As someone who went straight for BN6 so I can attempt to actually complete the postgame this time, very glad I stumbled upon your video. Saved me a big headache later
There's also the Anubis chip softlock. A certain Request sidequest requires you to use the program advance Poison Pharaoh, which requires the Anubis chip as a component. However, to get an Anubis chip, you need to enter an endgame area that, also, requires Mega Chip Complete. This includes Protoman SP, which you can only get by fighting the Protoman SP boss, that only unlocks if you complete a certain amount of requests (not all, but most). Problem is, BN6 requests can't be cancelled once started, and you can't have more than 1 request going at a time. So if you start that PA request before you can fight Protoman SP, you're locked out of completing it. In the EN version of the game, this has a solution: the BugFrag Trader. Anubis is one of the possible drops from it, so all you need to do is grind Frags and hope. It's the same in the JP version, but there's one, teeny, tiny issue: the BugFrag trader is *deep* in the endgame area, BEHIND the Mega Complete door. This doesn't happen in the EN version because most of the endgame area was trimmed out, so the BugFrag trader was moved to a more early accessible location.
This lock fortunately doesn't happen in the collection thanks to a patch card that specifically references to be used in case this happens. It gives you all of the Protoman chips.

This information was very well documented but I must make a correction. The Boktai content wasn't cut from BN6 just due to the game not coming out in the US. It was cut because the English script was vastly larger than the Japanese and the old GBA cart simply could not fit the extra areas in the game. BN6 itself was already pushing it just for the Japanese release, and the much larger English script absolutely pushed it over the edge. The Boktai thing was just the reason why that in particular was cut. Something had to be cut, so it was the Boktai content as it was deemed unnecessary.
@@RadiativeChester ROM files for emulation can be much larger than the actual storage capacity of an old GBA cartridge, and even flashing them onto modern GBA flash carts doesn't exactly show the truth since those can be made with much higher storage limits as well. I decided to start the Legacy Collection from the start of the series all over again so I haven't gotten back to 6 yet, but I definitely would have fallen for this. It may be side-content, but I have videos on my channel that are over a decade old of me completing each of the Virus Machine challenges, and I most certainly would have done it again when I got back to it. I do find it interesting how oversights like this can lead to unintended consequences down the line, but at least there's a workaround for it. Hopefully it does get patched before more people fall victim to it.
@@doopness785 Not really back then, but it's possible now. This wasn't an issue that existed in the original version of BN6, it's only in the Legacy Collection which is on modern consoles, so it should be easy for Capcom to update it.
@@doopness785 To sum it up, the English version of Battle Network 6 had certain things changed from the Japanese version, one of which being the rewards from a minigame. The Legacy Collection uses the Japanese version of the game as a base, but will still give the rewards that were changed in the English version. This leads to a situation where a certain battle chip becomes impossible to obtain without trading with another player. This was likely an oversight by the developers who wanted to include content that was removed from the GBA versions, but forgot about what was changed to accommodate it.
Calling this a Softlock is a bit inaccurate because a Solflock can generally be fixed by Resetting or Rebooting a game or Console. I would have called this a bricked or corrupted save.
Not really. A softlock is just what the name implies - a situation or circumstance in which the game is technically playable, but you cannot make any progress, be it immediately or after x point in the future. In this case, you're effectively locked out of the postgame content because you need Django 3 in your library for that, meaning that unless you find it, your progress is stumped even though you can actually play like normal. I.e. a bonafide softlock. Corrupted saves aren't nearly comparable, because you can't even _play_ those in the first place.
While less then ideal, you CAN start up the other version of BN6 and get the chip that way if you really have no one else to trade with. Yeah you won't be able to finish it in the first version, but at least you can finish it in one of them for achivements.
Switch version here. Really wish I'd found this earlier. Django 3 is the only mega chip I'm missing. Any trade help would be greatly appreciated. I've been just a bit soured (not a lot, but still a bit) by the fact that I won't be able to complete my mega folder, and thus my desired build (due to the Graveyard 2 door lock), because of this.
