  • Just a quick simple review of the Self reliance outfitters Bedroll cooker.
    As the name implies, this cook set is meant to be wrapped up inside the bedroll that you would carry above or below your pack.
    I do love this piece of kit. Very traditional feel.

    I agree with you. That center pole in that cooker needs to be about 6 - 8 " taller.

    I agree that the pole needs to be longer. I had a 34 inch pole made. I often cook over my metal fire pit and not a ground fire. Now I can use it with that. My only complaint as well.

    So, I saw your video because I recently just received my bedroll cookset. I have a solution to the short stake! I took another piece of 5/16” rod the same length, threaded it and the original stake. Used a 5/16” coupler and BOOM! Problem solved for just a few bucks and some sweat equity. I had a 5/16 18 thread die and no handle, so doing it with a crescent wrench was challenging. I am pleased with how it came out, not exactly perfectly straight, but very functional. And the best part is I haven’t done anything like that since I was in metal shop in middle school maybe 45 years ago! LMAO. Good luck! I think it’s a solid solution. Subscribed!

      Have a wonderful new year my friend. Best wishes.

    New to the chan, great and simple review. I agree on the length, but worked that out I think. Not a machinist or metal worker, limited supplies but I cobbled something together I think will work fine. I will have to go double check with my dad-in-law, he has tons of scrap metals and so on, but the concept is sound and simple I think. Just need to put it to all steel.

    Just found your channel. I’m 625. I’m gonna do some binge watching today. I’m an avid camper in Michigan. I love bushcraft stuff although I’m more of a car camper. I try to be minimal and practice survival techniques often. Sometimes in my own backyard but it’s a great backyard lol.

    Looks good. I've recently discovered this product, in a search for ideas to forge something similar myself. I'd make a skillet ring rather than the cooking grate. To solve your height problem, any reason you couldn't source some steel rod of the same diameter, but longer, and grind a point on one end? My only concern would be the added leverage of the pot hanging higher, which will flex/bend the rod to some extent.

    • @kevinthewanderingwoodchuck2586
      @kevinthewanderingwoodchuck2586  Год назад

      I think that is what I may do. Just simply add a peice. A ring would be great to have. A grate could be placed on top of the ring if need be, it would serve both purposes. Great idea my friend. Thanks so much for watching. Best wishes.

    Thanks for video...just got mine and trying to set it up, but seems like I'll have to bend the grate if I run the arms under and over...am I doing something wrong?

    • @kevinthewanderingwoodchuck2586
      @kevinthewanderingwoodchuck2586  Год назад +1

      No, it's designed that way. Once you bend it the first time you won't need to do it again.
      I absolutely love mine. Thanks for watching my friend.
