English very well.
Agreed, a cut above the other presenters
I love when Shane is the journalist.
I really hope we leave Iran alone...we aka America have already caused and are continuing to cause destruction and suffering in the middle east
i miss my country, i wish the world could come and see what we have to offer
I have come and seen - it is so beautiful! Love Iran

Good stuff
I want to see Iran's version of "Argo".
Why did they put subtitles to that Iranian actor?! He speaks better English than some Americans and he is perfectly understood.
Glad to see a top comment with some intellect behind it for once
IRAN is a beautiful, peaceful country with friendly people persians will never Let this great country get accuppied by enemies Long live IRAN and iranian nation
The children's section is cute
i think vice will be cool with that.. especially seeing how Shane created vice..
Man they have some gorgeous women over there.

Iran may sound bad but Iran was one of the best countries before 17
i agree, shane's my fav. he just has a way of getting himself is situations.
More Shane. He is a great journalist
He's Canadian, not American.
The writing system is similar, the language is different. Which is also the case about Spanish and English for example.
That really shows how powerful words are...
Hey Shane is that gold Rolex real you're wearing? Nobody tried to jack you for it? LOL!
AW C'MON I love the Mothman Prophecies!!
There are many more similarities between people than differences.
The more we learn about other countries the more we find we are alike.
Mainly the citizens aren't reflected in their gov'ts ideal.
This reporter is so fucking awesome!
Iran is the perfect example of a modern well-developed country that is run theocratically. Simple as that people.
Hey Shane, did you ever accidentally flip someone off on your trip?
agree. The governments fight. But actually if the 2 citizens meet up I think it would be fine.
I agree. Do you still live in Iran?
oh Iran really respect tourists

Agreed!
Yeah!
I really hope we leave Iran alone...we aka America have already caused enuff
Iran, you are supercool. i love the president. he is so wise and smart compared to other leaders:)
totally true
Could have asked that actress some proper questions. Slightly embarrassing to see such a poor interview.
This is really old
Shane is a great guy sticking his neck out for us. Keep em coming Vice and thank you Shane.
It's nice to hear a white guy talking about Iran without calling it the source of terrorism or stuff like that.
It would be nice to hear a persian guy talk about a white guy without throwing the word "terrorism" in there.

Also failed to mention the Americans actually switched backing from Iraq to Iran as the war progressed
Nope

He didn't. Britain and US boycotted Iranian oil and imposed sanctions on Iran 160 days after the nationalization.

Mahnaz Afshar is so pretty.
Very sad. Yes there are a lot of heroin addicts here. Lots of different addiction problems. Some day the world will be a better place. Take care.
She is overwhelmed because iran is so strict.
There is way ore heroin addicts in the west.
People do it because they are bored of all the restrictions and life seems hopeless.

Still so biases and incorrect
