Fu Manchu has been a band that for forever I'll put on one of their albums and just tune out, but I never really looked much into who they were or anything like that. Cool to see that they seem like good guys with good musical tastes outside of their scene.
Fu Manchu are my fave band. Seen them several times. This recommended out of the blue! Am stoked that Bob chose John Carpenter. Off to see JC next month. Sweet!
In my eyes, once I discovered them in '99 or so, Fu Manchu could do no wrong. The first time I saw them live in 2012, here in Finland though, I was kind of let down by them. Don't get me wrong, it was awesome to hear all those great tracks live, and I went nuts during all of them. It's just that the band couldn't look more jaded if they tried. Scott and Brad especially looked like they couldn't wait for the show to be over. It just might be a part of their cool, nonchalant stoner image, but I was a bit put off by it. Regardless, you really shouldn't hesitate to see them live!
Saw Fu Manchu and Sleep at the 2018 edition of Muddy Roots and honestly, Fu Manchu stole the show with half the amps. Sleep was good but Fu Manchu's energy was unreal.
I first saw Fu Manchu live in 98 at the Reading Festival, Ana they were fucking amazing. I didn’t see them again until last year in Denver, and they were just as amazing. There aren’t many bands even still going after 20 years, let alone still sounding just as good.
I saw Fu in 2008 at an old defunct club in Wilmington, N.C. called The Soapbox. It was part bar, part laundromat and music club. Walmart was selling O.P. shirts at the time and had to go out and stock up on them. I still have and wear them. I always thought B'last was second-rate Black Flag. I was wrong. I really like that Carpenter compilation as well. He wrote some great keyboard-based soundtracks. Love his movies.
Aaaand the inevitable jazz record comes out! It happens every time on this show. They can be interviewing the most extreme black metal band and inevitably one of them will always pop out some obscure jazz record :D Nothing against jazz at all, it's just become kind of a funny trope to me at this point.
Funny cause these guys make super heavy loud music (& a bad brains reference) but the Jerry Garcia thing with Crosby sounds like the best thing right now 2022
Blast ....surf and destroy....showed that video 86....on Nite Flite. I was 16 with the Another State of Mind documentary.....and early Bad Brains and Sonic Youth videos.....something good to watch on a Friday night.
Crom! California is "Heaven and Hell" at the same time! PS I had to scrap my car for a burned cylinder head but I kept the trunk because there is an awesome Amoeba Records sticker that I've got in 2006 on the Sunset Strip!!!!
I really dig Fu Manchu but never looked into the names of the guys, apparently there are two Scott Reeders in Stoner Rock. Scott Reeder is a killer drummer, but Scott Reeder is one of my all time favorite bassists.
If you love Fu then check out Tumbleweed from Oz.....start with Daddy Long Legs....then the Galactaphonic album....high octane groove rock....thank me later
The Action Is Go is one of the greatest rock albums ever, they were in fucking beast mode when they had Brant Bjork from Kyuss on the drums.
For sure
This band doesn't have a single bad album, The Action Is Go and King Of The Road are killer.
Yes, but I also like "Godzilla's Eatin' Dust"
The Action is Go and In Search of are freaking awesome.
Agreed on Brant, but Scott Reeder here rules just as hard !
Best band ever. Saw them in London Saturday and am still blown away
Seeing them in London tonight after seeing them in Brighton a decade ago. They were amazing then and I'm sure they still are now
Fu Manchu has been a band that for forever I'll put on one of their albums and just tune out, but I never really looked much into who they were or anything like that. Cool to see that they seem like good guys with good musical tastes outside of their scene.
Same here
I love Fu Manchu, I hope I can watch them live one day
Fu Manchu are such a cool stoner rock. Their album Clone of the Universe is one of my favorite metal records this year.
If you ever get the chance to see them live go. They are really good!
Love these guys! One of my favorite bands of all time.
Bonus points for the Zappa, John Carpenter and Wes Montgomery album grabs lol
Never heard the music of Fu Manchu before but they all have great taste & nice personalities- I will give them a listen!

@@garse70 You misspelled "Billabong"
Hell yes! Metal, stoner and alternative bands always have the coolest picks.
