I've had Quakewave for ages but I picked this guy up and I have no real complaints, he looks and feels like a nice updating of the original G1 toy which is what MPs are all about for me.
I must say, the purple on the takara does make the others look a bit dark. Although I don't think shockwave in the animated series was that light. As always great review, happy new year. 🎄🌠
Fair Review Ben. Personally, I think he tops the 3rd party on looks, but not on production. I will mention a slight error though ref stands. That's quakewave with quakebasts spare none transforming barrel.
If you want dynamic Shockwave, check out Spotlight: Shockwave. Dude takes on a whole squad of heavies by himself. I actually plan on reenacting it when FT's new bot arrives.
I just got it today, so now I have the 3 of them, and sadly it doesnt measure up to the previous versions, unless you're a massive G1 fan and value screen accuracy above all else. Now, I admit I like the Fall of Cybertron-ish colors and detailing of Cloud9's Quake Blast, but personal taste aside, that one is clearly the best product in terms of price over quality (and it even feels sturdier), while Quake Wave remains the highest quality figure in terms of plastics and joints (though I like Laserwave's head best). Also, they built that massive arm that hinders waist movement in order to get rid of partsforming, and then BOOM, partsforming anyway. And hey, no fingers? I'll have to wait for the usual 3rd party hands :/
I havent got him yet, but i still think that his legs are a tad to thin, wouldnt hurt if you could extend the brighter part of the handle to give his legs some more bulk. I think the bright area in his chest is too cluttered, would have been enough with a pink sticker with vertical lines or a lamp function so his light effects could be used for somehting useful. His arms should have been 1 more limb so he can do a proper salute and not just a "block out the sun" pose. The extra hands is a waste of time and plastic, just give him articulated knuckles so he can open up the hand and hold a half decent salute instead. His left hand though is a good edition for those who likes the idea of a retractible gun or a "before the operation" effect.
I really hate that you get the same hands maybe for the left arm is cool since get the light gimmick but the right do we need 2 saluting hands? I think not
mines still AT hlj (for 56 days I have to send it within 4 days lol) I was waiting for Shfiguarts Civil War: Captain America to show first then I'd ship it with Shockwave, ratchet, a Mazinger Z mg kit. Oh yea & ShF Pikachu lol
This would of been such a great masterpiece figure if this didn't seem to be a shutdown of third party figures which were cheaper thoughts it's still an good mold though it should be cheaper....
What's the Kanji on the title say Ben? Also if you remember back in the old toy AND cartoon he had the foot visability so thats just because they want it to look like the animation. ;) Good job on the review bro
I honestly think that the 3rd party Ines are superior- toon accuracy isn't all because a lot of the designs were simplified for the cartoon. IMO it's just laziness, quakeblast or wave looks so much more captivating on a shelf.
+Jetfire48 1. I have never heard of star convoy 2. I'm referring to the 80s cartoon not victory 3. The Autoscout is not pretty. It's her facial deformity that makes him so interesting. The fact that the despite being forced to tickle Buzzsaws pickle for a nickel and being optic fucked by Soundwave she still decided to show everyone that the crystal thing he grabbed kills you shows her perseverance. Thanks to windcharger he got a proper burial...
not a single reviewer has pointed out that right tge joint shockwave's head attatches to is on a pivot to push his head a little more foreward, and a little bit higher. dont believe me? ho ahead and inspect your figure.
+Jetfire48 having looked at that scale. he's shorter than megs but same as a seeker? I pref the comic Shockers who became leader of the cons. I'm sticking with quakeblast as my Shockers.
*Takara making MP Star Saber and Optimus Primal Silly fanboys: WTF is this crap!? Stick with G1 !! *Takara made a G1 animation-accurate MP Shockwave Silly fanboys: WTF is this crap!? He looks so simplistic, like a knockoff toy! --- Good review btw, especially on the neutral standpoint on how the figure has its own ups and downs in comparison to the third party counterparts.
Quakewave: great hefty materials, but his legs didn't have that G1 bell bottom shape. MP Shockwave = Has the look and scale, but materials seem thinner and his feet seem a bit thin. These are the trials and tribulations I have encountered owning both figures.
I really don't think a single TF collector alive in 2023 are brand-loyal to TT. I don't even see how you could be. All brand loyalty is absurd to me, tho.
great review! Also the reason why he comes with a smaller version of himself. tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/thumb/8/85/ShockwaveDesertionOfTheDinobots1.jpg/200px-ShockwaveDesertionOfTheDinobots1.jpg
+Jetfire48 still, we recently got Tracks, Roadrage, Ironhide and red Bumble which were all basically a single solid color and all had paint and finish over their plastic, which MP-29 lacks. At $150 and barely being bigger than Ironhide, we can't help but feel like we're getting a raw deal.
I think he's too short. He stood shoulder to shoulder with Megatron in the comics. I also don't like all the open spaces in alt mode. The bot mode is spot on besides the height.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I will never support third-party productions of TRANSFORMERS figures! I view them tantamount to pirating music and movies (basically I.P. infringement/theft). I will always buy the figures made by the official holders if the property. Quake-whoever looks Pat Lee-Dreamwave-era bloated-proportions to me anyways, so that's a second strike. I have TT Destron Laserwave, and am extremely pleased with everything about it.
+Rodimus75 Third-party does make many figures that would otherwise never get any presentation at all. Like Fall of Cybertron Dinobots, DJD, Hearts of Steel characters, necessary add-ons to existing figures. And MP Shockwave is accurate if you want him to look like he came from the cartoon. Not everyone want's that and that's why Quakewave and Quakeblast have that part covered.
+Ihavethetouch Yes, well, that is all and good. However, I was only speaking for myself in my post. The whole reason for the Masterpiece line, from the beginning, was to make the best toy possible and stay true to the original cartoon aesthetic.
to the KO manufacturers : upsize him 10% and a shade darker. WeiJiang I am looking at you.

