Oh my goodness, I am 1st generation Italian American both my parents immigrated here from Italy and yes we put carrots in our tomato sauce for the sweetness. This is hilarious 😂❤
My mom taught me the carrot trick. She learned it from her mom etc. Since they're both 100% Italian, I never questioned it, and I always add carrots to my tomato sauce too. :)
Love this! How you talk about the difference between the kinds of tomatoes🙋🏼♀️🌱 I have to try this, also love how it’s a complete meal, veggies, protein, fiber, carbs, healthy fats, it will be perfectly satiating😌 and I like how you don’t have to point out that it’s vegan and super healthy, but that it just intrigues one to try it out because of the flavor and the love that went into it✨🫶🏼
My Italians friends who run their catering company and have had restaurants use a small amount of carrots in their sauce and they ares total Italian. They don't use onions though.. lots of of garlic, some grated carrot so that it beaks down completely and you don't even know it's there.. quite a glug of olive oil and a little bit of fresh torn basin towards the end...sometimes a small splash of vinegar.. it's divine.. as if all italiaes are all the same and don't have regional differences..
"I know what you're thinking: anathema, right?" It's actually /əˈnaTHəmə/ (An-nath-emma for those uninitiated into pronunciation guide characters). Oddly, I've heard the same mispronunciation of this word from half a dozen people over the years. I think most learn it while reading only since it's somewhat esoteric and it seems everyone wants to pronounce it with the same "theme-a" emphasis in it. Anyway, I love your videos and your sauce looks wonderful. Thanks for the content!
In her earlier videos, it was because her fiance was vegan and she tried it out because he was already doing it. And then it just stuck. If I remember correctly, the animal/environmental concerns were learnt about after she went vegan, or during the transition. I think it's sweet.
@@gigicaresse503 Oh YES! To support someone else! A great reason indeed. That’s actually how our journey started when our 10-year-old wanted to make a change and brought us on that journey.
Yeah, you have to get really sweet tomatoes in order to enjoy them raw---or really like tomatoes!! My parents would often eat tomatoes but only with sugar sprinkled onto them!

Loved this video, Joanne! Can't wait to make my red sauce! 🙂
I usually keep the skin on for the fiber content. It’s great to know that antioxidants are in the skin. Thank you.

Laughing at cultural appropriated carrots instead of bowing down to appease? I'm an instant fan!
I hope whoever said that was joking lol
I don't usually eat any meat alternatives except that sausage!

My Canadian-Italian Godmother taught me to put carrots in sauce. Today we had puttanesca. 😉😘
Google translate says it's olives, capers, and anchovies, but that's not what it means. 😂
How do you store the remaining red sauce?
💕
Can you post the recipe? Thank you!
Hey
I’m just curious! Did you become vegan for animal ethics or environmental concerns ? 🌱
Cheers from San Diego California 😊
Or health/illness, or religion, or finances…

I used to hate tomatoes when they gave it out o us in primary school now I like them and realize I hated them cause we were forced to eat them raw😅

Cultural appropriation? It’s called fusion.
