I found the end the best advice. Travel your own country first. As I'm from europe it's very easy to cross over to the next country, no need for visa or insurance. Traveled all over Asia aswell, but there I never crossed the border on a motorbike, just on a bicycle😂. Bought a scooter in Suamtra, drove all the way to Komoto Island and back to Jakarta where I sold it again. Same in India with an Entfield 350, was easy to buy 25 Years ago. Another bike I bought in Australia XT 600, there a scooter would have been useless in the dessert. It was a great way to travel and I always had the perfect bike for each country and everbody could fix it for peanuts.
Its a lot easier to cross borders if you are a holder of one of the most powerful passport. And of course proper documents. Please do take care and have fun.
All of these boring and expensive paperworks disturb my dream to travel from Germany to Cambodia. I live in Cambodia already , so I decided to travel to Thailand ,Laos, Vietnam and Malaysia only.
It really depends on the country. It is easy to register a vehicle as a nonresident in some countries , in some countries. It is difficult. You need to research

What about vehicle registration if you buy a moped in a country you aren't from?
