  • Lots of young girls get tested for adhd and are deemed "normal" because they aren't hyperactive and are well behaved in class. I believe I'm one of those girls! A lot of my anxiety stems from not accommodating my own needs and forcing myself to suffer just to be normal and hating myself for being naturally "lazy". But its amazing how much accommodating my needs fuels my creativity!

❤ I’m really glad to see you exploring this! I’m an autistic girlie who was not diagnosed until I was 29. I spent a long time researching and advocating for myself after my wife sent me a video of someone else sharing their experience in 2018, so it was a very long journey. (what a shock to have my spouse text me and say “hey, I think you have autism” just out of the blue!!) Anyway, I just wanted to say I peer reviewed you YEARS ago. Your brain is spicy like mine! I don’t think a professional diagnosis is necessary, but it does help soothe the worry that you’re fixating on another thing that isn’t the answer to why life has been harder for you. At least that was my experience! I’ve always wanted to talk to you about this but didn’t want to seem weird or overbearing. Congrats on figuring yourself out! 🎉

I relate to all of this SO much, but even now, some people are like, "Nah, I don't think you have ADHD because XYZ." I remember being on a field trip to see a play in fifth grade, and I could NOT sit still. The teacher behind me leaned forward and threatened to take me out of the theater if I couldn't sit still. I was also fairly messy when I was younger (I'm much more organized now and thrive when there's not too much visual stimulation around me), and I could not justify doing homework in lower elementary, but I understood the material well enough to get A's. Also, emotional regulation when I was younger? Nonexistent! I definitely feel like I slowly learned to mask my symptoms. Two of my close friends were diagnosed with ADHD when they were young because their symptoms were undeniably linked to ADHD.

Just a pathological people pleasing teachers pet that only got diagnosed at 24. I self diagnosed but shortly after happened to see a psychiatrist to switch antidepressants so got a formal diagnose.
