Young Sheldon Season 5 Episode 4
Young Sheldon is an American comedy television series on CBS created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro. The series is a spin-off prequel to The Big Bang Theory and begins with the character Sheldon Cooper at the age of nine, living with his family in East Texas and going to high school. Iain Armitage stars as young Sheldon, alongside Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, and Annie Potts. Jim Parsons, who portrays the adult Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, narrates the series and serves as an executive producer.

@Out of context probably. Honestly post-docs are underpaid even in the STEM fields, honestly kinda depressing that you need over 10+ years of higher level education and you don't even make 6 figures. Each major and career is different though.

I am just glad that he didn’t say ‘Get out of the vehicle’ when she broke up with him while driving.
I honestly think him not saying that is already a dumb decision.
Georgie is a little gentleman. He wouldn't do that.
@Christopher Bingham why would you do that
@Christopher Bingham thats just a dick move, youre already driving her and youre gonna kick her out because she broke up with you ? I mean if she was causing a commotion or something yeah but if its like this in the video it just seems childish.
@Christopher Bingham it is not a "further obligation". If you picked a person up you are responsible to bring her safely home. She would not have gotted into your car if she did not trust you. You are coming across as petty and mean.
It's not about a diploma. It's about Georgie actually KNOWING what he wants to do in life and what makes him happy. Very few people actually know themselves that young and ACTUALLY work on it. Most people are like... oh I'm too young, I'll just party... Georgie is rare...
but its not only about knowing what you want to do, its also about how to achieve it. in an ideal world (which he lives in since its fictional) he doesnt need his diploma because his buisness ideas will go well and he will become sucessful. but with a high school diploma he has something to fall back on if those plans dont work out for him. i dont know how far away he was from graduating, but assuming hes a year away from graduation, that extra year wont cost him a whole lot in terms of work hours since he still works outside of school and he then has a high school diploma to access higher paying jobs if he needs to. its just about getting additional options for later even if you dont use them.
@@philip8498 This takes place in the past where dropping out of an education is more viable than today.
This is a show. Tell me how many bosses in the industry will take kids who dropped out of highschool, not COLLEGE. Many consider it sign of lack of commitment or sense of responsibility. Also, how an earth will that help your career?
The way I see it, if my child came to me and wanted to drop out of school, I'd let them as long as they know what they want to do in life, how to achieve their goal, a means to achieve it and the motivation to achieve the aforementioned goal.
If you're gonna just drop out of school because of laziness, then that's a problem that needs to be addressed.
Georgie makes the differences between a successful person with a college degree and a successful high school dropout, both of these type of people find the opportunities in themselves and take advantage of it, Sheldon is now a world-class scientist with a Nobel Physics Prize, and Georgie is a successful entrepreneur and businessman selling the most tires in Texas.
"Fine, as a workin' man, I shouldn't be dating a high school girl anyway. It's immature."
Boy, that's kind of a burn.
Georgie isn't exactly one to talk about maturity yet, but he's right about Jana being immature. I mean, worrying about his life and future is one thing, but she's worried about trivial shit like prom and yearbook titles.

Y'all do realize you have to think from a parents perspective? Your kid wants to drop out of highschool, that's a huge red flag. Y'all mention how people can be successful without a formal education background, which I agree, but how many times does that acutally happen and works? Statistically getting a highschool diploma gets more access to higher paying jobs, and that applies to this show's context in the 80s and 90s.
idk as long as you have a clear path and arent just dropping out cause you hate school. Like if you drop out and become an apprentice to an electrician/plumber/any other trade, you can still be successful and make good money, gaining an extra year or twos worth of salary on top of it
I agree, although in the context of the show, Georgie already showed he’s a natural sales man in many occasions like meemaw says, he has a clear path in the terms of money winning potential.
@@greninja3402
^^^ This.
I like how you pointed out that it's not just about whether or not someone drops out of school, but what was their motivation or rationale for doing so. Did they drop out simply because they didn't feel like being in school, but had nothing constructive or productive to replace it with and they're just lazing around? Or did they get an opportunity somewhere else, and decide that this was more helpful to building the kind of future and life they want to live?
Georgie quit because he just wanted to focus on work and the content he was being pushed to learn in school wasn't really contributing to that. Now sure, a diploma is helpful to have for building one's career, but not finishing high school is not the end of the world. One can go back and get their GED if dropping out turned out to be a mistake for them. It's not like you get one chance at completing high school and if you don't get it the first time, you never ever will.
So while one can point out the statistics of how well people who finished high school do in their careers and in life versus people who dropped out, we have to consider the possibility that perhaps a good portion of those who dropped out probably had less success and satisfaction in their life for other reasons that either caused them to drop out, or mixed with the impact of their life that dropping out had. A person who dropped out because they want to go to work or the military or a trade earlier and with more zeal instead of continuing a formal education is going to be different than a person who dropped out because they didn't feel like being in school. The latter type of person may suffer other problems related to success and life satisfaction because they lack the work ethic to persevere through at least something that requires continuous and long-term commitment, and because they lacked the skills or abilities that an alternative career path could provide, rather than simply because they didn't learn some basic algebra, chemistry, literature, foreign language, history, etc.
@Xyz Xyz Your job might not pay well but I guarantee you put those two degrees on any resume and apply to a different job, even in a completely unrelated field, and you know damn well you get noticed a thousand times faster than the guy listing their GED. The degree doesn't directly equal more money, but you're absolutely oblivious if you think it doesn't get you more opportunity.

