Russ is so talented a great guitarist, song writer, and so easy on the eyes to watch him sing ❤

Russ had a great voice and was an excellent songwriter. And suddenly he went solo, and was gone.

I would think most Americans have only been exposed to “Hold Your Head Up”, so it’s so cool to see this great band doing other songs too. Excellent musicianship @ vocals.

"Hold Your Head Up" is nothing compared to many other of their songs.

Saw The Zombies in 2002 with Rod Argent and Jim Rodford on Bass. Didn’t realize that Rodford was such an important British Bassist. Not to mention that the Fender is almost a big as him. RIP Jim.

I saw him when he was playing with the Kinks in 1981 or so. It was a fantastic time. They were a sloppy rocking band.
Of course I was smoking hash the whole time😈

Yes - quite underestimated. I used to have many copies of "International Musician" monthly magazine (sadly chucked away) and I think he had a bass column or did reviews.

First band I ever saw live: Argent. At 6 Flags over Mid America in St Louis MO. 1971. Whatta show.

Argent were my second concert. Hawkwind were first, then Argent 12th September 1975 followed by Wishbone Ash. Those were the days. Sadly Russ had moved on to his solo work etc by the time I got to see them.

Like the Zombies, Argent was over the heads of the general pop music audience.

At the time - still a Zombies fan - I was swept away by the first two Argent albums. While absolutely a forever Colin Blunstaone fan, I found Russ Ballard having the right voice too, and and he wrote fine songs for the band. And here we hear how excellent the band was, when live. Rod's keyboard's fusion with jazz and classical music was, as always, sublime.
Just found out in Wiki Discography that their first two albums didn't chart anywhere. A shame!
I'm still missing the last two albums: 'Circus' and 'Counterpoints', I'll never forgive myself...
    Get well Rod, you're only 79! 🥴

I don't care for "Three Dog Night". Argent's version of Liar was the first I ever heard. I liked it so much, that I decided to check out more from them. This is how I discovered this band back in 2007. And only 3 years later they made a brief reunion after more than 40 years.

Back in the 80s my classmate lent me a record of this band. There was no title, or maybe there was, but I couldn't find any info on them, so I thought the title was irrelevant. Anyway, I've been looking for any traces of this band for decades. This music had a huge impact on my musical taste and became a benchmark for creativity and performance skills. So glad I've finally came across this video. Thank you so much for uploading it!

Thanks to Tubular for the info on the musicians. Drummer Bob Henrit reminds me a lot and even looks a little like the very young Mike Shrieve of Santana in the early 70s.

Still have one of Bob's sticks up in the loft. Thrown to the audience after his solo in 'The Fakir'. Malvern Winter Gardens.

Three Dog Night also covered Ballard's 'Chained', which Argent also recorded.
Ballard penned several major hits by others including 'You Can Do Magic' (America), 'Since You've Been Gone' (Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow), 'So You Win Again (Hot Chocolate), 'I Don't Believe In Miracles' (Colin Blunstone), New York Groove' (Ace Frehley), 'God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You' (KISS), 'I'm Winning' (Santana) and numerous others, from Olivia Newton-John to Roger Daltry, and both female singers from ABBA. A more complete list can be found at the bottom of his Wikipedia page.

Ross Ballard of Argent at the time wrote it. 3 Dog Night’s big hits were all written by people outside the band as far as I know. It’s one of the reasons they have been snubbed by members of the music press. A shame really. I mean Elvis didn’t write any of his own stuff after all… Russ wrote a TON of cool songs covered by others.

Hay. Lol.. Where are all the cell phones? So predictions of the band… “Hold your head up.” Written after the bands trip to the future and everyone’s head was at that cellular tilt…. I gets my Sweet Mary from my dr now a days….. I never thought I would ever see it. They are micro dosing mushrooms in Colorado these days…. Who would have thought that could happen. Argent in. my top 5 ahead of their times rock bands. Thanks guys…. Oh I see Russ has his own page now😅. Here you go “ruclips.net/video/v_duZirpjpI/видео.htmlsi=LuKb02o-GpctlPbA”
