Yeah this map is something, but it did bring a memory back for me. I remember a player named "The Stunner" on this map exploiting the Thruster stun; to say that they pissed off the enemy team into hardcountering them would be an understatement.
I think honestly that's the least tryhardy playstyle, compared to mach 3 deadringer spy over there, or invincible demoknight, or ubered phlog pyromedic pair In a way, the Stunner is simply just a hard counter to these unfun strats without being too imposing of a killer to the rest of the enemy team

@@flying_luigi9088 I swear I remember something like that. But that’s probably just my imagination. If the spy was wearing a pumpkin mask or a fedora + mustache hat, it was probably me.
The most broken updates are the stun related ones. Rocket Specialist and Mad Milk/Jarate slow on hit slow you down to ridiculous levels, making movement impossible for any class. They went so far as to disable shield charges for Demoknight when stunned by those methods.
Scorch shot is the best for this. Spam fire at range, hit everyone, deal unending afterburn, and also since it's a secondary its upgrades are cheaper than primary.
This map is such a cool idea with horrendous execution - The upgrades are unbalanced as hell and makes it really easy to do BS Strategies, which I get is part of the point but its a little ridiculous. - The spawns are so easy to spawn camp since there are only 2 exits right next to the final point, and the fact the upgrade station is RIGHT NEXT to the main door is even worse since either you can get killed while getting upgrades, or worse, open the door and make it easier to spawn camp. The spawns need to have more exits and be better designed. - The map is way to choke point heavy and linear for a map with this many dumbass strats. I needed to be more open and have more routes. - This should have been King of the Hill with an extended Timer instead of 3CP. It would keep the action more towards the center and away from the spawns, so even if spawn camping happens it wouldn't be nearly as problematic as it is now. Further more, because of how much time they do give compared to how fast matches can end theoretically, spawn camping becomes even worse because players will refuse to cap and just focus on farming kills to get more money, and the enemy team can do nothing. - This is more personal preference, but for a map called freaky fair it's a really boring map that doesn't play into it's theme very well. So many other circus themed maps such as Laughter did the fair thing way better. I really want to see this concept done again, because it is really cool for an alternative game mode, but this was very much a poor first draft that needed more time in the oven.
They definitely need to make more mvm upgrade maps for next halloween. Maybe make a player destruction map that uses the collected items as money instead of automatically getting money for kills. Then make it a really high amount to win.
@@maskofthedragon youre on the channel of a youtuber who made a bunch of videos about tf2 x10 and rtd i think a lot of people would play it if it was balanced like 2% more than its current state
I'm fairly certain the actual maker had to spend a lot of time bug fixing. The idea in general is a balancing nightmare. I do remember the discussions with them in Potato discord. I don't envy them. I hate handling upgrade files.
Just the normal resistances the mode lets you buy were enough to make me go enforcer gunspy and actually out-DM scouts despite missing 80% of my shots and it *worked*, having to fight vaccinator in freaky fair would make me try to replace every gun on every other class with the enforcer because it would be better than the stickybomb launcher in the vaccinator meta
A strat I did on this map after I was done with contracts was go phlog Pyro, put a lot of points towards towards damage and a bit for scotch shot afterburn to get more meter and invest in Uber canteens. Then I'd taunt and pop a canteen and was invincible as I walked towards their spawn, meter refilled in a no time at all due to damage increased and repeat :)
Uber canteens being like 15 seconds are also insanely unbalanced. Dont know the exact duration but it's basically an auto loss for anyone because even if they cant kill you, they could walk all the way back to their spawn from basically anywhere
Some other annoying loadouts I've found: Gunslinger + frontier justice + disposable sentry - You can shut down entire areas with little to no downside. Like even if someone destroys one of them there's several others to finish them off, and you can easily replace the one that got destroyed. Bleed lucksman - Guys laugh it's bleed give me karma Uber potion phlog - self explanitory. Build phlog with the most annoying strategies and then MELT the enemy team while invincible. Pumpkin buster spawncamping - idk how bad this is in vanilla freaky fair, but in 100 player it's commonplace to die immediately after respawn because some cloak & dagger spy snuck into spawn

So, really fun fact. The game mode seems to be balanced around money and upgrades resetting after every round. Unfortunately for everyone on the map, there is a ridiculously easy way to savestate your resistances to get them back at the start of each round(and cross games) So every round, I simply opened with full resistance, full movement brassbeast heavy and dominated the server until they caught up(except they didn’t because brassbeast heavy was fucking meta in my experience) For those curious, I think the method was to buy the resistances, swap a weapon, refund the upgrades, then swap your weapon back. This is probably not quite right, but it’s been a while and I never wrote it down, but holy hell was it broken!
Legit, I am unironically happy but at the same time pissed because I didn't realize I got balanced into the end of your flames. If you're curious my friend Kasizil and I joined here unknowingly of what will be happening. 23:48
This map was some of my most fun in TF2 I literally cleared the contract in a single round as scout with fully buffed scattergun and full speed so I would rush in and fire like 18 rounds and dip out to reload. Didn't even remember to use the slowing milk I loved running around at mach 1 so much. It also ruined my session cause I felt infinitely slower on other maps. The scout muscle memory also made securing kills hard cause I'd fire off 6 rounds then instinctually back up before realizing oh I've got 12 more rounds to dump
Fun Fact: The Medic Shield does indeed do damage. 150/s in fact, meaning a Medic can just press W into the enemy and win as long as he doesn't get too close. Though Pyro counters this since flames go through shields
Did they fix the infinite health Sentry glitch yet? You know, the one where if you keep buying and un-buying the Building Health upgrade, it keeps healing the Sentry to full health, so it can't be destroyed without instantly killing it?
I'm just imagining a team of MVM high tours that know the top upgrade/weapon combos doing the spawn-camping and a couple of Delfy Engineers holding down last with infinite health sentries so they can never get back capped. A bit of coordination would make this map literally impossible for the enemy team to win.
Funnily enough, Spy is probably the most overpowered class for this accursed map. Just maxing out speed + jump height makes you actual hell to deal with since you’ll constantly be behind or above everyone. Combine that with resistances while using a kunai makes you almost unkillable while you’re zooming around.