Hi, earlier you sent me a reply that you are willing to help me but for some reason can't see your actual post, so I'm answering here. Yes I would very much appreciate it your help!
Can I switch back and forth for the different fights? For example can I switch to English for the one fight to get a second windrack then switch back to Japanese for Django?
Yes. You can change between the languages as you deem fit. All you need to do is be on Japanese while you're doing the gold MrProg battle to get Django3 and avoid the softlock. If you don't care about the other Japanese rewards you can just do them all on English.
There's a glitch where Lan apears in cyberworld idk how but it happened to me in MMBN 4. I'm gonna try to figure out how i did it then i'l upload a vid if i ever get it.
I got soft locked day 1 going through the BBS requests to get all HP and Reg ups then had to hunt every freaking standard and mega chip. Almost completed the virus battler in English and would have been stuck further. Such a stupid thing to not fix this or warn the player not to use the patch card until completing the standard and mega library. All they had to do was give Anubis P as part of the Chaud patch card.
If anyone can share me their mega library folder on switch (im on the switch), i would be very thankful. Im stuck with the Anubis request that i accepted blindly.
Wait, so you can get the first English reward, then switch to get the rest of them? Cause I'm going to be honest, AirSpin1 isn't a great reward and I seem to remember them needing to be beat in order anyways.
Aside from playing online, and the crossover points, is there any other way to get Django 3 in English? Or do I have to switch to Japanese just to make sure I get it?
The Anubis Softlock (which locked out Protoman FZ) is addressed in the Legacy Collection, but getting the softlock mentioned in this video would also lock out the Protoman FZ fight
Can you also cover the soft lock with event quests? There is an event quest where somone needs to see the poison pharaoh program advance, but the only poison seed battle chip is behind the same aforementioned megachip door. The problem? Protomans version number is dependent on basegame sidequest completion. Since you can't cancel a request, you need to get lucky with the 10 chip trader for protoman EX and lucky with graveyard area gold mystery data or trading for Protoman SP. This happened to me in a run in the complete patch version of the GBA game.
I plan to cover it as well. I want to play through BN6 again to verify another quirk that I heard about before I do. In the meantime, yep, the Patch Card for the event quest tells you how to prevent that softlock
Technically yes, but it’s been addressed in the Legacy Collection. The JP GBA games had something called the Anubis Softlock that prevented you from completing a Help Quest needed to unlock Protoman FZ. The Patch Card that adds the quest to the Legacy Collection explicitly tells you how to fix it. But ironically, that softlock affects the same door as the softlock mentioned in this video. So basically, this softlock would also prevent you from finishing the quest (And, I just realized, would stop you from getting a total of 6 title marks instead of 4 - 5 of which are needed to fight the SP final boss). If the softlock mentioned in the video is avoided, then you’ll also avoid the Protoman FZ Anubis Softlock
There’s also a quirk with EN Legacy Collection that stops Protoman from becoming Protoman SP, since the unlock requirements are different in the EN and JP versions. People are still researching it but the fix for that is to complete the 25 default help quests and switch the language to Japanese, then interact with the help quest desk again
@@gaiaphoenixmedia what are the 6 title marks. plus don't you need to also beat all bosses with an S rank to unlock Hub style. forget which BN game that was.
Stupid question but... do you have to have the game in japanese from the moment you get the card until you get the final reward or JUST during the fights?
Honestly that's a good question. I recommend saving in front of the Virus Battler Mr. Progs and changing the language before taking each challenge and keeping it in Japanese until the reward is given. The actual reward is tied to the text itself, but it's a good idea to do it beforehand so you don't accidentally forget
Wow, that means you can't get the platinum trophy in MMBN Legacy Vol 2 if you don't switch the language to Japanese before doing the Virus Battles because of this oversight. I hope Capcom puts out a patch for this volume to fix this. :(
There was an update that states in the notes to "fix getting a different reward for beating this in japanese, english, or chinese" does that mean we're locked out of the unique reward for good?
