This is the truest 1911 pistol I have seen outside the army. Colt no longer makes the true GI model. I have two of these and love them.

The Springfield Armory m1911 a1 Mil-Spec is closer to my wwII 1911. IMO. And better built. Rock Islands built in the Philippines

You make it look easy for some guns it is not. even installing the slide-stop it has to be lined just right to snap in place, you may want to use a hammer BUT do not keep trying, The other day it took me 2 hours to get a trigger assembly in a shotgun, sometimes it is a pain the ass.

RIA's aren't meant to be safe queens ;-)
A scratched bushing means you love your 1911! However I do have one of those WC plastic bushing wrenches, but that's only because I'm an accessory junkie lol

My M1911-A1 FS has an ambidextrous safety. Search RUclips for: 1911: Rock Island 1911: Ambi Safety and Removal - for extra detail. Just bought it used and wanted to clean it prior to going to the range.

My rock island (56472) has different wood grips. They feel like they are glued to the gun after I unscrew them I expected them to come right off. Also they look and feel like they don't have a finish on them while I really enjoy the feel of that I know I need to remove before cleaning. Perhaps I need to just try harder to take the grips off but this is my first 1911. I'm always hesitant with a new gun. I'd hate for them to break. I'm going shooting tomorrow

I about crapped my pants when he took a screwdriver to push the slide spring to turn the barrel guide. You need zero tools especially metal tools to field strip a 1911.

Wouldn't it be better to use a brass hammer and pin punch in order to not damage anything?

My RIA 1911 is completely different so this video is of no use. Can't find anything for my model on your site.

Not a complete disassembly as claimed ... He did not pull out that tiny safety plunger spring assembly that goes into that tiny tube on the upper left hand side. Mine failed (weak spring I suppose), did not lock the thumb safety properly in place, and eventually got the thumb safety near the pivot point cracked. We only realized what had happened after the latter cracked and fell off during shooting. Had to buy a replacement for both.

This is a link from Armscor website. They recommend replacing the main spring every 800-5000 rounds depending on the model. But they don't show you how to remove the main spring from the main spring housing in this video. WTF

For some reason my 1911 rock Island compact is different as I have to pull the pin and remove the slide first THEN i have to use a paper clip to help remove the inside part that you removed first. As a Rock Island armory owner trying to figure this out I am already very disappointed in this non-helpful video.