It's like being in love doesn't change the fact that he just threw his life and just about every potential opportunity he's ever going to have to continue being a "working man" out the window to pick up some extra hours as the lowest level employee at his work. Yeah BBT tells us he makes it big but high school dropouts don't really tend to do that. Georgie is in the vast minority and just drastically altered his life, and therefore himself and his relationship at the drop of the hat. Kind of shows he didn't exactly care for her input on what's supposed to be their future together.
@Christopher Bingham If Veronica comes around but I imagine that relationship will also end in disaster. Though I'm certain she will be his first ex-wife. I say disaster because of the parallels between Veronica and Mary. Both are very religious and kind of a prude. Georgie somewhat takes after his dad but is much more of a free spirit. He might love Veronica but at the end of the day, they're both two different people I think.

Sje definitely wasn't the worst. I didn't like her at first, but she was actually into Georgie, unlike Veronica. And she took this relationship pretty seriously too.
I think they have to set up georgie for SR. death. Its mentioned in TBBT that when the father passes away, hes the one who takes over and probably has to pay the bills along with mary as I dont think the church work she does would be enough to support the family herself. Honestly Georgie right and his little girlfriend shes a child. Hes thinking adult life situations shes thinking little girl.
Parents, there are plenty reasons u can convine ur children not to drop out of high school, and kicking them out of the house is not one of them. Explain to them it is nice u can have a jobs when ur at high school, but u should finish high school incase something do not work out, like the concept of insurance. School is short and after that u can have plenty of time to do whatever u want
Strongly disagree. Someone who is making an irrational decision is not going to listen to reason. Threatening to kick them out on the street will definitely make them rethink their bad decision.
@Christopher Bingham Okay first of all it's a TV show. It's fair to say if this was real life Georgie would definitely cave in to his parents seeing as his choices are live on the streets or in comfortable home.
Aesop's "The Sun and the Wind" is fiction. In real life you deter people from making bad choices through painful consequences. The carrot or stick approach. You do good you're rewarded. You do bad you're punished. For example you're not going to use ''gentle persuasion'' to get a thug to not assault someone but you can dissuade them real quickly by letting them know they'll be shot if they do commit the assault.
As for Georgie having the skills he needs to become a successful business man and not needing a high school diploma I agree. But his parents don't know that and most people who drop out do terribly afterwards. So you can understand his parents concern. Plus his success wont be hindered by finishing high school.
@Christopher Bingham I want to address your second paragraph. Yes fables have good lessons to teach but often you learn life isn't so black and white. Sometimes you have to lie contrary to ''The Boy who Cried Wolf''. Sometimes slow and steady doesn't win the race contrary to "The Tortoise and the Hare''. You get the idea.
Also the examples you used on the effectiveness of gentle persuasion are from TV shows. Fiction. Not real life. I'm sure in some cases gentle persuasion works on empathetic individuals but it will never be as effective as the ''carrot and stick'' approach for most cases.

1:24 wish i had this clip when i was in high school but i can settle for the one i used and stole from the simpsons. "better earning than learning" the only reason i finish high school was because a good chunk of careers require a diploma or GED
3:08 I remember that moment. George tried to convince Mr. Boggs to let him pick up her daughter, but when he saw a bed inside his van, he refused.
Now, we all know that Mr. Boggs was right, but Georgie doesn't want to admit it, while Jana admits hardly.
When Mary said it was her house too, George Sr. should have snarkily reminded her of "biblical submission".
What does that mean?

This is but one example of several:
Ephesians 5:22-24
Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the savior.
Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Modern Christian Fundementalists try to weasel their way out of this by claiming that women may disagree with and oppose their husbands 'under certain circumstances', but it doesn't say so anywhere in the Bible.
That actually happened to me lol differenxe iis I'm not the Tire King of Texas
my boi from csi miami
Georgie got in trouble for quitting school
They need a show called: "All About George"
I would sure as heck watch it.
the way he just assumes he will at some point; he clearly knows him very well
I felt bad for Jana; she had dreams too!
@Christopher BinghamIt was stupid of Georgie to try and drop out of high school when he had that one last year! And that has led to Jana breaking up with him since it means they're aren't gonna get any of those titles that Jana was talking about! I hate this episode! I hope Georgie changes his mind and that he and Jana will get back together!
Exactly. Her dreams may be different but there's no reason to look down on them.
@Christopher Bingham there's nothing wrong with that she wanted. It was important to her, as Georgie's job is important to him. People have different dreams.

1:48 Sigma Georgie
Georgie is fun to watch... do what he want to do.
Sounds like she likes her 'image' more than actually being with him.
Don't drive her home: pull over, kick her out of your car ... she can walk home.
Thats unsafe and human indecency. You dont put someone’s life in danger just because they hurt your feelings
@@shelbisanders9799 you also don't break up with someone because they won't graduate with you or the be prom king to your queen.
Also, life in danger? They live in Texas, not Bosnia.
Jana 😍
I am kind of happy but also kind of sad that him and Jana aren't together anymore. Him and Jana were cute but I want him with Veronica.
Imagine being this girl now, looking at georgie, and seeing he's more successful than anyone in their school, not to mention more successful than her dad who claims he's not good enough for her. 😂