It fixed the issue mentioned in this video. We'll get the correct reward now as long as our devices (Switch / PS / Steam) have the update loaded. The only reasons the update wouldn't be applied is if players set their updates to manual or if they already received the "wrong" rewards before the update
The fifth Virus Battler challenge is the only one that softlocks the game if you get the wrong reward. The others give an unintended reward if you play the English version, but it won't halt progress
@@gaiaphoenixmedia Right, so save before the fifth challenge, change the language to Japanese, challenge it and change back after claiming the reward. Got it.
Is there any reason you SHOULD get the double english reward instead of a jp reward? (obviously not including django) EDIT: Oh wow you even took the initiative to pre-emptively answer this question, YOU ROCK!
I haven’t found evidence that the Django series is obtainable from the BugFrag Trader, but that may be possible for players without online access. Sadly, even if it is, the chances are statistically low that Django3 will drop from it since its list has most of the chips in the game. For players with online access, Boktai Trader and multiplayer trading/comparing are much faster
@@gaiaphoenixmedia you can also get Django from the crossover machine where you spend the coins obtained from winning ranked battles. Odds are a little low.
Can't get online due to playing on Switch and refusing to pay for Nintendo's online services. I already used the free trial, so online is not possible. Local is not possible either because I don't know anyone else who owns a Switch. This has not been patched over 2 months later. I refuse to believe that this bug would take multiple months to fix, so my impression is that Capcom just isn't going to fix it. With how quickly this game sold out, this should be a priority for Capcom, but clearly, it isn't.
The side quest can start as early as Chapter 3, but it doesn’t softlock you until the postgame. Most people don’t find the initial NPC during the story though
Hello! Can anyone help me out with Anubis P? I’m soft locked unfortunately.. I’m on Steam, available almost anytime really but I am PST time zone. Please any help is appreciated! Thank you for the video
The side quest can begin as early as Chapter 3, but the fifth battle in the side quest isn't accessible until close to the end of the story. You can start it by talking to a Navi in Class 1-2's computer (I believe it's the blackboard)
You will. For whatever reason, the rewards are tied to the text itself and not the encounter as some people have learned by looking at the game's code. If it sees the English text being used, it'll grab the English rewards.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Django3 Softlock has been patched!
However, it's important to note that the update will only apply to those who HAVE NOT fought the last Virus Battler yet. Those who already received the rewards (specifically the final one) will still need to connect with another game to fix the softlock.

Yep, via a Patch Card and via Number Trader with the code: 72794137
Flawless recreation XD
Very important video. Hopefully this can get patched.
If anyone can share me their mega library folder on switch (im on the switch), i would be very thankful. Im stuck with the Anubis request that i accepted blindly.
What if you purchase the chip from Tab would you be okay then?
It's not the same chip. There's Django1, Django2 and Django3 in BN6. The 3rd one can only be obtained via Virus Battle and from the crossover trader.
@@elquiltro92 okie cool thank you very much wasnt sure exactly
@@elquiltro92 and if you compare library's with someone else that has it you can use the chip orderer.
Wait, so you can get the first English reward, then switch to get the rest of them? Cause I'm going to be honest, AirSpin1 isn't a great reward and I seem to remember them needing to be beat in order anyways.
Do you have to avoid the entire quest, or only the one battle that drops Django3?
There’s also a Patch Card that gives the three Django chips, if I remember right
There’s a Django Patch Card that gives stats and abilities, but unfortunately not one that gives the chips. I wish there was
Nooo I just updated like 2 days ago & they patched it I was planning on getting 2 Windracks Lol.
To be fair with a few ways to get around it it isnt entirely a softlock until the service goes down.
Aside from playing online, and the crossover points, is there any other way to get Django 3 in English? Or do I have to switch to Japanese just to make sure I get it?
if you play alone only wink wink just that way is possibly
Supposedly theres also a chance that u cant unlock protoman FZ in english as well
The Anubis Softlock (which locked out Protoman FZ) is addressed in the Legacy Collection, but getting the softlock mentioned in this video would also lock out the Protoman FZ fight
Doesn't the Otenko Crossover Point trader give a chance to get Django 3?
