Me too, he is so underrated, right? UFO must be one of the most underrated bands of all time. Thanks for watching and if you can, please subscribe to channel.
Around the time Michael was asked to join UFO, he was approached by The Rolling Stones management to audition. MIck Taylor had just left the band and they needed someone. Michael turned them down because he was afraid from all the rumors he heard about the band. Plus, he feared he'd have the same fate as the late Brian Jones.
I've seen the following guitarists live - Page, Clapton, Beck, Blackmore, Iommi, SRV, Rhoads, EVH, Dimebag, Bonamassa , Michael Schenker and more. Out of all of these, Michael Schenker was the best.
Wow, you are so lucky, man! From that list I only had the chance to see Tony Iommi with Sabbath and it was amazing, because they are my favorite band and Iommi is my favorite guitarist. Thanks for watching and if you can, please subscribe to channel.
I think Schenker was wary of joining bands because of being screwed over by his brother & the business early in his career. The guy was an original not into the fame game who's sound & style was imitated & commercialized for cooperate metal in the 80s & after. That said, Schenker in Motorhead woulda been fuckin KILLER! Fun Fact: The MOTT THE HOOPLE connection was real, in fact Ian Hunter's son & Schenker's son formed a band called The Audio Cartel in Brooklyn Ny in 2007. I remember the name being out there.
Michael was also involved in an attempt for Mott the Hoople to reform in the early '80s. He was a big fan of Mott and Ian Hunter, but it didn't happen for reasons not relating directly to him. He nearly teamed up with Ian Hunter in late '84, but that was the time of the fire at Michael's house.

Michael’s career was blossoming in UFO he had written some incredible licks and riffs with them he participated in 1 of the greatest live albums ever recorded “Strangers in the night” it was a shame that Phil Moog punched him because that ended maybe 2 of the best song writers ever collaboration,Michael is going to go down as a great guitarist who many say was their biggest influence !! He is too much of a leader not a joiner although he did hook up with Ratt briefly which was very cool.

Depends how you define "great." Michael's approach is definitely more old school (very little to none finger tapping or high speed fretboard masturbation from the genre of Hair Metal), but what he does play is done with finesse, precision & grandeur. Take, for example, his solo on "Desert Song" - - on the surface it is very simple, but the way he delivers makes it a thing of majestic beauty. When he really cuts loose such as his extended solo on live renditions of "Rock Bottom," he can give ANY guitar player you can name a run for their money. And I have never witnessed him give a sloppy live performance or have an "off night" - - I cannot say the same regarding nearly all of my other guitar heroes.