Fuckin' love these guys, they've written some of my favorite riffs of all time! High energy, flying down the open road, pedal to the metal r n' r!
Bad Brains and Wipers, probably two of my favorite Punk bands ever!
Fu Manchu are my fave band. Seen them several times. This recommended out of the blue! Am stoked that Bob chose John Carpenter. Off to see JC next month. Sweet!
I freaking love Fu Manchu.
That Wes Montgomery record is a gem!
All Wes Montgomery
So true
I love this Band, Fu manchu is masterpiece
still recovering form the Berlin show last weekend
How were they? Not seen them for a decade but watching them tonight!
America's greatest unsung bands! these guys should be stars!
They are stars! They're huge
Seen them live and they were very good.
Anything that Scott Hill pull out of his bag you can trust,is good stuff.
If you ever get a chance to see Fu, Nebula or Sleep, don't hesitate.

Saw them all this year (Fu for the third time). Damn great shows.
saw the open for type o negative back in like 99 or something
Nebula and Sleep already on the list, Fu to go!
Saw Fu Manchu and Sleep at the 2018 edition of Muddy Roots and honestly, Fu Manchu stole the show with half the amps. Sleep was good but Fu Manchu's energy was unreal.
Dude holy shit I never thought I’d see my favorite band on here.
Fu Manchu rocks! Have every one of their albums. Sending much love from Oklahoma.
Proof postive that people from HARDCORE PUNK AND METAL backgrounds have the most diverse musical tastes.
Matthew Burrows I always feel people that listen to heavy music are way more open minded
I could easily hang out with these dudes for weeks and we'd have a good time listening to hardcore, jazz and psych.
Fu Manchu rules! Listened to King of the Road album about 1,000 times.
Fu Manchu are one of the greatest stoner rock bands The Action is go is one of the not only stoner rock records of all time. Good evening everybody
Kyuss? Kyuss!
Good choices. Moody Blues & Pink Floyd! 2 of my favorite bands.
I also agree that Feel Flows is a wonderful song.
One of the best stoner bands, ever.
This is the first Ameoba I've seen; recommended because I've been binging Fu gigs on RUclips. Bloody awesome.
My fave stoner rock band currently! Love these guys!
I first saw Fu Manchu live in 98 at the Reading Festival, Ana they were fucking amazing. I didn’t see them again until last year in Denver, and they were just as amazing. There aren’t many bands even still going after 20 years, let alone still sounding just as good.
I've listened to Fu Manchu for years and did not see this coming lol. Good shjt
xD all of them got bluesy mellow and soundtracks. And scott hill just like yeah heavy punk rock and sci fi.
By far the best episode. Very eclectic choices.
I saw Fu in 2008 at an old defunct club in Wilmington, N.C. called The Soapbox. It was part bar, part laundromat and music club. Bob Balch is just plain deadly with a guitar and he's hilarious.
Awesome band. New album is great
Scott Hill portrayed by John Travolta
Brad makes cool pedals!
Come back to the lookout in Scarborough in Western Australia if you still remember us 😎😎😎
Their music brings me so much joy and they just really seem like nice chill dudes. Love that :) aaand you can‘t go wrong with John Carpenter.
Why is Danny Carey and Gary Holt in Fu Manchu? 😂😂 we have musical doppelgängers on the loose
Great Band all around.
Wow. I'm impressed with the diverse range of tastes Fu have - everything from Wes Montogomery to David Crosby to…Planet of the Apes!
Aaaand the inevitable jazz record comes out! It happens every time on this show. Fu Manchu - the Tarantinos of hard rock.
Yeah Scott!
Love some Bad Brains.
I need that, and Cro-Mags Age of Quarrel on vinyl.
He brings out the Wes record and then the Slayer one haha He's gained my respect!
Great guys
Scott Reeder looks like a hilarious guy, love to have a beer with him
What a trip, I just bought The Omega Man at Amoeba in LA last weekend!
Really Cool, Scott! I love The Planet of the Apes too!
Yes!! Best band ever!!!
This is awesome I took guitar lessons from Bob he's a genius.
I don't have money to buy music these days, but these WIMB videos really makes me want to go cratedigging.
