I've had a terrible morning, to be honest, and while driving a while ago, I was looking at a pretty cloud and started missing my Dad who passed away under some terrible circumstances in September of 2017. I said outloud, "Daddy, you always asked me if I needed a hug and right now I need a hug". When I got home and sat down at my computer, this video was in the suggestions. Not only that, when I went to click the Like button, it changed from 170 to 171. 171 is the number that always shows up when I'm missing my Dad. It was the house number on the street where I lived and where my parents lived until they passed. Thank you for this. The experience has turned my bad day around and renewed my peace. I feel like I've heard from my father today and I feel like I got the hug I needed.

    When I wish to know
    What death is about
    I simply observe
    I breathe in and out
    I wake and I sleep
    I live and I die
    There's nothing to keep
    We're clouds passing by
    And here we all are
    Breathing together
    And we are all Love
    And Love lasts forever
    I want to hold on
    To faces I've known
    I value the gift
    Of what they have shown
    I think of them now
    I feel them so strong
    They breathed themselves out
    They're not really gone
    When I wish to know
    How life can begin
    I simply observe
    I breathe out and in
    I sleep and I wake
    I die and I live
    There's nothing to take
    And plenty to give

Our life is a wave in the ocean. We exist for the moment of the wave and then we crash back into the sea. We return to where we came from, to where we belong.

In Western society we're taught to fear death, but in agreeing that the inevitable is evil and bad, we push away one of our best friends and teachers. In refusing to accept death as part of the natural cycle, we remove ourselves from nature and our true power, since accepting death is key to accepting life. I'm grateful for your persistence, discipline, and courage in posting these important lessons, George! Thank you, Master Gu, for being open to broadcasting your voice and teachings.

This is how I like to think of death and how it's really a continuation of life but my family tend to think I lack empathy because I don't cry, I remember the good moments I spent with my grandparents instead and I feel like it's more useful to see death this way. I like when Master Gu said your loved ones are closer now, it's more warming and we shouldn't be saddened by death.

Sorry that your family does not understand. I heard someone speaking about bereaved parents on Brene Brown's podcast, and he said that when they lose a child, often couples end up divorcing not because of the death, but because of how they judge each other's grieving. A perfect example of that is when one parent cries more than the other, they think the one who cries less loved their child less, and they lose respect for them. Judgement about grieving is unhelpful.
I hope your family can learn to see your perspective on death.

Sadly, society at large, and often our closest ones, expect us to "perform" in certain ways in order to demonstrate that we can be counted on and trusted. It's part fear, part control, part projection. It's also very unfortunate.

My grandfather also recently passed away, a few weeks after the pandemic started, due to the virus.
I've felt many of the same things... and this mindset helped immensely. It's easy to forget how much they always lived within us, even when they were alive: their personality, ideas, essence. I never felt he had really gone, and the more I sat with it, the more it felt like he had just changed form.
Thanks for sharing George; it's nice to be reminded of our shared experience as humans.

So beautiful ❤. When my dad died it was very sudden, we were estranged sadly due to his mental health. Someone punched my dad whilst he was out and my dad fell back and hit his head, so tragic and violent for his passing, I was traumatised by this news. A week after he died, he came to me in a dream, in the dream I died and he was transforming forms, a white butterfly, a white cat and then a white bird. I followed him to a place between worlds, there he sent me the most profound feeling of love and forgiveness through his eyes into my whole being, in that moment I felt my Dad whole and healed from his mental health ills here on the planet and I knew he never left me, that he was even closer to me before, I don’t know how this translates to oneness, I felt him individual but also as an intrinsic part of the whole. I woke up weeping at the purity and beauty of it.

I recently lost my grandmother back in December after having taking care of her during her final two years of life (separate from her taking care of me throughout my childhood) and the past six months have been very difficult without her presence, but I do appreciate this, as this just resonates with me so much more than the countless number of people who have told me she's in heaven somewhere looking down at me. He is with me always, in heart and soul :) But I am happy you have such a wise and loving community around you! It is often said the universal energy, or consciousness, is what we have to tap in to, that we can know and experience life fully. I am sure your grandfather is with you now, a part of that, helping you on your path. All the best - our thoughts are with you :)

I've been a Taoist for 5 years and I continue to gain strength and serenity from it as everything my senses tell me is an example of the Tao. I too have wondered about the soul dispersal theory. That's not too bad of a possibility, but I'd prefer to explore the universe as a ghost.

