    Enjoy the Sirius again. 👍 I've had it for 15 years now. Enjoy it. I also use Crutchfield. I've been shopping there for 25+ years. I use to live in Virginia and went by their Charlottesville store on occasion. It's like a toy store for me. They always took care of me of I had any issues. Highly recommend them.
    Take care. Great video. 👍👍

    I do not think so. I do believe that you can only use one port at a time.
    I do know that you can still use blue-tooth for your phone at the same time while the VAIS Control module is plugged in to the USB port.

    • @HowtowithPaulHenderson

      You could try it and maybe it might work maybe it might not. Other option is just pull the VAIS USB cable out when you want to use apple carplay. But like I said in the other reply you can still use your phone through Bluetooth. I don't have any way to check this out since I have Android auto.

    Great video! I bought a new 2020 Sierra and have been using the XM app on my phone and wondered if there was a better “factory” setup. One question, can you still use the factory USB-C port for Apple CarPlay?

      Sorry I never replied to your question.... I do remember Reading your question and I could have sworn I answered it. Anyway I do not know if you can, I don't have anything with USB C, everything I read sounds like you can't. I don't have my phone linked to my infotainment system anymore it was too annoying. It would control the fan speed for the AC when I received the call it was always connecting to Bluetooth the wrong time. just a pain in the butt... But it happened to find out let me know kind of curious

    I really enjoyed your video Paul! I bought my car and it is not Sirius XM equipped and I was very disappointed. I want to add Sirius XM for my car without adding any wires or adding a portable radio and the radio that came with my car did not come with XM. I wanted to ask what’s so special about the cars you buy that come with XM and that ones that don’t. I’m actually disappointed that my car doesn’t have that feature and I didn’t want to add any hardwires or plug in my phone which is inconvenient. I’m in the same boat as you are the dealership told me that it was XM ready and it wasn’t. What is so special about the actual car models that are xm ready vs the portable xm radios that you have to install yourself?

    • @HowtowithPaulHenderson
      @HowtowithPaulHenderson  Год назад

      I Able
      So the two things I installed to make my vehicle pretty much XM ready was very easy to install and the only wire that you can see is the one that plugs into the USB port for the infotainment system.
      Using the XM from the phone sucks because it's only going to work where you have cell phone service.
      If you go to a stereo shop they can install it for you I'm sure it won't be over 120 bucks for the installation fee.
      So you'll need the XM car tuner and the VAIS control module.
      I've never had any issues with either of the two systems and the only wire that I can see is the one that plugs into the USB port that goes into the entertainment system.
      I don't use that USB port for anything else I don't plug my phone in there I don't listen to music from my phone through that port So for me to have the VAIS control module plugged into it is no big deal to me.
      I do have the Android Auto app, I used it quite a few times prior to installing the VAIS module and XM tuner and never really did like it So I will never use that again.

      Glad it helped with your install... They do sell a Vais USB add-on Port at crutchfield that plugs directly into the Vais control module that you can use for charging your cell phone or GPS. I bought a USB y splitter from Amazon might be about a footlong and I ran the excess cable underneath the floor liner and it pops out kind of out of sight so you'll have either one or two extra power ports. And also on Amazon they have some USB to USB adapters that are on an angle to where the cable will point straight down. looks a little cleaner.

    Question my man. Why connect the power wires to a "constant" power supply and not an "accessory" power supply that's only on with the key on? Much appreciated amigo! Good video, helps a lot, thanks.

    • @HowtowithPaulHenderson
      @HowtowithPaulHenderson  3 года назад +1

      I'm pretty sure the unit needs power all the time. The same reason the vehicles stereo system needs a constant power supply for memory retention of the stations and for quick start up.. I'm sure it doesn't draw much power for the memory for the stations and I know for sure that when the VAIS Control Module is off there is no power supplied to the USB accessory port cable that is an option too buy and add it to the VAIS Module.
      I hope this answers your question. Almost two years old and zero problem with these two units...

    Great video, I have a 2019 Chevy Silverado that has a satellite antenna already installed on my truck but does not have XM radio. (worst decision that
    decision that GM made on these new trucks, my salesman never told me about that until the deal was done. Question is can I use the built in antenna with the VAIS system as opposed to putting in the magnetic mounted one.

    • @HowtowithPaulHenderson
      @HowtowithPaulHenderson  3 года назад +1

      Maybe, but The Vais Module is not a stand alone unit it must be paired with the Suirus/Xm connect tuner and it's he XM tuner that has the antenna lead wire, I'm not sure if my Silverado came with an XM antenna. BUT... I wouldn't be surprised if they did install an SUIUS/XM antenna even if the truck didn't have XM. I would think if there was a wire to plug into it might be behind the glove box, I saw a lot of wires and some modules in that area and I do believe some of it is for the radio and infotainment system.. Don't quote me on that...
      The XM antenna is pretty small, if you don't want to run it outside you can try placing it on the dash for awhile to see how the signal reception works from there....

      I'm not sure why you don't have the full line up on your XM Tuner. my used 06 Silverado I had bought in 2012 had my old XM radio from my 89 pontiac firebird that I kept when I sold the Firebird in 2012. There are different packages you can buy from Sirius/XM. so maybe that's why your not getting the full line up.