Nice i watched this after soft locking myself and have no one to compare files with😭😭
Same im trapped
If anyone has django 3 and can help us that would be much appreciated. I am on ps4 gregar
If any of y’all are on steam I pulled it from the boktai point trader
@@credorn4590 I would need this i also have steam. Any chance you could help me?
Thank you!
There's a Patch Card to get all the ProtoMan chips. It even recommends you to do this before you do the quest
I plan to cover it as well. I want to play through BN6 again to verify another quirk that I heard about before I do. In the meantime, yep, the Patch Card for the event quest tells you how to prevent that softlock
@@gaiaphoenixmedia oh wow! I was unaware of that patch card! Glad it's included
Good to know, thanks!
Play One Step from Eden
is there also a protoman FZ softlock? i only heard rumors about it, but I'm not taking any chances.
@gaiaphoenixmedia shit. So essentially its impossible to get the exclusive japanese reward now?
Nope, exact opposite. The rewards are now set to the Japanese rewards in all languages of the Legacy Collection, effectively fixing the glitch
@@gaiaphoenixmedia oh thats rad! Thanks for the speedy responses
Thank you
So do you have to switch languages starting with the first virus buster side quest or or switch languages just at the fifth side quest?
The fifth Virus Battler challenge is the only one that softlocks the game if you get the wrong reward. The others give an unintended reward if you play the English version, but it won't halt progress
@@gaiaphoenixmedia Right, so save before the fifth challenge, change the language to Japanese, challenge it and change back after claiming the reward. Got it.
good stuff
Is there any reason you SHOULD get the double english reward instead of a jp reward? (obviously not including django)
EDIT: Oh wow you even took the initiative to pre-emptively answer this question, YOU ROCK!
There is a soft lock in the English fan translation of the jp gba game too. It’s really annoying
Aww man there was a Boktai 3!?!
im also lil confused so we switch lang to avoid getting that Django3 card for the last reward and get supr vulc instead
You switch language [to japanese] to avoid getting SuprVulc, and get Django 3 instead.
@@TWLSpark ya i saw diff vid i figured it out thanks
Well shame baktai 3 never made it to states, i loved the second game
Can you do this on the switch because I’m pretty sure you can’t change languages on Switch version….
Yep, it's in the settings before you boot up each game
Anyone have django3 that wants to do a library comparison I’m on switch
I do, on switch. Let me know when your ready.
Can i buy every chip from Tab if i compared libraries with someone who got every chip in the game?
Yep, every chip except for Giga Chips
Underground can be exploited from the bugfrag trader as well dis that before too
I haven’t found evidence that the Django series is obtainable from the BugFrag Trader, but that may be possible for players without online access.
Shoulda clarified quickly that this is for mmbn6 but neat video
Added it to the title
Ok but what game does this track play in and when specifically. I think it’s a Bass theme or something in some off shoot game
RockMan.Exe 4.5 Boss Theme. It was a JP only release and wasn’t part of the collection since its gameplay is completely different
At what part of the game do you run into this side quest? End game or earlier? Just for reference.
The side quest can start as early as Chapter 3, but it doesn’t softlock you until the postgame. Most people don’t find the initial NPC during the story though
@@gaiaphoenixmedia OK perfect. Just gonna keep my eye on it past c3 then. Thank you very much! Greatly appreciate the help!
Hello! Can anyone help me out with Anubis P? I’m soft locked unfortunately.. I’m on Steam, available almost anytime really but I am PST time zone. Please any help is appreciated!
Thank you for the video
Are the other games aside from 6 perfectly playable?
Yep, the other games are softlock free
Still doesn't make sense when is that battle int he game?
The side quest can begin as early as Chapter 3, but the fifth battle in the side quest isn't accessible until close to the end of the story. You can start it by talking to a Navi in Class 1-2's computer (I believe it's the blackboard)
If I have the japanese game but playing in english, I will have the same problem?
You will. For whatever reason, the rewards are tied to the text itself and not the encounter as some people have learned by looking at the game's code. If it sees the English text being used, it'll grab the English rewards.
FamousXeno is correct, the English rewards will be given if you’re playing in English regardless of the cartridge’s native language