Understanding that all life force is qi and that it doesn't disappear but simply mutates and disperses upon our deaths also helps one understand that all life and after life is interrelated, that we are all one, that there is no division between ourselves and our loved ones, the animal and plant world, the clouds, the moon and stars. I find this realization to be incredibly comforting. Mitakuye Oyasin, Sioux prayer meaning, "To all my relations..." Peace be unto you my friend . . .

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, and though I can't know what you are going through exactly, having lost my father to lung cancer a couple years ago, it is fresh in my mind how hard it can be losing someone close to you, and I can only imagine how much more difficult it would have been to not be able to say goodbye. We are so very lucky to live in the future where we have things like video calls and whatnot. I'm sure it would mean a lot to your grandmother for you to call her, regardless of what you talk about.

It is hard to set aside sentimentality when considering what happens at death. Someone once told me to think of how it was before I was born. That is exactly what being dead is like. Setting aside myths that glorify our sense of self gives us an opportunity to appreciate what an amazing thing our lives really are. And to contemplate what it is that we really leave behind when we die. Good or bad or indifferent all that is left when we die are some biological materials and the affect and effect of our lives upon the universe. When someone I care about dies I, as has happened several times now, I like to put on the "Hearse Song" by Harley Poe. And have a laugh, remember the good times, because life goes on and it will be my turn eventually.

Sorry to hear about your recent loss. Thank you for an excellent video and good to see Eli and Master Gu . When ever a loved one springs to mind I think of the phrase 'To live in one's heart is not to die '.
I agree it is a good feeling to remember a loved one with nature. Especially at the moment in the UK with the dawn chorus and starry nights in an abundance due to people staying at home.

My condolences George, it is always a spiritual challenge when someone we love is not around in the same physical way we were used to. But still, it's an opportunity to find out, not only in a "conceptual way" but specially in a metaphysical sense, that the most important elements of that presence are still around and even magnified. The illusion of "division" crumbles and opens the way for the true nature of the universe: eternal connection and unity among all beings. Congratulations for this great video to you and your master!

Everything is an eternal change, as said by Zhuangzi, a little change happened and he was born, another changed happened and he passed away, it's all within the Dao. My condolences!

Giving new meaning to the phrase "I feel you"..... Nice!
My heart goes out to you and your family George!
What has happened to all those people dying alone because of the lockdown is the greatest tragedy of all....
I can't imagine how hard this is on everyone, and I hope we soon figure out a better way....
I think you've found a beautiful way to cope, and i'm very much in agreement about this perspective!
    Thanks for sharing!

But in reality .. really do you REALLY FEEL THEM. .or it's just in your mind and convincing yourself??
To be honest it's depressing.. because they turned into air or soil or earth .. that's the same as DISPPEARED FOREVER.. That 100 times depressing.. not to meet their consciousness FOREVER.. because they turnned into earth or something else..

    • @MattAngiono
      @MattAngiono 7 месяцев назад

      @valcrist7428 it's all about perspective.
You choose which one you want to have.
Some people think you can know the consciousness of the universe because YOU ARE THAT.
Or you can have a materialist perspective where you never know anyone's consciousness at all.
Most people are probably in the middle somewhere.
In which case we know each other in partiality through compassion and empathy.
      You choose!

Hi, George. Not a Tai Chi person myself but I've been a Wing Chun student for awhile. I love hearing your perspective and what you've been learning-it's so similar to what I've come across as well! (Your videos are likely more clear than if I tried to articulate things myself.) Thanks for helping me see different approaches. :) Best wishes for your family during this time.

There are things we cannot prove about the nature of life and death, but these Taoist concepts do give a lot of comfort. Nice work communicating this very personal and touching message. Moving abroad from the UK myself, I practised Chi Gong and read the Laozi and Zhuangzi for the first few years I was in Taiwan. Not so much now, but I do still find this philosophy and lifestyle has real wisdom in it. Best wishes in your journey George.

" Know that which pervades the entire body is indestructible. No one is able to destroy the imperishable soul. For the soul there is never birth nor death. Nor, having once been does he ever cease to be. He is unborn, eternal, ever existing, undying and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain." Bhagavad Gita, chapter 2. Warriors who know this are fearless. Thank you for your post, I love the TAO and still practice, it also brought me to Bhagavad Gita.

Hey George, I just found your videos and am quite impressed! You are on quite the journey and making the world a better place. As you delve into the Tao and Chinese beliefs, you should look into Reiki, and channeling the Chi. It has opened my mind and being to a whole new universe, and gave the gift of using the Chi for healing myself and others. Keep up the videos!