Ameoba is pricey. Too pricey. I always hope to get lucky at a thrift store or goodwill.
Blast ....surf and destroy....showed that video 86....on Nite Flite. I was 16 with the Another State of Mind documentary.....and early Bad Brains and Sonic Youth videos.....something good to watch on a Friday night.
Why does Scott always look like he just got out of the shower?
And what conditioner does he use?
@@bamslackwood433 imma say, just conditioner - no shampoo
I believe he was a Pro Wrestler in a past life.
he just got done surfin..dude!!!
That’s hilarious 😂
Coolest band on earth, period
Anybody else not surprised by Scott's first pick? Love these guys
by not surprised, do you mean surprised?
Nope I didn't. Dude named one of their songs "Laserbl'ast!"
Even though I prefer the Eddie and Ruben era of fu manchu the later lineups are still so killer, good shit lads.
2:25, can't go wrong with "john carpenter", I want it!
the John Carpenter anthology won everything. superb choice
Rockin' the Mos Generator shirt! Very cool.
Amoeba and Fu Manchu.... uuuuuuuuuuuh that's a match made in Heaven... or California...
California is Heaven isn’t it? With all the fires it’s easy to get confused.
Crom! California is "Heaven and Hell" at the same time!
PS I had to scrap my car for a burned cylinder head but I kept the trunk because there is an awesome Amoeba Records sticker that I've got in 2006 on the Sunset Strip!!!!
I love these videos 'cause I found a lot of good fuckin music.
Keep on the good work guys!
that Zappa Roxy boxset is incredible
NO.
You just put me onto the Wipers, thank you!
These guys are my superheroes. Great pick for Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
these guys just jumped up on my cool spectrum holy fuck those are some good picks
Just to let you know all your videos most of these on vinyl are now on my watch/buy list - thanx :)
I was just listening to them on Pandora when I got the notification for this
Love this band
This band is the metaphoric cliche lyric leader of free world. Awesome.
Rad selections, planning on seeing them in November.
me and scott hill need to go record shopping
Always satisfying to see rock-metal bands pick out a wide variate of genres. Not just tough, hard records.
Nice picks Brad and Scott! Checking out that Blue Jays album now. Amazing! Thanks dudes
John Carpenter Anthology. FUCK. YEAH. And the Mondo collector's edition of JAWS. Awesome
Wasn't expecting those picks from Fu Manchu.
Gday from South Australia people, stay cool and punk out
I have tickets to see Fu Manchu this September and I'm really hoping it won't be postponed over concerns about the coronavirus.
They seem to be not only a band but real friends.
My 12 year old son loves that Bad Brains record.
Well done Pop! Get the kiddies into the good stuff.
You're a cool dad
That's good parenting right there.
Smart kid
I loved it at 12 too ;) some of us are fortunate enough to be raised on proper music lol
That John Carpenter Anthology is legit, it's hilarious that a movie director basically spawned a music genre by himself.
0:11 Damn Scott has lost some wei .. ait ah yes that's right there's no Desert Rockband worth it's salt without a Scott Reeder
I really dig Fu Manchu but never looked into the names of the guys, apparently there are two Scott Reeders in Stoner Rock. Scott Reeder is a killer drummer, but Scott Reeder is one of my all time favorite bassists.
That's why I was never a fan of Monster Magent. Not enough Scott Reeder.
Roddie McDowell is off the hook!!!!!!.. anyone with a brain has got to love that man's memory and legacy!!
Love Chester Thompson & Unknown Mortal Orchestra!!
Best band in the world. no question.
Really nice diverse selection! 100% dig the last album!
Wes Montgomery is LEGEND
If you love Fu then check out Tumbleweed from Oz.....start with Daddy Long Legs....then the Galactaphonic album....high octane groove rock....thank me later
Nice! I remember asking for this a while ago... cool!
Just as I post my last comment he pulls out Unknown Mortal Orchestra! You guys rock!
"this guy Wes Montgomery"
This guy Leonard Da Vinci
They should tour with melvins.
Good cross-section of stuff!
If you guys could bring Death Grips to the show, it would be sick!
only zach would talk
They're touring the PNW in early November!
Been waiting for this for a long time!