Even though is not the first or one of the firsts reviews, I always likes yours, greetings from Colombia, keep the good job
I was nervous to pull the head up but it's on there pretty tight and it's necessary to snap the top of the chest into place.
I must say, the purple on the takara does make the others look a bit dark. Although I don't think shockwave in the animated series was that light. As always great review, happy new year. 🎄🌠
Pretty awesome figure wish it had the glossy purple toy paint scheme color though
8:43 Ah! I think you're the only review that shows the barrel still collapsed in robot mode, and it hides beautifully like that!

This could have been the bomb if it had sound effects. Nice review.

Really hope the Hasbro version has his original toy's darker color scheme.

I wish the toy was made on a rid 2015 budget

Does look cool.
110 dollar figure at most, even as awesomely accurate as he looks.
Great job.
Probably my favourite g1 design
what about star saber? star convoy? fortress maximus? lastly what about autoscout?
+Jetfire48
1. I have never heard of star convoy
2. I'm referring to the 80s cartoon not victory

+Jetfire48 shockwave is also the only character I can actually draw so it I might be biased
+Jetfire48 and I don't like fortress Maximus
+Ben Ulrand uses mastersword to destroy autoscout
not a single reviewer has pointed out that right tge joint shockwave's head attatches to is on a pivot to push his head a little more foreward, and a little bit higher. dont believe me? ho ahead and inspect your figure.
Lol, my grandma had joints that sounded just like shockwave's
the 3rd parties stole a March on Tt. I can't understand the scale here. should shockers not be the same height as Megatron?
naw shockwave was somewhat shorter than megatron in the g1 cartoon check the g1 scale chart to see
+Jetfire48 having looked at that scale. he's shorter than megs but same as a seeker? I pref the comic Shockers who became leader of the cons. I'm sticking with quakeblast as my Shockers.

I prefer the IDW style of Quakeblast
+Alex Ivy same for me, I picked him up right away and his price point is fantastic.
Agreed, Blast is amazing.
Love his darker shade of purple.
what about the holes in the back in gun mode? cheap stickers and cheap hands at $150 plus shipping and handling makes this a money grab......
Haha yeah ive got a few Grandstand converters still.
I really don't think a single TF collector alive in 2023 are brand-loyal to TT. I don't even see how you could be. All brand loyalty is absurd to me, tho.
toon accuracy is not worth paying more for getting less......
+neondarkness I agree.
Werent you the one that said this figure is from Hasbro lol
great review! Also the reason why he comes with a smaller version of himself. tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/thumb/8/85/ShockwaveDesertionOfTheDinobots1.jpg/200px-ShockwaveDesertionOfTheDinobots1.jpg
I really believe this guy is getting a bad rap. And people will regret not getting this guy... he's awesome and I have no regrets getting this guy!
how about mentioning the lack of paint apps?.....
transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Shockwave_(G1)
cartoon accuracy is why there's not many paint app
+Jetfire48 still, we recently got Tracks, Roadrage, Ironhide and red Bumble which were all basically a single solid color and all had paint and finish over their plastic, which MP-29 lacks. At $150 and barely being bigger than Ironhide, we can't help but feel like we're getting a raw deal.
+Extrazero preach! I'm glad others are noticing what's going on. lol
+Extrazero PREACH!!!! no paint apps = not getting my money!!
the bot mode is gorgues
easily the best, most accurate depiction of shockwave, though the third party snobs will never admit this
MrFennstar third party buyers by definition cannot be snobs. If they were they would never buy third party anything.
You're too soft with the critique on the official. Now I just save $160 by not buying a short Decepticon high ranking officer 😆
I think he's too short. He stood shoulder to shoulder with Megatron in the comics. I also don't like all the open spaces in alt mode. The bot mode is spot on besides the height.

way over priced. Nice but only worth $80.00 at most.
